"hmm..so bromeliads work well with ferns and mosses, because of their love for humidity,"
Proxy was taking notes on the nearby foliage when he heard footsteps in the distance. His ears swiveled towards the source of sound, and by instinct he dove for protection into some bushes.

By a glimpse, he could see that one of the strangers was clearly a kalon he would not want to mess with. The other was...a tiny pup? Proxy didn't have much experience around young kalons, or kalons in general. Neither of them seemed very happy with each other.

Proxy's tail swayed nervously. He hadn't had social interaction in a while, but it would look quite silly if they saw him hiding in the foliage. He decided to keep low. If they're lost, I'll go and help them out, he told himself.

Scribbles sprang upright from the fall, brushing off the offering paw, "N-no." He replied, and for the first time the indignation was softer in his voice. But never the less it was clear from the pup's expression that he had no intent in waiting long enough for the embarrassment to settle in.

Though before he could dart off, something else caught his attention. The ground was beginning to shake with uneasiness, as a lumbering figure rustled the foliage not far off from Sebastian, Percy and Proxy. As a matter of fact, if the pup in front kept moving forward he'd run right into..

"Bother." Scribbles muttered, looking to Sahara with a surprisingly nonchalant expression. "There's a bear over there."

Regardless of Scribbles "warning", no-kalon needed it. The bear had already woken up from his nap and was grunting and groaning, trying to find the culprits not far off.

Sebastian's ears flickered forward at first towards the rustle of a bush and the smell of another Kalon, then to the rustle of the underbrush and a harsh groan. The long fur on his back fluffing up a bit more making him seem even larger, he growled in warning, his claws kneeing at the dirt below his paws. "Stay behind me kid," he told the pup as his tail lashed back and forth before he turned his head to the bush hiding the Kalon. "And I suspect you can protect yourself if I am correct," he stated towards the Kalon in a deadpan manner.

Percy heard it too. The groan of the bear as it woke up. He paid no attention to it, continuing down the road and staying far from its den. He had nothing to fear. The trees are just trees. The leaves are just leaves. Even so, he felt a nagging fear deep in his stomach. What if he couldn't find his family again? He would, since his father, Castor, stood out like an orange in a pile of apples. Or would it be an apple in a pile of oranges? He didn't care. Percy looked back before deciding he should stay with the small group of kalons. The forest was dangerous when you ventured alone. He made a run for it and tumbled into the bushes just near the kalons.

The bear lumbered clumsily in the open, his ear twitching to the sound of the scampering paws of the pup. He breathed gruffly, irritated at the sight of intruders on his territory as he began groaning more loudly in frustration.

The grizzly was large, and seemed overgrown for the small woodland. Perhaps he had escaped from a circus at some point, or perhaps he was old and gave up on traveling to his destination, but regardless his intentions were clear as rain now.

And it was to chase off these troublemakers off his territory.

The bear came off to a rumbling start, gaining speed as he hurled towards the Kalons.

Meanwhile Scribbles watched the commotion from afar, reluctant to move from his spot. Being upwind he wouldn't be able to tell if the bear was coming towards him should he turn around and head off--so he held his ground silently.

Sebastian growled and lowered his head, baring his teeth, he wasn't one to back down from a fight and actually enjoyed them. He watched as the bear charged towards them, Seb readying himself for anything although he already knew the bear was after the small group.

Sahara heard the loud growls of the bear and the fur on his back stood up, he shook a little. A bear? What's a bear doing here? His monotone face was now wide eyed, then he remembered the younger kalon who rejected his help. "Hurry, I need to get you somewhere safe." He tapped his paw. "I'll go back to help the others once you're safe. Do you trust me?" An eyebrow was raised.

Proxy jolted in surprise at the new intruder. How did he not notice that bear earlier? Too many things were happening at once.

The red kalon was holding steady with the bear's charge, and the pup suddenly bolted for the company of--Proxy squinted his eyes--two more kalons? Just how many kalons were here exactly?

He tried to recall in his jumbled brain what the tough-looking kalon said. "I suspect you can protect yourself"
Proxy certainly could--if "protecting yourself" meant "running as fast as possible"...

Proxy glanced back over at the red kalon, who was snapping back at the bear and bristling his fur. He looked more than capable of taking down the bear with a single paw. Proxy couldn't tell how old the red one was, but perhaps they were the same age as him? He didn't want to look like a coward, but...

His brain made the most logical decision for him. Gritting both his teeth and dignity, Proxy followed after the pup down the road to the other group of kalons. The bear wouldn't come this far, would it?

The bear gruffed aggressively, stopping just within a paws length of Sebastian's readying stance. He let small raspy roars out, coming up to a looming stand on his hind legs--as his dark eyes searched for the Kalons fear.

But there was nothing to be found. If it was a fight for his territory then a fight he would hold. The grizzly let out a bellow, before diving in with his shoulder to attempt to take Sebastian off his feet.

Scribbles once more raised a critical eyebrow, letting a still pause linger in the air for a moment as he weighed his options. As much as his pride pushed him towards another refusal--it would be foolish to reject an offer that might get him out of the fire.

"Just this once." The pup replied with a soft groan. He squinted his eyes, watching as the bear grew more furious. Scribbles muttered something about "stupid as he looks" underneath his breath, wondering what kind of plan Sahara, and Sebastian for that matter had in mind.

There was a rustle in the leaves overhead as two bodies sat on a branch, watching the scene unfold below. "What's happening? I hear a bear and some other Kalons... is everyone alright?" Hazy periwinkle eyes darted around the area, and he shifted on the branch uncomfortably. He knew something was going on, but didn't want to get involved unless it came to it. It wasn't the bear that made him uneasy... it was the crowd below with it. He loved talking to others, but the crowds sometimes made him anxious because he had been so used to living semi-alone in his kingdom.
"Can you tell how many Kalons there are?" Egbert asked him.
"No, it's mixed in with bear smell".

Egbert

The blue Kalon looked to his friend.
"I can't tell, at first it seemed like a stand-still but now it looks like the bear is just trying to intimidate everyone". He tried to keep balance as Roman shook the branch with his moving. "Hey! Careful, you'll knock me off..." he stared at the group below. If he knew what was going on, he would just swoop right in and be a hero, but he knew that if he did he would probably be mutilated and used as the bear's chew toy, so he thought it best to stay with his friend. "Can you tell how many other Kalons there are?"
Roman replied but Egbert himself was too distracted trying to figure out the answer.
