Danny blinked. He took a moment to look over the girl; her oddly-fashioned dress, her strange jewelry, and the little stick she was holding. Of course, his mother would not approve. If she kept going on about these strange things that even daddy hadn't told him about, and daddy knew everything, then Danny might be afraid to be anywhere near her.
"You're a very nice lady," he concluded, for, in spite of the talk of nargals and such, she was awful nice. "But I can't stay here. I have to go back to the hotel. I don't want to leave mommy and daddy alone there." He stood up on his tip-toes and lowered his voice to a whisper. "Dick said that there are bad things there. Nasty things. But I don't think they can hurt me or mommy or daddy. Especially not mommy and daddy."
