Mani watched as the wolf said nothing, only shielding himself with his wings and snarling. "Cat got your tongue now?" She asked, slightly taunting. She flicked her tail silently as she waited for a moment before speaking again. "And I'm not scared of you, so don't bother snarling because I can do the same, and I certainly wouldn't be the one running." She scowled, shaking her head. "Now, maybe if you spoke words instead of sounds, then I'd worry a tiny bit." She stared straight at the strange wolf, her gaze held little to no emotion as she spoke.

There was no doubt that he was cornered. Castor eventually quieted, then racked his brain, trying to piece together a string of words to fend himself off. There was also no doubt that the wolf in front of him wouldn't bother with him much. As though there were few words he could think of, Castor found none fitting to say. He ran through his choices in less than seconds, and knew that the strange wolf wanted no introduction. Therefore, he decided to ask for one. "Who are you?" he forced out of his throat, his voice gravelly. He made no hint of anger; he was mildly curious, though all he wanted was to get away.

Mani watched the wolf as he seemed, at first, not able to come up with anything to say, before he finally spoke, asking who she was. She considered her choices - she could tell him her name, which would be the nicer option, or she could snap at him and tell him it wasn't any of his business. Or she could stay silent and ask him the same question. Luckily, she was in a good mood today, so she went with the first option. "The name's Mani." She said simply, not taking her gaze away from the strange wolf - now it was her turn. "And who are you?" She asked - it would only be fair for him to say, since she had told him who she was, her name. At least he had stopped with his snarling.

The winged wolf looked at her for a moment, then looked away. "Castor," he murmured. His own name sounded strange when he said it; he had always introduced himself as Ren, after all. "Castor Renegade." He didn't know what else to say to Mani. He took a quick view of her, sizing her up before thinking. What was he to say now? He wanted to apologize for his poor vocabulary, but he couldn't quite word it well. Either way, he spoke, trying to convey the thoughts in his mind. "I-I am sorry, I..." he paused. "I do not talk much." He wondered if he had done it right. Only a few short sentences, and his mouth already felt dry. All he remembered was a few short phrases, and of course the incantation to his spell, but that didn't matter now. Mani probably thought of him as strange by now, though that would be no surprise.

Castor? What a strange name...although I suppose it suits him, he is strange himself. Mani thought to herself, listening to him as she spoke. She waited until he was finished, before giving a flick of her ears. "You don't talk much?" She asked, then a idea popped into her head. "You must live in that forest, then." She said, motioning to where it was. "It seems likely, since I've never seen you around the city before." Who'd want to live in the forest anyway?

[hypnowave]

Although he only knew half of the words Mani had used, the rest of what she mentioned, along with her gesture to the forest, was enough for Castor to comprehend. He nodded. For a moment, he let go of his left arm, but it stung, so he held on again. He knew a number of herbs that could help heal him, but he would have to leave Mani to do so; strangely, he was reluctant to leave so soon after meeting her. He let his wings lower slowly, until they were eventually tucked in against his sides.

His nod was enough to let her know his answer, and she said nothing for a moment, thinking. "That'd explain why you don't like to talk, or you just don't know too many words." She said, mostly to herself, and the wolf waiting a moment before she spoke again. "You know, you should probably get that arm of yours fixed, it doesn't look in good condition." She pointed out. "Falling from the sky isn't the best experience." She's know that - having 'fallen from the sky' herself once before.

At Mani's first few words, Castor looked down, part ashamed that he'd left so many things behind; including daily language. At her second statement, however, he stated at her blankly before he grasped the loose meaning of her sentence. He knew he could mend his arm on his own, but there was no saying no to extra help... unless it was in the city. Then he would hesitate, even a little. Only then did he realize how weary the fall had left him. Even his wings felt a little strained, and his breathing was somewhat ragged. He nodded again, albeit feeling rather confused; despite having known the language she spoke in, it sounded foreign and odd.

[ I take it 'falling from the sky' will be a recurring joke here? cx ]

Mani blinked her eyes, Castor seemed...confused. He probably has no idea what I'm saying. She sighed, her ears flattening slightly before looking at him...why was he just standing there?! She glanced both ways on the road, before she walked across, towards him - anyway, it seemed pretty stupid for them to be talking if they were on opposite sides of the road. She didn't go too close once she had reached the other side, she still kept a bit of distance so it wasn't uncomfortable. "You should probably come into the city and get that arm of yours treated."

Castor was a little surprised as Mani walked across the road towards him like it was nothing, but he still kept quiet until she stood closer to him. As she spoke again, he caught the full meaning of what she was trying to tell him; in short, he didn't like what she wanted him to do. He looked back at his safe refuge, the forest, then turned to Mani. He was a little hesitant, but he didn't want to show his doubt to her. "Very well," he said, eyes narrowed. It wasn't that he didn't trust her, it was.. well, he didn't trust her. Or anyone. But he didn't have much choice, did he? He looked at her, expecting her to lead him, as he was at best clueless.
