Ruelle's eyes swept across the unfamiliar landscape, her pelt prickling uneasily. The rocky outcropping extended in the distance until a snow-capped mountain rose from it. There seemed to be nowhere suitable for a pack of wolves to live. "Careful about the stones, don't twist your paws!" she called over her shoulder.

Averill dipped his head politely to Kyiera as she passed him, moving to the back of the pack. Despite the panic from the fire, he was starting to feel slightly hungry; hopefully they would stop for a rest and a spot of hunting later on. "Chaser!" He turned in surprise when the older brute appeared at his side, catching on to his dark expression immediately.

Kris growled, his ears flicking in amusement as Chaser hurried away. He grew quiet when Kyiera neared the back iof the pack though, flattening his ears in a semblance of respect. The alpha both angered and scared him, something he didn't like at all.

Kyiera
{ alpha } { fae } { 4 years } { the calm }
Kyiera acknowledged both Averill's and Kris shows of respect with a discreet bow of her own head before taking her place at the rear. She could still hear the loud cackling of the flames as they ate up the twigs, and the scent of burning wood was still too strong for her taste - they needed to get away as soon as possible if they wanted to stay clear of the forest fire's path.
Randir
{ hunter } { brute } { 5.5 years } { the cautious }
For a moment, all was still, but then the wind suddenly blew harder. Randir flattened his ears and growled - because thewind had grown stronger, there was no doubt that the flames would increase in size as well. "Ruelle, the wind!" he barked.
Chaser
{ fighter } { brute } { 8 years } { the sarcastic }
"Still as jittery as a newborn, I see," Chase commented upon seeing Averill's reaction to his sudden appearance. He had just begun to accept the fact that they were moving before he heard one of the hunters up front make some comment about the wind. It was then that he looked back and noticed that the blaze was gaining on them.

Ruelle turned at Randir's call, understanding his warning the moment a blast of heat was blown into her face. "Pick up the pace!" she growled, worry making her voice taut. "It's all rocks down there, hopefully the fire won't find anything to burn." She forced herself into a quick, ground-eating trot that she could maintain for a good few hours, her ears swivelling back and forth nervously.

Averill headbutted Chaser's shoulder playfully as a retort to his statement. Before he could say more, though, the wind picked up, forcing the pack to increase their pace too. The brute fell silent, his ears flattening against his head as he kept his narrowed eyes fixed on the ground before him.

Kris lengthened his stride to keep up with the pack, the heat on his tail making him edgy. He caught up to the wolves near the front of the pack, finding himself near Randir and Lyall. He hoped the beta wasn't going to kill them all with this stupid running; he could use a drink of water right about now.

Kyiera
{ alpha } { fae } { 4 years } { the calm }
Kyiera had heard the shouts of her beta and one of her fighters, even through all the other noises. She could feel the heat naturally barbecueing her rump, and she didn't appreciate it, at all. Charred wolf meat didn't smell appetizing at all. Once or twice, she nearly slipped due to the increased speed, but she regained her footing each time and very soon, she felt a cooler wind rush over them.
Randir
{ hunter } { brute } { 5.5 years } { the cautious }
"Hurry up, Mirri!" Randir told the younger fae beside him - out of all the wolves there, he didn't want his potential mate to die. But truth be told, he was way too paranoid - they were right at Ruelle's tail, far far away from the blaze. His eyes narrowed as he kept an eye on the path for any slippery surfaces.
Chaser
{ fighter } { brute } { 8 years } { the sarcastic }
He and Averill were now just in front of their alpha, but at the speed at which they were travelling, he was tiring out pretty fast.
"Stay strong, Chaser," he heard Kyiera murmur behind him - apparently, she had seen his dwindling endurance - the brute wasn't made for speed after all, and keeping up high paces for long periods of time tired him out faster than if he were fighting against the alpha of another pack.
He acknowledged her with a grunt - since he had fallen behind, so had she - and if he wanted to make sure that they still had an alpha after this, he had to catch up to Averill at the very least.

Ruelle wasn't sure if she should pick up the pace. On the one hand, she was going at a good speed right now, but on the other, she could feel her packmates' hot breathing right on her tail, and it wasn't a pleasant sensation at all. Drifting to the right, she angled for the towering mountain in the distance, wondering if the pack would reach it by evening. They were lucky it wasn't breeding season, with pups and pregnant faes underfoot.

Averill's ear twitched slightly when Randir called Mirri's name, grateful that someone other than him was caring for his sister. He cast an unsuspecting eye at his packmate, but stumbled and concentrated on running again. He figured they were pretty much safe from the flames now; Ruelle should really let them take a breather before they left Chaser and Kyiera behind. He fell back a little, calling encouragingly. "Come on, Chaser, you're not that old!"

Kris snorted, hearing Kyiera and Averill speak to Chaser. Did they not live in the forest? Did they not know survival of the fittest? Chaser was an old dog past his prime; if it was his time, it was time. Although Kris had to admit, the last way he wanted to die was by burning. He shuddered at the thought, his eyes flashing.

Kyiera
{ alpha } { fae } { 4 years } { the calm }
Once they were roughly out of danger, Kyiera ran to the head of the pack and began travelling alongside her beta. "We should find a place to stay the night - I don't think any of us are ready to cross the plains just yet," she said aloud, keeping her eye on the moon above.
Randir
{ hunter } { brute } { 5.5 years } { the cautious }
Randir was getting tired - he hadn't had enough rest since the hunt just a while ago, and he needed a break. But if he pack wasn't planning on stopping anytime soon, he would just have to bear with his fatigue - didn't want to appear weak in front of Mirri.
Chaser
{ fighter } { brute } { 8 years } { the sarcastic }
"Watch your mouth, pup," Chaser snarled at Averill - but it didn't have any anger behind it. In truth, he was thankful that neither his alpha nor his 'underwolf' had no plans of abandoning him - he wasn't really that old yet, it's just that he preferred to laze around nowadays and leave the tasks to the younger wolves. When he saw Kyiera move ahead of them, he wondered if she was going to call for a break.

{ beta } { fae } { 3 years } { the wary }
"Okay," Ruelle agreed, slowing immediately. "There isn't much in the way of shelter, but it'll do." Her paws were aching, and she had a few cuts on her pads from the stones. Wearily, she glanced at Kyiera. "A hunting team? I can scout for water, if there's any." She glanced around the stony landscape doubtfully.

Averill gave a low bark of amusement, his tail swishing to and fro slowly as he matched his pace to Chaser's. Ruelle had stopped and was conversing with the alpha, giving him a chance to rest his tired paws. He flopped on the ground with a tired whine, batting at Mirri with a front paw.

Kris sat down slowly, keeping a keen eye on the rest of the pack. No one was in a good mood right now, and he wasn't eager to be a victim tonight. Idly, he wondered if he could sneak off to catch a rabbit; he'd barely managed to grab a few mouthfuls of the deer the hunters had brought back.

Kyiera
{ alpha } { fae } { 4 years } { the calm }
"You're wounded," Kyiera noted, seeing how her beta seemed to be a bit shaky on her paws. "I'll do the scouting - you're in no position to run around," she added before looking at the rest of the pack. All the wolves looked tired, some more tired than most. "Mirri, come with me." She needed the fae for her sharp senses, and also because she didn't look as fatigued as the other wolves. Once the younger wolf was beside her, the two bounded off in a straight line, making sure not to wander too far away from the pack.
Randir
{ hunter } { brute } { 5.5 years } { the cautious }
Randir whined softly as he finally laid down on the ground - his paws weren't as bruised as he had thought, but they were still sore. Since Mirri had left with the alpha, he got up and padded over to Averill and Chaser before laying down again. "Wonder what's going to happen next?" he pondered aloud.
Chaser
{ fighter } { brute } { 8 years } { the sarcastic }
Chaser snorted when he heard the younger brute's offhand comment. "I'll tell you what's going to happen next - we'll have to wake up at the crack of dawn to find a new home," he answered as he flopped down next to the two younger ones and lay his head down on his paws. All he wanted to do was sleep, but until Kyiera and Mirri came back, the pack had to be on their guard.

Before Ruelle could mention that they were honestly just cuts, Kyiera and Mirri had set off. Her eyes trailed them anxiously before she turned to check on the tired wolves. "Lyall, Randir, up for a hunt later? The fighters will have to improve their hunting skills too so whoever feels up to it should come along." She looked around sharply, meeting each of the members' eyes in turn.

Averill laid his head on his paws miserably, hoping to get as much rest as possible before the hunting trip. He had no doubt he'd be expected to go. "Don't know why you like hunting so much," he muttered to Randir, who was next to him. "I just don't have the patience to wait the prey out."

Kris curled up with his nose tucked near his tail, but his eyes were open, staring out at the barren land. The fire didn't seem to be raging as strongly as before, but he knew it would be uninhabitable now. The smell of smoke was still strong in the air, making him sneeze uncomfortably.

Kyiera
{ alpha } { fae } { 4 years } { the calm }
Kyiera and Mirri had searched nearly the entire perimeter, but there was no water - none at all. Puzzled, she gestured for the other fae to follow her before making her way back to the pack. "We might have to move as soon as everyone has rested for a while," she told Ruelle upon explaining the situation.
Mirri had wandered back to her brother and snuggled up next to him. A yawn escaped her as she laid her head down on her paws and promptly fell asleep.
Randir
{ hunter } { brute } { 5.5 years } { the cautious }
"I don't think we'll be able to find much at this time," Randir called back to their beta. He looked at Lyall for confirmation and was relieved when the other brute agreed. The sun wasn't out yet, meaning most animals would be in their burrows - all the could really do was wait. At Averill's remark, he barked out something akin to a laugh. "Well, that's pretty true - patience is one of the most required skills of a hunter, but so is speed."
Chaser
{ fighter } { brute } { 8 years } { the sarcastic }
"Yeah, but you hunters would be hopeless trying to bring a bigger animal down if it weren't for the bulkier wolves," Chaser said, referring to the fighters. It was true - at times, when their target was a bit too big for them to handle, the hunters would chase said target to the fighters and let them take down the beast themselves. Fortunately, this wasn't very often and it only happened when the caribou decided to roam through their territory.
