Grace sat there for a few minutes quietly, pulling out of the parking lot and onto the road. She knew it was more of Ethan's job to explain this than hers, but it was better that Shaun knew now. And, besides, she was sure Ethan wouldn't want to discuss this at the moment anyway. "Shaun, honey, you remember Madison, right? The girl who was gonna be your stepmother?" she said. "Well, her and Ethan aren't together anymore. But it'll be alright." she explained.

Shaun nodded solemnly as his mother explained. "Yeah, I remember her." he said quietly. "She and Mr. Jayden helped save me." He replied happily, then his smile faded as he heard the rest of the story. "Oh..." He repositioned uncomfortably. "Why?" Shaun asked, casting a glance at his mom before throwing his gaze to the window. "I thought they were happy together. Is Daddy mad?" he asked quietly again. "What went wrong?"

Norman looked down at Madison and slowly nodded. He rubbing her shoulders, turned her around, and proceeded to walk out the door. "Come on, Butterfly." he whispered, "Let's go find Blake...he'll make us feel better." H replied sarcastically, but once out in the hall way, Norman stopped and let Maddy do whatever is was she needed to do to let her feelings out. Cry on his shoulder, scream, yell, anything that needed to be done. "Sh, sh, it's ok, it's ok." He said softly. "Let it out, let it out."

Grace sighed. She knew this was a lot to explain and for a young boy to process, but someone had to do it. She felt bad that he had to go through all these breakups, but she knew eventually things would get better..right? They had to, right?
"I thought so too, but.." she searched for the right words to use to explain. "But, they've moved on now. They just weren't right for each other. No, daddy isn't mad," she said, although she didn't know that for sure herself. "He'll probably forget about it as soon as he sees you! I'm sure as soon as we get back he'll be eager to do all that stuff you wanted to do with him before." she promised.

A smile lifted upon Shaun's face, and he giggled, looking back into the rearview mirror. "Ok! Let's go see Daddy! Maybe we can help him." he suggested, smiling and thinking. He began to daydream about his time when his mother and his father were still together, how they'd play. How Ethan would always take him to the park after school to play. He thought of Jason...which made him think of the rain. The rain, the never ending, never stopping down pour. "Mom, were you ever scared?" Shaun asked suddenly, still smiling, though it lessened. "When I was taken, I mean."

Grace pulled into the hospital parking lot, her smile fading immediately. "I was terrified, Shaun," she admitted, shaking her head. "It kept me up at night, how scared I was of losing you. But all that matters is that you're safe now." she said, smiling weakly.

"Yeah, it does." He said as he got out of the car. "I know Dad was scared out of his mind!" the ten year old laughed as they made their way into the hospital. "I wonder how he is..." His smile returned as he put his hand on Ethan's door room handle. He gave a gentle look up at his mom, and pushed on it slightly.

Ethan looked up as he heard the click of the door opening, and his smile returned, although it was a bit forced now. "Hey, Shaun." he greeted him, standing up and stretching. "Are you ready to go?" he asked.

Shaun ran up to his dad and hugged him. "Daddy!" He ran into his arm and wrapped around him. He giggled. "Hey, Dad, are you alright? Mom told me what happened." He tightened his grip, his arms only reached Ethan's thigh. "You're gonna be ok, right?"
