He frowned at the name Cherryclan and found that his mind went blank. ''I'm old, but I've not heard of Cherryclan..or Honeystar.'' Sagestar admitted, curling his brush-like tail around his paws. The pale grey tom sympathized with him and cast his eyes around the place; there was nobody else for a long while and if Minkstar was truthful, than it certainly was a heart-breaking story. ''I'm Sagestar, former leader of Tumbleclan.''

And how Tumbleclan had truly tumbled from grace, Sagestar thought. ''Have you ever heard of Tumbleclan?''

Minkstar shook his head. "I'm afraid not. I've been in Starclan for more seasons than I can remember, and only recently started taking interest in the living world again." Only when Honeystar, then Honey the Curious, had come to the Moonpool to receive Starclan's blessing had he realized that his family had survived and had decided to take an interest in the clans once more. "Is Tumbleclan still around?" Minkstar asked. He could already guess that the answer was no, from the way that Sagestar had phrased his question, but he still wanted to sate his curiosity. It had been such a long time since he'd had an actual conversation, with the exception of Forestclan's cats.

''I wish.'' He sighed, dreaming of some alternate universe where Swanstar had never joined Tumbleclan and Greynose had succeeded him as a leader. Maybe then Tumbleclan would still be alive, maybe Rippedear and Mudwhisker needn't have died and Foxclaw heartbroken by the loss of her mate; or maybe if he'd been wiser, Sagestar would've appointed either Addercloud or Mudwhisker as leader, and they'd have lead Tumbleclan into a life of prosperity and peace. Either way good things would've been in store for Tumbleclan had Sagestar had the luck or the wisdom.


He glanced down at the moors and watched as two toms cooed on the roof. ''That's Moorclan.'' Sagestar informed, turning to Minkstar. ''My second chance at a clan, so far it's doing...okay.'' The grey tom didn't wish to jeopardize Fritillarystar's clan by letting the entire of Starclan know just how poorly they were doing. ''I do hope Honeystar's clan is doing well, is it?''

xxxthe leader walked in the foggy forests of starclan, his blue gaze admiring the sky. he had been here for quite a while, longer than the others, but he couldn't get enough of the starts above. he heard the pawsteps of a cat, and turned towards the sound. "who's there?" he called. [open!]

xxxsagepaw wandered around in the fog. he couldn't help but think of littlestep. the black she-cat that had killed him had been sent to the dark forest, and was surely looking for an exit. he had been so deep in thought that he hadn't noticed the cat in front of him and bumped into them. "oh! sorry! are you alright?" [open!]

Unbeknownst to Minkstar, Dawnstorm and Grayfur had headed out to take a walk separately and see how much of Starclan they could map. Dawnstorm was just nearing the end of what he remembered as Forestclan territory when he heard someone calling. The warrior remained silent, though, until he could see the outline of another Starclan tom.

"Hello," said Dawnstorm respectfully as he neared. The other was a gray tom with teal eyes, an unusual sight. "My name is Dawnstorm of Forestclan. And what's your name?"

Grayfur bounded through the forest, enjoying her new youthfulness and restoration of her sight. While being blind hadn't hindered her life with Forestclan much, it was such a novelty to see her clanmates instead of just scenting them. Fleckstorm's kits had been just as adorable as the queen had professed them to be, while Snowfoot's kits had grown much. She still remembered them when they were nothing more than blind and deaf infants that smelled of milk and their mother's fur. But their expressions when they had seen their father, Dawnstorm... Grayfur wondered what she had looked like to them.

Grayfur stumbled slightly as a smaller weight tumbled into her. She turned around and hissed, fur raised and fangs showing, before she saw the tiny ginger tom. He looked so small and innocent that she instantly deflated and even smiled when he apologized. "No worries, littl'un," she chuckled. "You didn't do me any harm. Are you alright? And what's your name? I'm Grayfur, elder of Forestclan."

Minkstar nodded in sympathy. Having your clan disband was perhaps the worst thing that could happen to a clan leader, as it meant they had failed in their quest. He followed Sagestar's glance and could faintly see the outline of a red barn with two blobs that must have been cats on the top. Moorclan. It sounded similar to the Windclan of legend although he had no way of confirming it.

"Forestclan is doing well, yes," Minkstar acknowledged. "There was an...incident regarding Leafclan some seasons back and I hope that it will never amount to anything." He frowned. "But I do wonder where those badgers came from." He was referring to, of course, the badgers that had killed Dawnstorm and Grayfur. It had seemed too similar to the attack on Caveclan and he had wondered if the two were connected. But Forestclan had never reported scenting Leafclan in their territory, and so the investigation had come to nothing.

''A sett probably; you should tell them to block it somehow.'' Sagestar replied, oblivious to the troubled tone of his voice. The pale grey tom flicked his ears thoughtfully and watched the two toms vanish into the house before turning back to the thoughtful Minkstar. ''I pray for your clan that it doesn't; rivalries between two clans are truly something terrible.'' He sighed, laying down. ''I remember having my fair share of rivalries; Tumbleclan was never defeated.''

xxxthe tom examined the cat who was walking out of the shadows of the foggy forest. they were a ginger tabby, almost like a paler version of foxstar. "stonestar of brookclan, now known as mapleclan. heard of them?" he asked, curling his tail around his paws.

xxxsagepaw flinched as the cat hissed, but relaxed when the old molly smiled at him. forestclan? that sounded a bit familiar. "sagepaw of mapleclan. what's this forestclan? i think i've heard that name before. my clan is still pretty new, so we don't know a lot of clans."

Dawnstorm shook his head. "Sorry," he said. "Must have been before Forestclan's time." He paused for a moment to sit down and curl his tail around his paws. "What happened to Brookclan?" he asked.

Grayfur sat down and flicked her tail as a gesture for Sagepaw to join her. "Forestclan isn't the oldest clan out there, but we've had several litters of kits and the some of the cats have been in the clan for more than twenty moons," she said. "Forestclan borders Mapleclan, Flameclan, Caveclan, and Verglasclan. And obviously, it's a forest territory." She gave a wry smile. "That's why Honeystar named the clan the way she did. Where is Mapleclan and how old is it?" she queried.

Minkstar nodded absently. While the Forestclanners had thought that a set was the most likely possibility, some thought it odd how the animals had managed to find the camp in the first case. His eyes slid back onto Sagestar's as the other leader spoke about rivalries and he gave a bitter smile. Tumbleclan may not have been defeated by another clan, but something had clearly toppled it. Perhaps something--or someone--from the inside had caused its fall. No matter, as the topic was likely to make Sagestar upset.

"How long would you say that you've been in Starclan?" asked Minkstar. "I've never seen a cat from a different clan before, even though I must have traveled most of the territories here."

xxxstonestar's eyes darkened as he thought of the catastrophe that wiped out his entire clan and left foxstar as it's only survivor. "it was in new-leaf. it had snowed a lot, so when all of it melted, the brook overflowed. we didn't see the wave coming. it swallowed every single cat in camp. only foxwhisker survived, as he'd gone on a morning hunt by himself. he's now the leader of mapleclan." it was hard to think about all the lives lost that day, as many of them got lost in the afterlife and didn't find their way to starclan. luckily for him, his mate, sandheart, had greeted him with a smile in starclan.

xxxsagepaw perked up as grayfur mentioned forestclan's borders. "oh! you're the clan we border with but only seen once or twice from afar! that explains it. mapleclan is at your northern border, and it's only seen two litters so far. we've unfortunately seen a few deaths too." sagepaw winced as he mentioned the murders of his clan-mates. littlestep was devil, she deserved being in the dark forest.
