In the wild, horses naturally live in an organized social group based on the family unit called a band. A band normally contains a dominant stallion, mares, and juveniles.

A dominant stallion, usually 6 years of age or older, will be in the company of one mare or a group of mares 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. He sires the offspring, and these foals are with their band for at least one year, usually two.

Usually the band has a dominant mare who will be responsible for leading the family group in their grazing. She will lead the family to the water hole and to the mineral lick where they dig for these dietary supplement. She will guide them to sheltered places out of the wind when winter storms howl.

All wild horses are herd animals living off the land in harems dominated by the strongest stallions.

A Stallion owns the herd and sires all the herd's offspring. His role is to keep intruders and predators away from his mares. When you see a group of wild horses moving across the landscape, normally the stallion will be in the rear. He usually runs behind the herd, keeping the slower horses moving and protecting the group from attack.

Occasionally, a two or three year old will still be with their band, but generally the stallion will discourage a young male who is coming of age from consorting with the band.

Young females may be driven off by their mothers, or they simply may choose to leave when they come into estrous. They may select or be selected by another stallion who will breed with her and guard her vigilantly from rivals. By encouraging their offspring to leave the band, wild horses avoid inbreeding.

Most wild horses are more genetically diverse than any domestic horse breeds. As a result they are better able to deal with changing environments and can resist extreme drought or cold better than domestic breeds.

Every herd has leaders, followers, and a well defined pecking order known as a dominance hierarchy.

The Alpha Horse is the dominant leader in a herd. Horses instinctively seek leadership. The Alpha Horse provides leadership and security in a herd.

It is quite common for the Alpha Horse to be an old mare. The members of the herd are submissive to the Alpha Horse when it's time to eat or drink. She often leads the herd to safety and food.

When a horse breaks the rules of the herd, it is rejected and vulnerable to predators. Rejection teaches horses to be submissive and dependent upon leaders for survival and food.

This complex social dynamic holds the wild horse bands together, and each individual knows his or her place in the order. Rules of band behavior are carefully followed. Punishment to a young animal is swift, usually just a head movement with ears laid back or a nip or gentle kick.

► Make your own form please. Be sure to include name, age, personality(no 'rp out' or just one word) and gender. History and height are optional but preferred.
► The only breeds allowed are mustangs.
► Be fair during fights! Give the other roleplayer a chance to respond and be realistic. A two year old won't be able to defeat a ten year old. However, just because a horse is younger that doesn't mean they can't win. If the age gap is small (1-3 years) , age won't matter, but if it's a larger age gap than the older one will win. Please decide the winner through pm so that the fight doesn't last forever.
► No power playing or god modding. Horses aren't invincible and they will get hurt and lose every once and a while. Power playing is not allowed, mares will be allowed to fight back and try to get away but will eventually give in if the stallion snaking them is older than five. Please give others a chance to respond during fights and you cannot control another person's character.
► At least three lines per post. No one liners please.
► Your mare shouldn't hate a stallion for snaking, they can become annoyed and/or dislike them for separating them from their herd, but not because they were snaked

Warm in the day and cool in the mornings and nights. Sometimes it may even rain. Mares are in heat and stallions are more aggressive, breeding with their mares and stealing mares from other herds. Mares might even be foaling, a week after this they can be recovered and carry a new foal for the next year

It is starting to get cooler and it might even rain. Mares are rarely in heat at this time. By the end of Autumn some foals may be born

Days are shorter and nights are longer. The temperature is cold and blankets of snow will cover the land. Some foals may be born in the beginning or end of winter. Can be a dangerous time as it is extremely cold and some herds are even wiped out. Stallions rarely fight and mares are never in heat during this time.

The Land

The Pryor Mountains Wild Horse Range is a refuge for a historically significant herd of free‑roaming Mustangs, feral horses colloquially called "wild horses", located in the Pryor Mountains of Montana and Wyoming in the United States.The range has an area of 39,650 acres (160.5 km2) and was established in 1968 along the Montana–Wyoming border as the first protected refuge dedicated exclusively for Mustangs.

Calcifer was born into a herd that consisted of only him, his mother and his father. His parents were very caring and were very proud of their son. They took good care of him, taught him many things, and even let him stay until he was three years old. Calcifer left his herd and joined a group of bachelors, where he sparred and trained. At seven years old, he stole an entire band of mares from a weaker stallion. He managed to keep these mares for a few years, though some bachelors ganged up on him and took them from him in Autumn when he was nine years old.

Kamina was born in a small herd. Things were great for them, however as time went on, humans found out about the them and began to capture them. Unfortunately when Kamina was two, his herd was captured, though he managed to get away. Kamina began searching for mares when he was five but he had little luck. When he turned seven, he gained a band. He had them for two years and then his herd was rounded up. He was released into the wild, but his mares were taken away.

fallen appears to be a typical mare, standing a mere fourteen point three hands. her bright and lively coat glimmers in a palomino type, and she features an odd blaze with a right front short sock. she has a wide build in the summer and fall when she receives adequate work, and thins out during winter and spring. fallens mane and tail are both of medium length. as said before- typical.

blink surely is a sight to be seen. with a dark, black, coat and bright blue eyes, its quite hard for one to miss her. she has a star and a snip, as well as two front coronet bands. blink stands approximately fifteen point two hands to her withers, and has an average length mane while her tail is a bit long. she has a thick, muscular build with long, flat muscles that can be seen evidently in her rump and shoulder.

Personality: Stardust is a sweet mare on a good day, she is caring and kind, but get on her bad side and she can turn very snappy and dominant, very quickly. She is over protective of foals, wheather they are her own or someone elses in there herd. She can be a bit picky of which stallion she chooses to sire her foals, unless she is in full heat then she will just choose the first stallion that finds her, so she tries hard when she is in low heat, to find the perfect stallion.
History Stardust doesn't have much of a history, she grew up in a herd, it wasn't the best but it wasn't the worst, and then when she was the early stages of two she got kicked out of her herd and was on her own. She went in between small herds but they all got split up before she got covered, mainly because the stallions either drowned, froze to death or died of old age. But she is on the look out for a new herd, and as she gets older she gets ever more desprate to find a herd.

Personality: Safar is very adventurouse and likes to push limits that shoudn't be pushed, he doesn't like to take no for an answer. He extremely curiouse of everything and often gets himself into unwanted trouble. He is rather flirty and quite playful when he meets a mare and doesn't like to be alone
History Safar was born in a very laid back but large herd, he was allowed just to go off as far as he wanted as long as he came back to his mother when it was dark. Some foals were killed by this but the herd never changed it's ways, his mother was gentle and let him play with the other foals as long as he never got to rough. He left the herd when he was old enough but he was so used to being on his own it never really shook him. He met a mare along the way and lived in a small herd for a while before she and her foal were taken away by humans but he managed to escape.

Personality: Sakura is very dominant and bossy and doesn't like to be argued with or be given a lack of respect. She gets grouchier every year and is hard to persuade to do anythng she doesn't want to. She is protective of foals and will challenge anyone who trys to mess with her or all her foal. She can be hot headed at times but underneath she is just a sweet, loving mare.
History Sakura was born in a normal herd, but she faced many tough cercumstances when she was only young, such as hunger and draught. Her first winter was an extremely bitter one, her mother drowned in a frozen river when she didn't see the ice, Sakura was just light enough to run across and say her good byes. The lead mare who striggled to havefoals took her on after that when her first young foal froze to death. She wasn't the same as her mother but she took good care of her. The herd had to move on from there place as it many horses were dying and by next summer they had found there new home. By then the herd was much smaller than it had been when Sakura was born and it took them a while to get back to normal size and they forgot that Sakura should be leaving soon, so next spring she left to find her own herd. She dotted between herds all her life but only had one succesful foal between them, her name was Lotus bloom but she called her clover. She was lucky to leave the herd when she did as a year later it to was broken apart when the lead stallion died in a wolf attack. She had been on her own ever since.

Personality: Clover is very bossy and dominant like her mother, she is hot headed and can often have mood swings between time to time. She is brave and doesn't like younger mares challenging her. She is protective of all foals, not just her own.
History Clover was born into a small herd, with an older stallion and a sweet mother which she got most her personality from. The herd was always in fear of a nearby wolf pack which would pop up now and then and attack the herd and there young. Clover managed to leave the herd safely but was always worrying about her mother. She has just been on her own ever since.

Personality: Savanna is quite a sweet mare, but is also rather shy and if she knows a stallions nearby she won't approach unless she's in full heat or has checled him out from a distance first. Savanna likes to be in the company of others and prefers big herds with an experienced stallion rather than a lone stallion who doesn't look old enough to look after her. She may develop a sharp tongue in deffence but that is very rare for savanna.
History Savanna was born in quite a big herd, where she had lots of half siblings that a few she liked and a few she didn't. Most of them left as she got older and new ones were born, more mares joined and some mares died, but the stallion grew older and older but Savanna didn't know how old he was until the herd was threatened by a strong and healthy stallion, the two lead stallions battled and the other one won, leaving Savanna's father heavily injured, old and alone. Savanna's mother didn't trust the other stallion, and being in a big herd she told her to slip away before he found her, so she did. So Savanna continues in search of another herd alone and young.

Personality: Hurricane is a very head strong and proud stallion, he likes to keep his reputation as good as possible even if it means a little lying here and there. Hurricane as you may guess from his name is a hurricane of wonders and often has a mixture of emotions at the most unexpected at times, he is quite a surprise to most horses when they meet him because of his strange and mysterious personality.
History Hurricane was born in a small herd with only one mare in it and a stallion, his mother and father, they had struggled to find a herd all there lives because of the enviroment around them, not many horses lived there because of the barron desertland that Storm called home. But as all horses do, Hurricane had to leave his parents one day and he eventually did, he tried looking for mares and other horses for the first few months but he knew it was hopeless, if he was in for any chance of surviving and having a herd he knew he would have to leave the desert and worse Hurricane could tell there was a sand storm on the way and had to leave quickly, so the next morning he galloped away, following the sun.

A few days into his journey and he is hungry and thirsty, the sand storm as hit but the land that he has coverd means he only get the tail end of it as it has calmed down by now. Now Hurricane couldn't care a less about a herd or finding a new home, all he wanted was water and after hours of truding through sand he finally fond it, edged by a few trees was a lagoon that edged a sort of forest, Hurricane quickly drank from the watering hole drinking in big gulps and when he eventually perked his head up, right in front of him was a mare and that was the start of his first herd. He had three mares and two foals and the third on it's way by the time he was four, two others had already left the herd, he lived in a forest area which he had moved far away from the desert land which he once lived in and it just seemed like an ordinary day.

He had took his herd to a patch of grass to graze, he hadn't been to this place before but the grass looked fresh and tasty, so he took his herd there to graze. But the herd soon realised, they were not alone, humans came and tried to contan the herd, and Hurricane instinctivly faught them off, but he didn't notice that while he was fighting, the humans were taking his herd behind his back. He by the time he realised, there was only his yearling daughter left and giving a kick to one of the humans about to kidnap her, he galloped of with her.

They survived together for a year, before his daughter had to leave to find her own herd.

History Willow was born in a herd with three mares and her father, she had a few half siblings which she would enjoy playing with. She was always curious of new things and eager to explore. One day her father took her to a new patch of grass to graze and it was wonderful, until the humans came, they took her mother right before her eyes, and her father just managed to save her in time. She haslived a lone mare ever since.

Personality: Prince is very clumsy, he's not the best at gaining mares but he has a kind and gentle heart, which some find hard to find. He's strong and muscular meaning he can often come across quite thratening when he is the coplete opposite, just a clumy gentle giant.
