for many centuries, the animals of the forest of mist have lived in peace. the barn owls have always had fair kings to rule them, and they have always been free. but one power-hungry owl named aalam changed that. he used his powerful armies to take control of the forest, and he has now enslaved all of the owls. it has been like this for years. but the owls will not take this any longer. they are coming up with a plan to escape the king's evil clutches and be free once more. but winter has just arrived, meaning food is more scarce and the owls must work harder. this leaves them almost no energy to make a break for it. will the owls be able to escape, or will they be stuck as slaves for the rest of their pitiful lives?

rules

•please do not start roleplaying until your character(s) have been accepted.
•keep everything realistic. a starving owl cannot kill a larger, well-fed owl. it is not realistic.
•other owl species and other animals are allowed, but please keep them to a minimum. this roleplay mainly focuses on barn owls.
•if you have an idea for the plot, put it on the discussion thread before implementing it. everyone needs to agree on it.
•ask permission before fighting/killing/mating with other characters.
•you may have up to six characters. no more, unless they are eggs that hatched in the roleplay.
•please know a little bit about barn owls before joining.

the owls live in the forest of mist. before the barn owls were enslaved by aalam, many of them enjoyed flying around above the mountains, which were located at the edge of the forest. aalam's followers live in little hollows surrounding a clearing in the forest, near where the slave hollows are. every morning, the enslaved barn owls follow a path from their hollows to a cave, where they search for jewels for aalam to have. the cave is flooded with water, and it leads out into the ocean. the cave also has many tunnels where the owls mine.

Aalam - Male - King - Clearing - Tags: Open

"All talk of rebellion must be silenced." Aalam hissed, stomping his foot on the ground. He looked down at his followers which were gathered around him for the morning meeting. A small raindrop splashed onto the king's beak, rolling down onto his feathers. "If you see anyone discussing plans to overthrow me or escape, excuse them from their work immediately and bring them to me." Aalam dug his talons into the dirt as more raindrops splashed onto his feathers, turning from a light drizzle to a shower. "Now that we've got that out of the way," he growled through a clenched beak. "Tell the slaves to look specifically for malachite today. It will go well with my new hollow I'm renovating. Meeting dismissed." The barn owl swiftly spun around and flew back to his hollow, flying quickly to escape what had now become a downpour.

xxxxxsmall red feather wings pushed against the icy winds as rain drops fell onto her wings. As the rain begun to soak though Kendal's wings, it begun to weigh her body down, making progressively harder to stay air born. But, she proceeded forward, knowing what would happen if she were to stop. Kendal loved to explore, and that's how she got into this mess. At night, she would sneak away from the slave hollows, and would use her small size she sneak past the guards. She wanted to see the outside world, and because of that, she joined the rebellion. Kendal continued forward, silently flying over the ground.

Alex watched the rain pour down outside his hollow. Occasionally, some of the raindrops would be flicked inside, but he was sheltered more or less. The barn owl shivered as wind blew into the hollow, carrying with it raindrops. He shook his body in an attempt to dry his feathers, turning around to see his hollowmates. Kendal was gone, as usual. "Dawn is breaking," he muttered to himself. The guards would soon go take them out to mine, and Kendal wouldn't be there if she didn't come back quickly. He sighed. Alex didn't know her very well, but he knew that the guards would be vey upse if they found out a slave had escaped.

xxxxxKendal blinked, trying to clear her vision of the rain drops that fell into her large eyes. Relief sparked inside her, as she saw the hollow a few hundred yards away. As if her life depended on it, Kendal pushed herself to reach the hollows, knowing that as the sun cut through the stormy night, the guards would be there to escort them to the mines. Quickly she angled herself to land on one of the many branches of the hollow and hopped into the tree. Strategically, Kendal hopped into a hole where wind carried the rain into, in hopes of making it seem like the reason why her feathers were drenched in rain was due to the wind carrying in the icy drops. She ruffled her red feathers, trying to both warm her small form, and to get her feathers to dry even slightly.

Alex watched as Kendal slipped into the hollow and shook out her red feathers. "Where have you been?" he demanded. He didn't know the little screech owl very well, but he was worried about her. She was also a slave owl, like him, and the guards were very strict and unforgiving. Who knows what they might do if they knew a slave was escaping every night? "Sooner or later the guard will find out about this."

xxxxx"I do have a name, you know," Kendal started, "And I was going around exploring," she briefly explained, and shook her feathers once more, more drops of rain flicking to the ground. "Stop worrying so much will you, they won't find out, unless you plan to tell the them," she finished, the light green eyes staring into his. Kendal stopped what she was doing and watched the lager owl, she was new to being a slave, and knew every little about the barn owl. "So, are you going to feed me to the wolves, or pretend that none of this happened?" she asked, eyes narrowing.

"If I was going to tell them, I wouldn't be so worried." Alex replied, huffing in annoyance. "I'm just saying it's risky. That's all." The barn owl shook out his feathers and turned to look out of his hollow. The rain wasn't getting any lighter, and the morning sun was only barely visible through the clouds. Out of the corner of his eyes, he saw the screech owl looking at him suspiciously. "I swear, I'm not going to tell anyone anything."
