I N S O M N I A
Insomnia growled, outraged. She needed to fight, to destroy the humans! She knew how they thought, how they would react. Aspen thought that he knew them better than anyone else, but that was a lie. She knew better. Insomnia had lived with them her entire life, until they crash-landed.
It still angered her greatly, to think that the humans could have total and complete control over her again. That she could be the one to kill Murcury, or Aspen. It was understandable why Aspen ordered her to stay in camp at all times, unless accompanied by several more wolves, but Insomnia still hated the rule. If only there was some way to get that bracelet......
But Insomnia knew there wasn't. The risk was too great. Having been injected by the syrum, she was more powerful and intelligent than the rest. It made her have her beauty, newness, and intelligence. The syrum is what had given her the great ability to strategize and organize the other wolves. Too bad she wasn't an Alpha, or even a Suboordinate.
She curled her lip at this idea. The idea that Aspen would even notice her for something besides his own personal planner was slim. And she could never be a Suboordinate; her number was her number, and that was that. If only she had been made one number before.......but she should be greatful for what she had. Aspen had been very kind in letting her be such an anomaly amongthe Pack. She shouldn't be wishing for things she couldn't have.
Insomnia stood up, nodding to Aspen. "Well, I'll be planning the next attack. Maybe something with a lure." With that, she turned and padded angrily back to her den, one that Aspen had given her for her own. It held all the maps and supplies she could ever ask for, though it didn't make her happy.
Insomnia stared at the moon from the entrance of her den. it was beautiful; full and bright, it cast a ghostly glow on the campsite, and shone eerily through the drizzle of rain.
She padded into a small room at the back, then shook herself off. She glanced at her metal parts in the broken mirror, seeing the light sheen of rust dull the gleam. Insomnia sighed, then closed her eyes wearily. She ventured deep into her computer-like mind, then found the part that controlled her metal. She lightly touched it, then opened her eyes.
She watched, bored, as the rust began to fall off like a dust. It was a side effect of the syrum, and was what allowed her to be one of the few wolves that could venture into the rain regularly. It was one of the few grim perks of being the sole wolf injected with the syrum.
Insomnia pursed her lips, then turned away from the mirror. She wanted to see Murcury.
As she padded through the rain, she couldn't help but cast a hateful and jealous glare at one of the patrol wolves. She gave a silent snarl, wishing she could be one to go fight the humans. It was her right, after all.
She suddenly veered away from the path to Murcury's den, padding back to Aspen.
"I want to fight, Aspen." she barked in the old language of the canines, refusing to speak human. She saw he was about to argue, and looked him in the eye. "It's my right, and you know it. I can no longer sit and plan for others to fight those abominations. I must fight. I must taste their blood in my mouth. I must feel their life drain away. I can't bear to organize the other wolves, to send them to their deaths, while I must watch from afar." She slapped her paw on the rock in front of Aspen. "I can't be idle any longer!"
Insomnia had a certain desperation in her face, one that showed how much she needed this, how much she wanted to fight among her Pack mates.
"Please," she whishpered, broken. "Please." Insomnia groveled on her belly, forcing herself to not throw Aspen to the ground and force him to remove the feeling of guilt she felt for being unable to fight. Insomnia knew that would get her no where, though, so she groveled.
Sometimes she could barely stand to be near him. The pain would be too great. But it was her job, unfortunately, to be near him and to plan for him, so she tried to withstand the pain as much as possible. Insomnia was strong, so she could always put herself through pain if she knew it would benefit her or the Pack at some point. She still wished.......
