"The Defiant"

Phoenix, as young as she was, knew not what a shaman was. So his act of throwing out the name only made her question his authority he claimed he had. She was irritated- him saying she did not understand him, and yet: Wasn't he just assuming he understood her? He had no idea what she had been through, all the things she had seen. How dare he come to conclusions so quickly and think he was in any way more powerful than she was.

"Well - sir -" She said icily, though her harsh tone had slightly diminished. "I know not what a Shaman is- nor did I come looking for trouble."Phoenix explained bluntly, "But when you just assume something about me, or treat me in a way that mocks my pride and my reputation- then you better be darn sure you know who your dealing with. Cause what you just spit out of your mouth are fighting words. And I'm not about to bow down to anyone. I am no coward." She concluded, raising her head to look into his eyes. Her gaze remained unwavering.

Omen glared right into the females eyes with such a gaze, the spirits around him quivered. "So be it, if it is fighting words. But rest assure you will not harm a single hair on me." Omen said confidently, using his magic to cloak himself in so that the female wouldn't be able to touch him. Omen snorted and started to move away. "It takes a bigger Antlered Guardian to move away anyways." He said to her, uninterest in his tone. Omen's tail moved about behind him lazily, not afraid of the young female. He sat a few feet away from her and began to groom his right paw with little care if she was there, just ignoring her presence all together.

Phoenix snorted- unable to comprehend how cocky this male was. If it wasn't for something tugging at her heart, she would have lunged forwards and began a fight. She rolled her eyes as he began grooming himself, and yet she did not move or even remark to this careless behavior. Phoenix sat down herself, keeping her head held high and her eyes locked upon him. It was clear them two were never going to get along, but something kept her fixated on him. Her curiosity to understand what he was, what a shaman was pushed her to continue their strained conversation.

"Care to explain to me what a Shaman is?" She asked, trying to seem as disinterested as possible. She casually looked around her, flicking her tail some and a few other movements before glancing back in his direction.

Omen slightly smirked, his back towards the female. "And why is it that you want to know what I am?" He asked. His spirits, the ones that had the bond of being trapped, the ones closest to his heart started to stir around him. "Master, something is starting to change in you." said the one female spirit that he hated so much, the one that he personally killed. He let his thoughts formed into spiritual words that his spirits alone could see. 'I am not changing, vile female. I do not think this young one could change such a dark heart like mine.' the spirits read, digesting what their master had said. Omen looked at his paw pads and extended his claws. "So, what I am interests you?" he had a slight amused tone to his voice and waited for the young one to answer.

Phoenix looked at him curiously now that his back was turned towards her. Now all the emotions she was hiding were now clearly plastered upon her young features. "That is a silly question- any creature when in contact with something they don't understand- is curious to know exactly what they are. To understand. Have a greater knowledge then they did before."she stated, trying to keep her tone that same mellow and disinterested as it was before.

"And quite frankly," she began, "I've never encountered anyone with such a gift. I was just merely inquiring how you came to have such a power.....what it even is?" Phoenix said, feeling a tad bit vulnerable now that she was fully invested. She was determined to learn, and wasn't going to leave until she did just that. It slightly agitated her that she was now dependent upon him for information.

Omen was slightly taken aback, knowing what he heard in the females voice. She would do anything to know what a shaman was, and she would not leave him be until she knew. Omen wasn't use to Antlered Guardians like this because most of them already knew what a shaman was or was dead before they could ask. Omen slightly turned around to look at the female with questioning eyes but let it go. "A.. Gift.." he repeated slowly, knowing full well that it was a curse and not some gift. "I wouldn't call it a gift, but rather a curse." he said bluntly, speaking truth because he felt trapped, like he wasn't able to leave the path he was on, to not age, to never die. This was most certainly a curse, because if all of the other Antlered Guardians were to die out, he would be the last of his kind, and somewhere deep down, where his 'mortal' part would grow lonely and actually wants to seek companionship with another Antlered Guardian, but no one would see past his cold demeanor or to actually try to talk to him let alone try to see why he was what he was, or how it came to be.

- On the Bluegrass river border - Talking with Aiko -

Nanook paused to look at the female, one eyebrow raised as if to ask what she thought she was playing at. "I'd say your armor was protecting you," he said, stating it as a simple fact. "And that my common sense does to protect you as well, since it tells me that harming you would only cause unnecessary annoyances." He saw the questions in her eyes as he stepped onto the bank of the river that was the border between their territories. "I think you misunderstand me," he said, slowly choosing his words. "I do not hate others, I simply choose not to love. And the best way to do that is to drive others away. My....anger.... today was not out of hate for others, but for your words. And I'm one of few emotions, people simply see me as angry and hateful because those are the only emotions I permit myself to feel, and therefore the only ones they see," he said, still using an even, factual tone of voice. He flicked his tail and gazed at the river uncertainly before choosing to leap over. If Aiko thought he was silly for it, then so be it. Her opinion wasn't worth being in running water. He gathered his paws beneath him and sprung over the border, heart beating slightly faster when he landed on the other side. Stupid water, he thought as he shook himself out of it.

Salim couldn't help but feel dread in his heart. Senarios were playing through his head of what may happen to Zevran and the other commanders, his friends. You haven't been there for him, he began to think to himself. You haven't been there for anyone, only yourself. He growled lowly to hmself, slightly angry with himself. He felt as though something had happened to their leader and if something did, knowing that if he were with him it could have been something he could prevent or help him witth, he wouldn't be forgiving himself any time soon. With a sigh, Salim sat down, looking at his surroundings.Where am I..?

(( I'm sorry for missing all this action! I was in the hospital for a while and now I'm positively exhausted, so I might not be able to post for a little while longer. A good thing too - my literacy, or lack of, would cause RP-wide brainsplosions. After a good day of rest I should be back to normal. Sorry! ))

"A curse?" she repeated, as if unsure what he meant. How could having such a power be a curse? Her mind went wild, trying to figure out what he meant before he responded. But as she mulled over it, she just couldn't think of a reason. Phoenix's beaming eyes watched his face which was now partially turned towards her. Trying to read it the best she could. But what she saw there surprised the young female. He seemed in some sort of pain- weary even.

Phoenix sort of drew closer, only more curious now because of his reaction. "Why would you call it a curse? I don't see anything wrong with it. I mean, you can defend yourself. Never have to worry about losing your life....what's not to like about that?" Of course now, Phoenix didn't know the half of what a shaman actually had to deal with. Her young mind couldn't possibly comprehend what it was that made him hate being what he was. That's why she was so curious.
