"Hey...hey, Gabe." His ear twitched and he grumbled a little, but didn't wake up. Zephyr sighed and resorted to the only other way she knew of waking him: licking his ear repeatedly. His grumbling intensified to a small growl as he shook his head, blinking blearily in the faint light. "Council meeting, remember?" The Weimeraner/Doberman mix whispered as she sat down, ear perked as she obseved him. The Boxadore sighed and placed his head back on his paws.
"They always have to have it so early in the morning, don't they..." he mumbled, eyes slowly slipping shut again. Zephyr pawed his head this time, getting annoyed with how lackadaisical he was acting.
"Yes, for good reason. The humans aren't awake and therefore, they don't miss us." She hated explaining it over and over again. Gabriel winced at her paw's pressure and yawned, rising to his feet. He gave himself a good shake and then slowly padded over to the dog door.
"I'm glad for that..."
"Don't you care about the attacks?" Zephyr asked, getting more annoyed by the moment with her adopted brother. Gabriel sighed after taking a deep breath of the pre-dawn air. Everything was so still. Nothing had disturbed the droplets of dew on every blade of grass yet. Not even the birds were singing.
"Of course I do, Zephyr. Quit being such a worry-wart..." he grumbled as he got his stiff legs moving. Zephyr was right beside him, trotting along as if she had been awake for a while already. There was a good chance that was a true statement.
"Let's get to the field quickly. You know how Gervasious doesn't it like waiting on us," his adopted sister said as she moved into a ground-eating lope through the quiet streets of the town towards the meeting field. Gabriel groaned and goaded himself into a matching pace.
"Gervasious doesn't like anything..." he grumbled to himself.
Their pace quickly brought them within sight of the meeting field and of the other dogs already present at the meeting spot. Zephyr caught her breath at the number; they were bound to be slightly reprimanded at this point. She promised herself that next time, she would leave Gabriel to his dreams and be exactly on time for once instead of slightly late. She saw three Council members, Shadow, Gervasious and Knyte. Shear, Dusty, and Ghost were also present.
"Hello, everyone," she called out softly, slowing down to a walk as she neared the group. "I'm here, and Gabriel is somewhere behind me."
"Not that far behind you, Zeph," Gabriel called as he appeared from the gloom a few seconds later. "Hey all," he panted, a goofy smile on his face as he took a seat beside Zephyr.
