[ inferno ]
The world was truly falling apart.
Inferno knew this, she knew that everything was going down, that everyone was going to be terrified. It had only been two weeks since the last of the humans died, and in that short time the world seemed to be turned upside down. The dogs were either too scared to do antyhing, or too scared and wanting to fight everyone that came near them. Or at least most of them were like this, there were some that were tainted, they were twisted in their thoughts and minds and were no longer even considered to be dogs but beasts. Inferno had, had some contact with a few tainted, but that's because what her line of worked called for. Yes, that's right she had a job. Throughout this terror some dogs had decided that they would act as "guards" to dogs that paid them in food. Inferno worked for a dog named Eddie who was feared by his size and brute strength. He had dogs like her working for him, serving as his "enforcers" making sure that dogs came to them for help when they knew that the terror and horror that the tained had. She was certainly working on a mission, a dog that seemed to refuse their pay.
"Pl-please.." The dog, a small brown-grey terrier whimpered. "I don't have any food. But my brother, he was ki-killed by the tainted, I don't want to be like him!" Clearly she was scared, Inferno could easily see that. She was hunched up in the end of a dead-end alleyway, where she was pinned by Inferno and another dog, a large black lab named Mange.
"The rules are, you only get protection if you pay." Mange snarled, his head lowered and his ears flattened back on his head. "And you owe us." The little dog seemed like she was going to pass out from fear of Mange, and that almost made Inferno laugh. Mange turned to look at Inferno and his dark brown eyes seemed to glow with anger. "Inferno, why don't you show our friend here what happens when you don't pay us?"
Grinning Inferno nodded, "love to." Stepping forward she quickly snapped up a tin can which had been lying near the terrier's pawas, biting down the material cracked down underneath her teeth, and finally she threw the can against the alleyway wall. Licking her lips slightly and turned around to stand back next to Mange. The terrier now looked like she would do anything and everything she could to make sure that the demanstration never happened to her. And standing up ever so slightly with a small whine the terrier looked at the two bigger dogs.
"Tell your boss I will have something to him by nightfall, I swear it!" She pleaded, Mange growled, but Inferno shook her head at her partner and turned back to the terrier.
"Fine. Have it to us by nightfall and we can pretend that this never even happened." Inferno snorted, and walked away without another word. She could hear Mange growl at the other dog, making her whine, but finally followed Inferno out of the alleyway and out into the cold and abandoned street.
She could tell Mange was upset with her, just by the way that the dog was ignoring her viewline, Mane knew that Inferno was not someone to be messed with that he should just go along with what she said. It would be better and easier that way. "I don't think that Eddie will be too happy we let her off like that." Mange muttered, and Inferno was unsure if he was talking to her or just himself. "I mean, he's not someone that just forgives and forgets..."
Angry Inferno spun around and snapped close to his face, making him pull back in shock. "Go tell Ediie than, huh?! Tell him that Inferno let someone off like that! Just don't bother me with your whinning and muttering about how gutless you really are to be whipped under him!" She voice was loud and clear and was a defination of agression. When Mange seemed frozen in confusion and shock, she growled. "Well go, run to your master!" Quick Mange turned and ran, running towards where Eddie and the others stayed. Inferno walked down the streets angrily, the fur on her back stood up.
She wasn't anyone's puppet.

[ exodus ]
What was this all coming to?
Exodus wasn't a coward, he stood up for what he believed in and did what he knew or thought to be was right. But he didn't think that everything that was happening to was good, all the humans... dead. The world left with nothing but old memories of the humans, running cars, bright lights, everything that he never even noticed now would give him hope. The world was ripped apart and he knew that there wasn't anything that could be done to fix it. Especially with the tainted walking around, killing dogs at random just because they could. The tainted were awful creatures and Exodus had to admit that when he saw a couple of them walking down the road one night he had hid away. He felt ashamed of doing so afterwards, but it would have been rash to just run out there and try to take them all on right? Besides weren't they like ten times stronger than an average dog. He would have been slaughtered and it would have been a foolish thing for him to do. There was no honor in being dead, and he wished that others would be able to see that.
He was alone now, his friend Toby though living had run off somewhere after the tainted attacked the hideout that Exodus had been sharing with him. He had been hoping to find his small friend but after five days he was beginning to lose hope that he would ever see him again, and if he did what he would be like. From what Exodus knew no one could be turned tainted, or at least he hoped not, he would prefer to keep his own mind and to be able to think on his own. He knew that the tainted weren't able to do anything like that. All they knew was that they had to kill and they had to rid the world from everything that was living. Or well if that wasn't their goal then it sure seemed like it. They seemed like they would want nothing more than to just have the world to themselves, not that there was much left of the world anyways. There was nothing left really, just a bunch of emptiness. He knew sure that there were other dogs out there and some of them might be trying to find a way to make sure that the tainted were gone and no longer were a threat but still a world without more than just dogs seemed not full. He had been a stray since his master died a couple of years ago but still he knew that without the humans and without everything that they had there was nothing but a world filled with canines that wanted to kill each other.
Walking roughly down the street that he was on he could see from the corner of his eye some dogs fighting over what seemed to be some scrap food. There wasn't much food left and Exodus knew that you had to fight for what you could get, but still some of these dogs he thought were taking it all too far. Some dogs apparently were even offering "protection" from the tainted, yeah right like any dog would have a chance against one of the tainted. But it was probably just a lie, but a good lie, it made others think that they were actually safe. But in truth they weren't they were far from safe. Even if the tainted didn't get them who's to say that someone that's not tainted wouldn't kill you over having food or a warm place to stay? This world was filled with the survival of the fittest and those who couldn't match up to what was needed would be killed. Though in some twisted and cruel way this made sense to Exodus, he knew that somehow everyone would be trying to survive and even if that meant others had to die they wouldn't care, they just wouldn't. This sickened him, he really wished that he could do something to stop all of this, something that would make sure that everyone would get what they needed and would be safe. But no one could assure anyone of that right now because in a world as sick and dark as this...
only the strong survived.
