She bit him again and slipped out of his reach, her lithe body making it much easier than he'd most likely intended.

"Asassins?" she scoffed. "As if. My father owns this island and has sixty four war veterans as tough as tooth and nail guarding the bridge. Before anyone can enter they are asked a specified question to make sure that they are actually who they claim to be and everyone on the island or in the palace is always carrying a slip of paper that verifies who they are. If they do not have that, they cannot pass, even if they answer the question correctly. Assassins would be wonderful. Some excitement for once. Not like the guards wouldn't defeat them within a moment." She looked out the window at the guards.

"They are all still there, time man, so let go of me. If you ruin my hair or dress or makeup I will kill you." The glare she sent him was probably enough anyways. Ruffling up the hem of her dress and fluffing her hair and walked out the door, then turned back, an expression of amusement on her face. "And thank you. That was the most fun I'd had in ages, and my father will most certainly not be pleased! I am late!" she shouted gleefully. It almost sounded like she was happy to make her father so miserable. She let out a whoop, which she was certain was not allowed, and then ran off as best she could, dirtying her dress with sand.

"Oh," she screamed back, "and I wouldn't trust you for the world!" She ran into the distance, humming as she went along. She neared the carriage and got in daintily, dusting off her dress with care. She rolled her shoulders back and sat up straighter. The carriage began to thump along at a gentle pace.

Vᴀʟʟᴇɴ {
        Though he knew that he was stronger than her, Vallen had not counted on how fast the girl he held was. When she sunk her teeth into his hand again he released her for a second, failing to slip the watch's chain over her head. She was gone like a flash, and before he knew it she was climbing into a carriage.

        Vallen couldn't remain frozen, or he would lose her. Time in the present was ticking away, and he needed to get back without damaging the flow of time. The longer he stayed in the past, the later he would have to return to the present. Gone too long, people would start to get suspicious. Master Isaias would know exactly what he had done, perhaps even find the "Mister Night" who was willing to pay for the slippery princess Vallen was after. Knowing he couldn't allow her to get away, Vallen began to run.

        The beautiful carriage trundled down the road, moving faster than someone walking, but the gentle pace allowed Vallen to catch up after a few moments. Off to the side of the road and a little behind, he hoped he was out of sight. He was a little out of breath as he kept pace, bouncing along as he tried to come up with a plan. There was no way that he could get closer without someone seeing him, so he decided that he would have to continue to follow her, and then catch her again when the carriage stopped. Though he had been foiled once, Vallen remained confident in his ability to catch Chiharu. The sacrifice would be worth it.

            Chiharu let out a deep breath as she turned to three ladies of the court of Austria. Smiling courteously, she nodded slightly towards them. "Lady Brethrem--it is always a pleasure to see your face. And you, Lady Kethren. And you, Lady Silvren. I understand, Lady Silvren, that you have recently been advanced in your salary? Such news always brings me great joy, of course, that the kindest Ladies in the country have received a raise." By now Chiharu felt superficial, which she was. She didn't care a bit about whether they were becoming steadily richer or not, only that she had a positive impression upon them. "Oh! And Lady Brethrem, that dress is gorgeous. May I ask who your tailor is? I must subscribe immediately to his business."

            Lady Silvren was the first to reply. In a haughty, rich voice, she replied, "Yes. I have recently gained more money than ever. It is fantastic--not only do I have more money, I pay my servants and other help less!" The foursome all shared a rather forced laughter. This was all small talk. They'd move to bigger fish soon, that much Chiharu knew. "That does remind me, Chiharu," said Silvren with a greedy gleam in her green eyes, "that they are saying your marriage to the Prince is to be reported everywhere! How interesting, yes? After all, I myself am twenty and I have not yet been married, but if I did get married, I would be careful about...everything, naturally." Now the gleam in Silvren's eyes was harsh and cold, and Chiharu understood what Silvren's message was.

            "Naturally," said Chiharu coolly. "For should it be told of everywhere, rumors and gossip spread very quickly--at a remarkable rate, really. It is fascinating how quickly the peasantries and common ones should spread false tales--one awful one I heard recently, Lady Kethren, about a balding spot on the top of your head. Not to say I believe it, but the peasants and common people are often very honest, don't you think, Lady Kethren? Remarkable, remarkable. Even some royals should not care if a lie were told." Lady Kethren instantly drew her hand to touch the top of her head, and Chiharu smirked. So it was true. She would inform her governess, who had promised a free period when she would normally have lessons if she could tell her. Clearly Governess Evangeline had thought she couldn't slip the truth out of Kethren. "Good day to all of you lovely Ladies, and I should hope we meet again before long."

            She was escorted by a servant, of course, but the servant, she knew, could care less about being here. She frowned slightly. It was really, really cold out here. At least she wasn't in Austria yet. She was convinced Austria would be horrid.
