Rose almost started apologizing for his statements as she cleaned up his hand, before she realized he was not telling her it was bad, or that it was something that she needed to apologize for. "Uh, th-thank you," she managed to say, blushing slightly. Without really thinking when he said her name she glanced up, giving just a slight nod. "A nice name," she said softly, giving a slight nod. It wasn't until she had thought about the name, since it did sound familiar and she was wondering where she had heard it before. One simply did not forget such a name, and when it clicked, Rose wanted to bolt right back into the bathroom, her heart skipping a beat before taking off at double speed, pounding hard in her chest, choking her up. It was the person she worked for! How he had not been at least suspiscious after having veiwed the scar on her shoulder made her wonder, but then again, did he really see the people he ordered around? It made her all the more nervous though, as it was someone she was more likely to get in trouble with, recognized by.
"I really can't come back," she said quickly, giving a nervous, jerky shake of her head. "It wouldn't be wise..." Swallowing hard before she took another step back, Rose reached up and brushed her dark hair back over her shoulder once more. "I'm afraid it wouldn't be wise to tell you how to contact me either." With a dry mouth, she shook her head again, licking her lips as she stepped closer to the bathroom. "I'm sorry. Perhaps I'l be back sometime," she managed to say, but it came out as a whisper before she disappeared into the room, leaning against to the door and resting her head back against it.
"Oh Ignis, what am I ever to do?" the brown haired girl asked, helpless sounding. Ignis whimpered from the faucet where he still sat, although he had plugged the sink and turned the water in, creating himself a bath. "I've made a terrible fool of myself, I'm afraid." Sliding down the door, Rose adjusted her dress and rested her head against her knees, shaking her head. "Let's just go back to our room... There's no point in staying..." With a sigh, she slowly stood, crossing the room to where Ignis didn't seem to be listening, splashing in the sink. "Impossible," she grumbled, picking up the wet dragon and holding him away from her before unplugging the sink. "You can walk for as wet as you are." Setting the dragon down, Rose crossed the room once more and opened the door, peering out to make sure he was gone. Setting off down the hallway with Ignis scampering after her, making sure she wasn't seen as she turned and headed down to the servant's quarters. She walked hurriedly, surely to be in trouble if she got caught. She made it back to her room without being spotted though, and locked herself inside before taking the dress off and hanging it up carefully, even though it was already ruined. she hid it well where it had been for many weeks, and got dressed in her sweatpants and tanktop before laying on her stomach on her bed, trying hard not to cry. The night had not gone well, and it defeated the purpose of even going. What was the use of being able to become a winged for the night if she couldn't do anything? Ignis crawled up next to her whimpering, trying to comfort her.

Kane
As he watched her disappear back into the bathroom, Kane's stomach felt like a bottomless pit. He was failure, and he knew that. He had ruined her night, and now she spoke as if he had hurt her. He was a blundering fool, an idiot, that was what he was. Biting hard on the inside of his cheek, he turned around swiftly and walked back to his room on the second story. The entire time, guilt was eating away at him. As soon as he was inside his bedroom, he slammed shut the door and hit his head against it, leaning like that as he groaned softly. You clumsy oaf! he thought in a worried fashion, before finally dragging himself to a more upright state.
He changed, into a tee-shirt and some loose jeans. His feet were encased in worn sneakers, and his clothing wasn't as nice as the other winged as a whole. He sat beside the six-foot standing mirror in the corner, staring at himself with disgust. His wings finally stretched out, cramped from hiding. They were thin and plain, feathers sightly at a disarray. It wasn't grand or beautiful or fantastic like the rest of the winged. He was as much as a freak to them as the humans were. And now, he managed to get on the bad side of yet another. McKenzie, he thought to himself broodingly, a name to remember.
Indeed it was. She wasn't a winged. Or at least, couldn't be. She was too compassionate, like a human. But then again, he wasn't full of himself either, so that was like jumping to the conclusion that he was an imposter. He eyed the mirrored wings again, sighing heavily. They were large and gawky and strong - fully capable of flight. They were for survival, they weren't for show. Even the males of his species were perfectly grandly perfect. Their wings were delicate but masculine, incapable of flight but still magnificent. His looked like a raven's; ugly and overlooked like he was something off the streets.
Bitterly, he turned away from the mirror, not capable of looking at his brooding features staring back at him in a pitiful way. Curling his lip, he stood and moved to the bay window, which was like half a hexagon. It jutted out of the room and had a little couch wrapped in the inner sill. Sitting there on the couch relaxed him, and staring out at the trees helped to reassure his troubled mind. He just could not, simply could not get over what a fool he was. A slovenly oaf with no manners and complete clumsiness controlling his every move.

Rose had been counting the days since she had last attended the ball, making a small mark on the side of her nightstand each time. Tonight as she stared at it the marks read thirty-two, one day over a month. It had also been the month from hell, something she wouldn't wish to repeat. She'd gotten into trouble multiple times, something she didn't normally do, and Ignis had bitten Kane again, this time on the ankle while she had been tidying his room. Thankfully Kane had not recognized the dragon as the same who had bitten him at the ball, or she surely would have been discovered in that moment. Since then, Ignis had been on a tight rope, and she'd been much more snappy with him, though not on purpose. She'd hardly been able to be in the same room as Kane the first few days, and still could hardly look at him, frightened that he would recognize her, although her scar was always hidden beneath clothes. She still couldn't hardly look at him while she was serving him, but then again, she could take her eyes off of him when she wasn't. She'd seen a different side of him, a side that was kind and rather timid. It was intriguing.
She now sat in her room, fidgeting as she watched the minutes tick by. She was waiting for the moment when she'd be changed, as she was every nice. A stunningly beautiful dress lay out on the bed next to her, and she was barely able to touch it, frightened it would rip the moment she did. The material was so very light and silky, hues of blue flowing seamlessly together, adorned with gems and crystals. She'd taken it from the back of one of the women's closets- it wouldn't be missed. They had so many, and never seemed to wear it more than once. This one was next to new, and looked as if it would fit. She had found shoes to match, and a silver pin for her hair. She'd even snatched a thing if sparkly silver eye make up that the girls often wore.
Getting ready really didn't take her too long. She wasn't used to taking too long, and didn't dilly dally around as she did her things. She slipped into the dress when she had gained her wings, and did something simple with her hair, just twisting it up and pinning it with the pin she had snatched. It wouldn't be missed either- it was simple and rather plain, it wouldn't be anything compared to what the other girls wore. She didn't have a choice though. The dress did fit well, emphasizing what curves she possessed and simply looking pretty. Lastly came her blue mask, which was feathery and sparkly ad full of crystals. IT was pretty, but only slightly different than the one she had worn the first time. She had gotten them from the same place for cheap- they apparently weren't well liked by everyone else.
It took around a half hour to get ready, and by then, she was doubting herself greatly. She set Ignis on her shoulder after lecturing him on being good, and set off. She made sure not to be seen, but paused at the doors to the ball, calming herself by a few deep breaths. She slipped back inside the room, once again shocked by the beauty of it. She wasn't quite sure what she was supposed to be doing, so once again slipped towards the edge of the room. She walked slowly around the room, looking quite uncertain and nervous. She declined the boy who asked her to dance, giving a nervous smile.

Kane
Kane had spent the last month fairly on edge. Somebody's dragon had escaped and bitten him half-way through the month, but luckily it had healed up by now. He could feel a tension between him and the servants of the mansion, especially a couple girls who seemed fairly nervous around him. He had no idea why, since he didn't abuse or taunt any of them like the other winged did. He had mostly stayed in his room or the mansion gardens, or the library. Places that most winged and servants alike didn't want to waste their time in. Though, he loved those places. They were the only three places he gave a second glance to.
Then there was the dances. Normally he would stay as far as possible from that ballroom, but he had lately been trying as much as he could to find that mysterious winged girl from that one time. He still felt like he owed a lot to her. He remembered every detail he had taken note of that night - from her eyes to the dragon on her shoulder. McKenzie... he still couldn't get her out of his head. He felt a bit stupid, being obsessed like he was. But he hadn't stopped coming down, even for just about ten minutes each night. And he had a good feeling about tonight.
He had his suit on again, the same outfit and mask as before. He didn't like changing his suit every night, since it was an every-day-for-a-year type of deal. Now, as he straightened his bowtie in front of his mirror, he grimaced. He knew it was pointless, but he owed her. Something. A dance, an apology, something. When he was finished, which didn't take long, he left his room, made sure his hair was neatly kept, and stepped into the ballroom.
Mystical music greeted him at a loud and medium pace; he immediately started searching through the women who were arriving to find those familiar eyes, or those wings... Finally, he found them, and grew giddy and anxious at the very sight. She was here! Finally, after so much time waiting, so much wasted time just to make it up to one girl... But her expressions, her distress on that night was what had made him so determined. He had ruined a night for her. He'd give her one in return.
Tucking in his wings tightly so not to hit anyone, he stepped forward, coming up behind her. Better now than when she would be at the refreshment table. That was another disaster waiting to happen. In a soft, smooth voice, he asked kindly from behind her, a bit excited to even be seeing her again, "May I have this dance?" As soon as the new song started.

Rose was rather nervous as she wandered about, but the music was intoxicating and contagious and soon had her longing to dance. She had no one to dance with however, and she wasn't going to ask someone. She highly doubted someone was going to ask her either like last time, considering how downright nervous and scared she looked. The young girl didn't head to the punch table- not today anyway, too scared that she might get spilled upon again, and this dress was not hers. She had to return it in the morning, and make sure it would not be noticed that it had been gone from the closet in the first place, or she would surely be in deep trouble. She had been unable to get the stains from the first dress she had worn, and now it sat in the back of her closet, buried under other clothes to makes sure it wouldn't be found, for if it was, she would surely get in trouble, as people would wonder why she needed such a dress.
Soon enough, the brown haired girl found a window look out, looking out over the beautiful gardens and the small river that flowed through them. She had always wanted to go out there and just sit for a spell, but the servants were only allowed out there briefly when a winged needed something and they were out there, but none of the winged where ever there. They didn't see the beauty in it. Her wings slowly opened and closed against her back much like a butterflies, and she had found they tended to do that when she was nervous. She didn't bother to try and hold them still either, knowing it was useless. Ignis was half asleep on her shoulder, smoke drifting from his nostrils every now and then.
The voice behind her startled Rose, making her jump and wakening Ignis, who gave a low growl. She whirled around, the edges of her dress flaring at the bottom as she turned so quickly. "Oh," she uttered in surprise, her eyes widening considerably. She prayed he did not recognize her dragon, and her mind raced as she tried to come up with something to say. She couldn't turn him down- it would seem rude, since she had no one else to dance with and it was obvious, but she didn't quite want to dance with him. She shifted Ignis upon her shoulder to better cover her scarred skin, so she finally made the surprised look leave her face, and slowly nodded, numbly and slowly putting out her hand. She looked almost a bit scared, but tried to smile, even if it was rather nervous of a gesture.
