the cryptics were always so much easier to rile up, dominic thought. it was because they mostly acted on instict. they were more natural, one would say. there was an innocense to them. specially the faefolk. completely opposite of the cunning and lying humans. specially the ones that sell their souls for power- just like dom. but it was easy for the human sorcerer to pinpoint ivory's weakness. the minute he mentioned her 'kin', her entire face changed. her heartbeat picked up. dominic had hit the jackpot. faefolk were dying day by day. protecting their own kind was the most important thing to them.
watching ivory struggle was unsurprisingly very amusing to dominic. he let out a short shicker when she requested him to take off her binds. "not so fast, little butterfly," he whispered as he brought his face closer to her, irrespective of her trying to get away. then suddenly he got up from his seat and clapped his hand together. "i can't trust you yet," he continued in a non-chalant voice. "you are the head royal guard, aren't you?" he intentionally taunted her, raising a dark eyebrow and pointing an ashy finger at her. "rose fiary."
dominic knew what he wanted to do with her. this was his only chance to see how its done. how did the hags of crookback barrow steal the power from the faefolk? or was it really from the faefolk? could it be some other cryptic? he had so many questions and no answers. ivory could be his answer. and maybe, just maybe he would find out about what sort of atrocities the children of forest have been comitting in the dark.
no. no. dominic promised himself he wouldn't get involved trying to do the right thing. his days of being the hero were long gone. he was the harbringer of all dread now. he wasn't going to stop the children of forest. he was just going to be stronger than them. he ran a lazy hand through his unkempt hair. "tell me about yourself." he turned to ivory and spoke. if he was going to experiment on her, he was going to do it right. "tell me everything. and maybe i'll loosen your binds, miss angry birdie."

Ivory grit her teeth. There was very little she could do whilst bound like this. She was still weak. There was absolutely no chance of her fighting back in this moment. Especially now knowing he’d threatened her own folk. “You’re wiser than your peers.” She retorted back after he casted doubt upon her trust. He had all reason to. After all, he was the human who’d been able to handle all this magic. Maybe she could benefit from this as well. She could learn his weaknesses.
But for now, she has to listen to this demon’s commands. All he was missing were horns and a tail. “It would be much easier to show you.. However, I’ll do what I can. Let us begin in birth.” Her red eyes looked up to his own, as nothing but pure resentment laid behind her glare. “Rose fairies are born only once every 115 years. Every fairy’s look depends on what their flower looked like. Mine was white. All color was just in the tips. However, I had the most thorns.” Ivory looked to the ground as she flexed the thorns on her body. She knew there would surely be repercussions should she hide this fact. “I’m the only of this kind.”
“Our magic comes from our wings. This is the same for every fairy. Regardless their type. If you rip the wings from them, not only would they lose their magic, they’d-” It killed her to tell him these things. She knew this was nothing but fodder in ways to kill. She had to. For even the chance she could keep this creature from the forest. “die. It’s not instant either. We fade. It takes approximately 6 minutes for the death to finally occur.”
Ivory’s form shifted just slightly, leaning back to show her stomach more prominently. “That gem there acts as the place our magic forms. Magic forms in the wings, yet presents from this. No other specie of fae have this. Just rose fairies.” Her head raised then, taking a deep and painful breath. “what else is there you wish to extort from me, beast?” Ivory’s nose wrinkled up in disgust. Not only at him, but to herself. At how quick she folded. Like he had said, she was the highest guard for the royals. She was just now telling their biggest villain their secrets.

icy blue eyes scanned the small stature of the fae woman in front of him, his dark circles more evident as he narrowed his eyes at her, listening with intent to every word she spoke. a decent portion of the information that he got, he already knew. the fact that rose fairies are born every 115 years and their appearance are somewhat related to what their flower looked it. dominic remembered reading them in the books of the shady and dark library in the smallest corner of crookback barrow, owned by a vampire who was exiled from his clan. that place had books that people would murder to get their hands on. but if only they knew. but the thing about the thorns, that wasn't in the books.
dom's intentions honestly weren't rude when he was staring too hard at her thorns but he surely didn't try to be subtle. "they... look badass." he said, his lips suddenly splitting into a huge grin. he remembered her thorns flexing and stabbing him multiple times when she fought back during the ambush. he thought it was cool back then, too. dominic didn't know why he was feeling this sudden urge of admiration, but he knew it wouldn't last long. you see, he wasn't adverse to a lady's charm, no matter how much they hated him. but he knew it was just a fleeting emotion. just another one of those short release of dopamine when dom sees a beautiful witch cast a spell. and there were a lot of those around in the barrow.
but what caught his attention the most was that the very crucial detail she shared about the powers of the fairy. he had read about magic coming from fairy wings but never had anyone to confirm it because the children of the forest always misled them with it came to information. they said the wings were only necessary to kill the fairy. nothing about their powers. he started pacing the room, thrill bubbling inside him. "so, is it possible to manifest this power?" he asked like a curious little kid. "can.. can it be transferred?" he asked. he looked at the beautiful gem gracing her stomach. it almost felt like he was in a trance. he wanted to touch it. but before he could hear her full answer, a small orb sitting on the table of the small chamber started to rise up.
the orb flew towards them, glowing. a thick voice boomed from it. it was an enchanted communication orb. dominic hated these things because really, he was more or less a solitar person. the less contact with other living beings, the better. the voice was very familiar to dom and he groaned when he heard it. "dominic thornton. i need to see you. now. open the door."

Ivory was thrown completely off by his small comment on her thorns. To the other fae- they were the most distressing body modification anybody could have. Much like when she was a child. They abandoned her only because of those thorns. Yet this demon admired how they looked? The fairy’s wings fluttered a bit- which made her flinch and hunch forward instead. These damn restraints.. Ivory shut her eyes tight, so he wouldn’t see her in pain. Show your enemy no weakness.
Her eyes opened only once he asked the questions for clarification. Has they not known of her wings? She supposed she may have given him too much leeway in his knowledge. It was common to her, but may not be common to the humans. Maybe she could learn a little more on them during this time. She watched the man pace side to side in his room, certainly reveling in this new information.
“… Yes. You can manife-“ The fairy was cut off by the orb suddenly ushering itself forward. In a short lived moment of panic, Ivory tried to move away from the sphere having forgotten her binds. She fell back into the bed, shoulder first, then rolled off. The fairy hit the ground with a grunt, before she took this opportunity to roll herself beneath the bed. Every movement made the binds dig deeper to her skin- this she knew. But who knows what this other human had planned? She could at least buy herself time against the demon. He wanted knowledge before power. Wise, but troubling for the fairy.
Ivory stayed watching though, hiding beneath the bed. Her eyes were plastered to anything ahead of herself. “Don’t keep the humans waiting. Your kind are impatient.” She spoke up, words soaked and dripping with hate. That was the perfect word. She hated them. Hated humans. Hated The demon in her sights.
