Meaning of Ranks:
Alpha
The alpha wolf is a figure that looms large in our imagination. The notion of a supreme pack leader who fought his way to dominance and reigns superior to the other wolves in his pack informs both our fiction and is how many people understand wolf behavior. But the alpha wolf doesn't exist—at least not in the wild.
Beta
The term beta refers to a position in the hierarchy of a wolf pack. The dominate, or alpha position, being the at the top and the most subordinate, or omega position, being on the bottom. The beta position is immediately below the alpha in the rankings.
Shaman
Aids to the sick of the pack, like a doctor to human. Shaman's are born into the Shaman blood line. Shaman's are the third highest ranking.
Adult
These are the adults. They will fight to protect the pack from bears, hunters and other wolves. They are a big part in the pack. They are usually around 3-6 years old.
Adolescent
The adolescent is the teenager age of a wolf, around 12 weeks to 1¹⁄2 years old.
Heavily Pregnant She-wolf
This female wolf is soon to be birthing a litter of pups. Most of the time the Alpha Female will be one of the only females mated but others can mate as well.
Nursing Wolf
This wolf has just had a litter of newborns, a wolf will always be by her side to keep her safe from predators and her pups.
Pups
Puppies are the offspring of an older wolf couple, they will grow up in training with their pack. They are pups till newborns to 12 weeks of age.
Omega/Gamma
The omega wolf is one or more wolves, male or female, that occupy the lowest position in the pack hierarchy. This wolf often plays the role of the scapegoat. They can be male or female wolves, at least yearlings and often older, as pups do not feel the pressures of the hierarchy until they are older.
Elder
This wolf is the oldest in the pack. They will watch over the young once in awhile while the mother and pack go and hunt. They are usually about 7 to 15 years old.
Loner/Rogue
This wolf does not live in a pack, they rather live alone. Most of the time they will go into pack territory to kill their meals, it's not easy being a loner though. They must hunt and protect themselves from any danger, they are also easily killed during winter seasons because some of the times they do not have a den to keep them self warm in.
