Valdemar smiled as the plan began to unfold. He braced himself, feeling his muscles tighten and adreniline of the hunt - even a small one as this - pulse through his veins. He licked his lips and slowly edged forward, waiting for Kali to make her move. Once she had, Valdemar rocketed in beside her teeth pulled back, threatening the small, squeaking meerkats. Just as he was about to sink his teeth into the delicious meerkat flesh, he turned and changed his mind. He'd noticed a Meerkat diving for a hole, and managed to catch its hind leg and tail just before it disappeared. Valdemar clamped down hard, feeling the small porcelain bones crunch beneath the pressure. He threw his head back sharply and let go, watching the creature fly through the air, away from the tunnels. It wouldn't get very far with broken back legs and possibly spine, so he turned his attention on the remaining meerkats.

Niki had waited long enough, and as soon as the meerkats had come out, she rushed out of her own hiding spot, muzzle low to the ground. She snapped up one, giving it a good hard shake, breaking the neck. She tossed it to the side, catching another before it went down the hole, repeating what she had done before. She was now standing in front of the hole, leaving the last remaining few scurrying towards different holes, giving the other two a chance to catch them while she caught the one she decided to be her last as he tried to squeeze past her legs. She looked at her small pile of three, shaking her head in disappointment. "Your skills are rusty at best," she snarled to herself, though she quickly turned her attention to the other two to see what they may have needed.

Hero had arrived back at camp, yawning and panting, looking rather hot and tired. He found some shade and quickly scampered to hit, laying down in the heat and whimpering softly. He'd done his scouting mission already, and the other animals who would have normally been a threat if seen were smart enough to be away from this awful heat.

Valdemar quickly snatched up two more meerkats as they attempted to run past him into another hole. He was quick and ruthless, sinking his teeth in deep and shaking his head hard and fast. It got the job done quickly and efficiently. He took a quick pause; looked over the battleground whilst cleaning the blood from his weapons. He panted slightly as he licked the blood from his small, sharp daggers but knew he couldn't stop. There was a small group of three meerkats heading towards a hold between him and Niki. He Looked and her and motioned quickly, knowing she would see and understand without having to draw it out. Being closer to the hole than Nikita, Valdemar Leaped elegantly forward to block off the entrance. He felt a cool breeze and he passed through the air and allowed himself a nanosecond to enjoy it... And then he was back. His feet thudded on the ground as he landed. He seized one meerkat in his jaws of death before it joined the others in their run for freedom towards Nikita.

Niki let out a sharp snarl, lunging at one but sliding so she blocked the other. She finished off the first, and while the second was scrambling in a daze, she finished him off. She sighed, adding them to her pile. You need to do some lone hunts soon, get back into the groove of things, she continued to think, watching for any remaining ones, though by this point, there were only about one or two left, which she would leave to either Kali or Valdemar.

Valdemar finished off one of the remaining two as it passed within reach and decided to leave the other one to Kali. He heard a squeak from his kill pile and quickly realised the one he hadn't killed earlier. He padded softly over, tiring in this heat. It seemed that even the slightest movement used twice as much energy in the summer. He began to search through and fish out the live meerkat. He knew which one it was right away. Not because it was making noise, but because it bit him right on the nose as he went to grab it. He yelped and moved back quickly , feeling warm blood trickle down his nose. Well this was embarrassing! He snarled and grabbed it roughly in his jaws, shaking it's life away with a new-found effort mixed with revenge. He dropped the corpse and licked some of his own blood from his nose, and turned to look at Nikita. She seemed to be in thought, with a slight frown playing upon her face. "You okay, Niki?"

Niki looked up, startled, though let out a soft laugh. "Shouldn't I be asking you that?" she teased softly, padding over to him. "I am fine, thank you. It's just that I used to be one of the best hunter's in this pack. I could take things down no one else even dared to. I could catch more prey than anyone. And now...I feel like I'm getting rusty. I only caught those extra two meerkats because you drove them my way. I'm so used to being the star of the hunters, that when I'm not, I guess it gets me down," she explained quietly, not quite reaching his eye as she admitted to this. "This is why I don't get along with subordinates. If they happen to beat me in hunting, it only proves I am not worthy of a dominant spot."

Valdemar smiled understandingly and licked her muzzle soothingly. "Don't get yourself down, Niki. How are you supposed to be the best hunter and lead us to the edge of death and back when there isn't so much as a Thompsons Gazelle to hunt? We're lucky to even find meerkats. You're still a fantastic Hunter, Niki! One of the best!" He smiled. "I say 'one of' because, well, I'm pretty darn good!" He laughed and marched in a circle with his head held high, pretending to be the best.

Niki laughed at his antics, shaking her head. "Thanks Vald," she chuckled, sitting on her haunches and panting. "As soon as Kali gets the last one, I'm wallowing in the oasis," she panted, shaking her head and feeling sticky.

¶ Kali drooped the first meerkat and dived back for another, snapping her jaws around one not allowing it to struggle. Kali was leaping all over the shop, her ears pricking at the sound of every tiny little heart beat. Flinging the corpse of the meerkat into the air she leaped up snatching it before it hit the ground again. She trotted over to the other one laying it besides it. She spun around watching Valdemar chase several her ears twitched before she got her eye on one heading back for the hole. She took this chance, she rose up leaping several yards off the meerkat. The animal was going in the hole ; so Kali went in after it. Head first she dived into the cramp hole, her middle and hinds left outside, she snapped her jaws around the tail of the meerkat before she dragged herself out, dust and all. Dropping the animal she flicked it like a cat would do up into the air, before she snapped her jaws across the flesh and she gave it several good shakes. She came to her pile dropping it heavily on top of the others. She pursed her lips, her tongue rolling over her ivories as she blinked watching the other two round the last ones up. Kali was more of a bigger-animal hunter, but this was just childs play. She knew she was better catching zebras and wilder beast, and antelope. She pricked her ears watching one meerkat scuttle her way. She landed on top of it with a thud, her teeth sinking into the warm flesh before she rung it violently to a side, allowing it to land in the direction of her pile. She twitched her nose looking over at the two. " Heh, well done. " She spoke before grasping the meerkats in a great heap. Kali had managed to catch fur, she trotted her tail tip twitching from either side as she left the other two by themselves, she didn't want to interrupt. She walked stiffly dodging most patches of sun but in places it was impossible. She came into camp carrying lunch for them, her gaze met shade first. " Afternoon snack? " She chuckled flicking her ear back and forth wondering if the others where following.
