Kaycee immediately picked up on the barista's sharp tone, to which she only raised her eyebrows ever-so slightly. Nonetheless, she didn't say anything about it, figuring his job couldn't be less exciting. "I'll take a regular back coffee to go." No please, no friendly smile. She didn't bother, not only because this boy seemed on edge but also because she was not in a pleasant mood after thinking about that girl that Kaycee had agreed to work with over the summer. Kaycee shifted to her right slightly as she focused on watching all of the workers try and fill their orders. They all looked frazzled and in a daze, but not the counter one. He just seemed, snappy. Like if someone tried anything funny right then, he most likely would go ballistic. And what Kaycee would give to see that performance. He was pretty boy who knew he was pretty and that just got under KC's skin. When the drink was set down on the counter for her, Kaycee slapped down a twenty-dollar bill. "Keep the change," she said quietly, but in no way was it kind. It was more of a hurried thanks, without actually saying it. KC left the line to go stand off to the side where there were a few tables and people sipping at coffee. Kaycee stood there with a hand in her pocket, just letting steam rise from the cup. She took a small sip and wince at the bitterness of it, but knew that it would wake her up and give her the energy she would so desperately need later. KC glanced at her watch again and groaned, her posture slipping ever so slightly. Her back became subtly more arched and her head was now aimed more towards the ground. Her lips formed a scowl and she drank another small sip and the bitterness didn't hit as strongly as it did the first time.
Kaycee left the coffee shop moments later with her coffee in hand. The library wasn't far and KC found herself dragging her feet. Today for some reason, the dread of stepping foot back in that library was the strongest it had ever been. Yet KC knew it would eventually end up fine. KC stood outside library doors, finishing her coffee and then tossing it out in the trashcan that sat near the library. Kaycee was able to muster some strength as the buzz of the black coffee kicked in, and she strode Into the library, doing her best to hold her head high. She returned to the quiet area and began unpacking, waiting for the girl to arrive. And that she did. Today, her hair was blue and she are a sickening happy face, obviously faked. She slapped down her notebook ad science textbook and chirped, "Hi again, Miss. Kaycee! I remembered to do everything this time." KC saw right through the act but stayed silent, going to look at the girl's work. At the top of the page was her name, Jordy. Kaycee had forgotten the name, which she mentally slapped herself for. The work was overall pretty good, but as KC looked closely, the handwriting was off. Letting out an exasperated sigh, KC looked at her student with an eyebrow raised. "Care to explain this?" Jordy shrugged and batted her eyes innocently. "Explain what?" Kaycee huffed and just admitted defeat. She didn't want to deal with this today. So Kaycee opened the science textbook and began to explain the chapter which was an introduction to chemistry, starting with the periodic table. Jordy just sat there, unamused and barely listening. For the next forty-five minutes, KC did her best to try and teach everything but Jordy didn't say anything. As the teen left, Kaycee watched her go, the thirty dollars balled up in Kaycee's hands. How was she ever going to do this? Kaycee stuffed everything back into the book bag and sat there at the table, just pondering how Jordy possibly worked.
