The Den

Twitch awoke to the commotion of the others in the pack awakening. With a lazy stretch and a yawn, the largest member of the pack got to his paws and made his way outside. Snow was tumbling down out of the sky, but not thick enough that it really obstructed his view. He could smell his sister had been here last an hour or so ago, which meant that she had left to do her rounds, and that she should be back soon. With a huff of hot air from his nose, he created a swirling vortex of vapor, reminding him just how cold it was outside. Thankfully his winter coat was fully in, and protected him from the cold. A loud crashing noise perked his ears, and he turned to face it just as Swift came sprinting into the clearing.

┗━━━━━━━━━┛

┏━━━━━━━━━┓

Swift arrived in the clearing just as most of the wolves had woken up. With the noticeable absences of Starr, Riptide and Flavia.

"What's wrong?" Twitch asked, taking a step forward.

"Str- strange scent by th- the river." she panted, trying to catch her breath. Suddenly realizing just how un-Alpha-like her actions were, bursting into a clearing like this, she straightened up and ignored the stabbing pains in her side and the scream for air in her lungs, evening out her breathing pattern. "We need to scent it out and figure out what it is. I know it isn't a two-leg, and it doesn't smell like their strange monsters. I have absolutely no clue what it is."

Swift was relying on her ragtag pack to have some idea what it could be. It was possible that in their many moons of travel one of the others could have come across a scent similar to this. Her hopes rested even heavier on Kinumyth, the eldest member of the pack. Whenever she was stumped by one thing or another, he was usually the one to step up and have suggestions to help her.

She looked at the wolves one by one. Her second-in-command Kinumyth, settled in a hollow he had made in the snow. Skybliss, whom she had caught just as he was re-entering the camp. Evelette was sitting by the entrance to the cave, some snow having already settled on her dark fur. Chachi, Twitch, and Yoru were all standing around in the clearing, some with more snow on their fur than others. All that were missing Swift presumed were either in the cave still or out hunting already, but they would be warned as soon as possible.

(thank you)
Starr sat quietly by herself, watching the nature around her and listening to the sounds of the near by river as the water crashed against the rocks and flowed down the stream, she smiled to herself. She noticed a beautiful blue bird fly down infront of her. Her ears twitched and she was thinking of weather to pounce or not, before she made up her mind the bird noticed her and took off quickly.

    ғυℓℓ иαмє:
"It's Riptide. " The reply comes from between clenched teeth, and does nothing to change the wolf's sour expression, "Just Riptide. None of this Tide, nor Rippy business. I don't do nicknames."

    иιcкиαмє{s}:
    "WHAT DID I JUST SAY?"

    ɢєи∂єя:
There's a sound, like a snort, and for a moment the teeth are pulled back. "Do 'ya think dames have teeth like these? But I'm a male, in case 'ya couldn't tell."

    αɢє:
He holds up a paw, "How many fing..., you know what, never mind. I'm three and a half."

    вιятн ∂αтє:
"January 1st, don't remember the year, it was a long time ago. I think."

σи тнє oυтsι∂є
    αρρєαяαиcє:
"I'm a little on the scrawny side (BUT IT'S ALL MUSCLE IT TELL YAH), you can see a bit of my ribs and the bone of my legs. My eyes are shallow, and my muzzle's long. I have no spectacular build. But hey, I'm proud of who I am. I have rather large daggers though. Can sink my teeth all the way down to the bone of a rabbit, here I'll show yah!"

    єчє cσℓσя:
"The color of bark. Brown. Nothing much to say about them."

    ғυя cσℓσя:
"Chocolate on the outside & caramel cream on the inside. Oh whoops, I thought you were talking about...oh never mind... I'm kind of a greyish white all over. A moldy color as my mother so lovingly dubbed me before she got eaten by those rabid bears. My paw pads and the tips of my toes are black as a new moon's night though."

    ωєιɢнт:
"Seventy. Exactly, don't laugh. Don't think I don't see you over there."

    sнσυℓ∂єя нєιɢнт:
"Ha! Thirty. You thought I was gonna say 29, huh?"

    ℓєиɢнтн:
"Five," it's a mumble, but audible. His mouth barely opens as he says it. The word's sour on his tongue.

((All in all he's very small))

ιи ∂єρтн (done in 3rd person)
    ρєяsσиαℓιтч:
Riptide's not what you call friendly. His mouth tends to move before his mind can even start, words rolling off his tongue and his mouth working a mile a minute. He's more vocal when it comes to his rudeness and due to his stature (and weakness) would probably loose in an actual physical fight. Oddly, he has a soft spot for puppies and tends to like being around their presence. This brings out the patient side of him, and once in a while you can even see kindness, though it's very miniscule. His words are usually sharp as knives, and he makes empty threats he cannot keep.
His loyalty wavers, depending on who or what he's protecting.

    нιsтσяч:
"Her body felt like lead, her stomach moving in heavy uneven breaths. Her knees were tired so tired. They gave out under her and plummeted into the snow, barely making more than a sigh. She was tired, so tired. Her eyes closed, than opened, then closed again, slower this time. Riptide moved behind her. Fog puffed from his throat and created clouds before him. He called out to her, called again. But she didn't have the strength to wag more than the tip of her tail. He was beside her in an instance, his head to her heart.
"You'll make it," he whimpered in woofs and howls. He licked her face. Felt the cold of her cheek against hers.
She didn't say a word. Not even her breathing was abnormal. He didn't feel it waver. only knew when her tail stopped wagging.
She was gone, taking his pups with her.
    He was alone, so alone."
    ℓιкє:
pups, running, eating, sleeping, and all around being lazy. He also likes making those empty threats he can't keep, and making others feel inferior.
    ∂ιsℓιкє:
those with good attitudes, those who try to get him a good mood, physical movement (besides running), love, love, love, did we mention love?, hunting of any sort at all

ℓσvє sтυғғ
    cяυsн:
"Bleh. I'm not into that ooshy gooshy stuff."
    sтαтυs:
"Single. And planning on staying that way."
    ραsт яєℓαтισиsнιρs:
"Um, there was this one girl, but let's not talk about it! That was a long time ago."

{Accepted! :3 Right now, as far as pups go, we only have Yoru, and he's a year old already... So he's basically an adult. Though there is the possibility of pups in the future. ;D}

inspiration music: say goodbye

Яιρтι∂ɛ

His eyes opened slowly, as if waking from a long sleep. Except Riptide hadn't been sleeping, nor dousing, his usual afternoon activity. Actually, he couldn't remember what he had been doing. Except now he was here. There was something, now he was waking up.
Riptide shook his head and tried to clear this abstract thoughts. His body felt like lead, worn and heavy. Several places popped as he tried to stand. His legs wouldn't have it, buckling beneath him not a moment before he got to his feet.
"Hey," he groaned, rolling on to his back, "Hello?" The small 'den' created a cavern around him. His own voice echoed back with no reply, as he again struggled to his feet. This time he made into the clearing. The light took a moment to adjust to his eyes. He blinked several times, and used his tail to swat the several flies that insisted on following him everywhere he went.
From his spot he watched as Swift relayed his message in a quick tongue. Even with his ears perked he couldn't make out a single word.
His body leaned forward as she repeated herself, panting in-between.
Apparently his mind didn't relay to his feet what he was doing, because in a moment or so of leaning, Riptide found himself on the ground hind legs over head.
"Nobody noticed, right?" he whispered to nobody in particular.

Chachi's eyes fluttered open from inside the pack den. The average sized fae got up and streched her hindlegs, opening her mouth and yawning in the process. Her brown eyes looked around the cave to see the others asleep. She slowly padded out of the den and scented that the alphess, Swift, had cleared the entrance. But she must've left awhile ago, because the entrance was slowly filling again. She began digging the snow away, and then swept away the remainder with her bushy tail. She left the den and went over to the frozen, cold lake. She then wet up on her hindlegs swiftly, and hardened her forelegs, and in an instant hit the lake, and cracked it. She did it multiple times until a hole was big enough for her to drink out of. She lapped up some water and walked away to find a suitable meal. After catching scent of mice scurrying beneath the ear, she heard a howl. Swift's howl. A howl for danger. Chachi pointe her head to the sky and also howled. She then ran to Swift as fast as she could and when she saw the alpha, bowed her head in respect and then asked, "What's wrong?"

... A question and a silent chuckle ...

єvєℓєттє
Ears twitched as the sound of pawsteps hurried towards them, the dark fur bristled for a moment, only to lay flat again as the owner of said pawsteps appeared. Evelette took a few steps out into the snow, only managing to clear the den entrance when she stopped to hear what Swift was saying. She sat on her haunches, listening intently, though not speaking a word. ' A new scent? ' she thought, slightly tilting her head to the left. She began mentally going through a list of all the possible creatures or items that would be found around their territory. Several different animals came to mind, though she'd have to experience the scent for herself to make sure. Movement caught her eye and she glanced over, finding Riptide had leaned over a tad bit too much. She held back a tempting chuckle, then turned her attention back to the alpha.

She perked her ears asshe heard Swift's announcement, but pushed it away. Swift always rubbed off as unprofessional to Chachi, but she always let the whimsy alphess be. Chachi padded towards the beautiful frozen waterfall she had come to know and love. She padded beside its steep snowy sides and sat atop, closing her eyes and letting the gentle breeze dance in her fur.
