Haze smiled at Iris, "Most of the time it's about my brother. He and I never liked eachother. In the pride, he would always be in the spotlight and I would be in his shadows." He sighed, remembering the moments when Travis got rewarded for saving pride leader's cubs, when it was Haze who saved them. Haze tried to forget everything about his brother, Travis, but the more he tried to forget, the more buried memories surfaced. "I always felt as if I was tossed away and nobody needed me. Until my brother Travis died protecting me." He dropped his head as the scene once again flashed in front of his eyes, as if he could see it happen over and over but there's nothing that could be done to stop it.

"Oh." Iris said, looking down to her paws. "I'm sorry about your brother." She added. She paused, unsure of what to say next. She has never lost a family member in that way, she couldn't even imagine what Haze was going through. "About nobody needing you...that's not true. I...I need you. If you weren't here with me, I don't know where I would be..." She said. She was young and inexperienced, having been raised in captivity she had no idea how to survive without human help. Fortunately she wasn't alone, she had a friend she could depend on.

Haze nearly jumped when Iris said that she needed him. What? Me? Why would anyone choose me out of all lions? He questioned himself silently. "Oh, um. Uh, I guess, um." He stammered unable to speak, that confession completely surprised him, and raised a bit of his self confidence as well. Haze cleared his throat before actually saying something that was worth it, "Well, it's nothing really. And being with you for all of our journeys and... Um..." He mentally slapped himself for that sentence coming out very awkward, especially the tone.

The fox relaxed a bit seeing the lions talk amongst themselves. He inched forward, curious about what the lions had to say. He began to feel comfortable around them, learning their names. Haze and Iris, he said to himself. Circus grew tired and trotted to the back of the cave. He plopped down and promptly fell asleep.

"I-I'm sorry, I didn't mean to make it awkward." She stammered, noting Haze's surprise at what she said. "It's true though...I don't know how to survive on my own. Humans have cared for me my whole life so I didn't know what to do once they were gone..." She said. She's lived a sheltered life. Finally being free was a great feeling, but Iris didn't know how to survive on her own. Living a wild life was a lot harder than it seemed. Noticing movement, she glanced to the corner of the cave where the fox was curled up. He was sleeping, which meant that he was comfortable with her and Haze. She was curious about the fox, but didn't want to bother him, so she looked back to Haze.

Haze smiled, "Are you cage born? It doesnt really bother me if you stay with me." To think his friend was raised by those two legs and managed to stay with him out in the wild. She must be strong and have loads of courage. Haze blinked excited, "I could show you the mountains! And the savannah! And the cold waters!" He imagined Iris and him padding up the mountains and having a great adventurw together. The lion smiled at that thought, but he knew that he won't be able to saty with her much longer. Since Haze was already pretty old and it would be surprising if he lived for another year. "Perhaps... the savannah is the only place I could show you for now."

"Yeah, I am. I grew up in a...in a...place called a zoo, I think?" She said, tilting her head a bit. When Haze started listing off all the places they could go, Iris grinned and stood up. "Oh yes! I've always wanted to go to the savannah!" She exclaimed with bright eyes. Her mother has told her stories of the savannahs. She told Iris of all the different animals that lived there, of other lions and prides, and how there were no cages that limited them, how they could run and explore all they wanted. "Do you know how to get there?"

That was the only problem. Haze didn't know the way back to his homeland. It's over. He thought as his hope took a downswing. He was lying around when the two legs came out of no where and caged him. Haze tried to fight back but the cage held him tight. They brought him into this giant metal bird and dropped him off in a random forest. Now here he was, trying to get back home but he doesn't know the way. "I guess if we go the opposite way of the north star, we should be able to reach the savannah in.. sometime..." Haze sighed, "I don't know. The two legs brought me here with a huge metal bird, I guess it took a few days to get here, which would take about a few months or a year to get to the savannah?"

( i'm going to make a few more lions from the pride Haze was in, just living a normal life on the savannah. i wonder if Iris and Haze will ever get to the savannah. where would Haze and Iris be on a world map right now, Italy? )

The fox, being half asleep, perked up his ears at the mention of the savannah. He groggily got up and padded closer to the lions. Circus had always been curious about the savannah. When he tried to go in, he almost got killed by a couple of eagles. The fox sat down and looked at Haze. big metal bird?, he thought. "Oh you mean a plane?", the fox spoke up.

Haze blinked, "Plane? What's that?" A plane... That sounds like something he could eat. Or was it a pride's name? He tilted his head confused, "What do you mean by plane?" As more ideas popped into Haze's mind, he got more confused.
