A Tale of Two Packs: Sky-Dogs (RP Thread)

Denae was still asleep well into the day. The night before had not been kind to her, unfortunately, with so many Pups squirming and squealing around them, all cramped into one small space. There were still more than a dozen Pups, but they didn’t bother her now. What did seem a bit off was...the dream she was having. First it was a meadow with a mouse she had been stalking, and then all of a sudden, the silhouette of another wolf, a full grown one, had entered her mind, and she did not recognize them. It was not one of her parents.

Dream-Denae looked up at the wolf as he approached. Yes. She was FAIRLY certain it was a male. The scent difference was ever so slight, but it existed, and she’d learned to tell it apart. Aru, Blaze, and Roland had the undertone of that scent while herself, Naomi, Kioko, Galaxy, and Faith did not. She didn’t move from where she was in that green, grassy meadow, even after the mouse had spooked and she’d lost sight of it, she just stared at the wolf in wonder. Who was he? Where did he come from? What did he want?

Dyson gave the pup a warm smile, hoping it was enough to not scare her.
"Hello, Denae." He said softly, padding towards her. He stopped a few meters away from her, giving her the chance to keep her distance if she wished.

Denae...he knows me? Or my parents? Then she noticed there was a shine to his fur that she had not seen on any wolf before. Almost as if his pelt was made of the stars themselves! Her mother had never talked about wolves with stars in their fur! Did the stars ever fall out? Oh she hoped not, they were pretty!

"Who..." Words weren’t easy, as they were still just beginning to learn, but there had been enough chatter she’d managed to pick up a few words, a few meanings. She hoped she got it right. "Who are you?"

"My name is Dyson." He replied, stepping closer. "I am a Starris wolf, coming to visit you, young one." He kept up his warm smile, and sat down, patting the ground with a paw to invite her over. His sparkling fur was still as he waited, his eyes welcoming. He felt a small twinge of guilt as he sat, but did his best to ignore it. This was one of the ways he would lure pups those years ago. They would find him, sometimes lost, thinking they'd found help. He and Chiren would put on the same warm smiles, and as soon as their prey was within their reach... They struck.

Octavia

Octavia stood watching Rain, watching as she pounced on one of the female pups. She cleared her throat slightly, feeling nervous about the whole thing. “I want to do it, I do, but I just hope that I will be up to it” she admitted sheepishly, her ears swivelling. She lay down beside Cobalt, her tail swishing gently amongst the grass.

Rain let out a triumphant squeal when she felt Anna flatten beneath her. She didn’t expect it to even work, but it did. This was the first time she had even beat anyone at anything, so she felt proud. AND Anna was well trained too. “Are you ok?” She asked Anna, stepping off.

Willow flinched as she felt a tongue on her. she continued to sleep and let the licking continue.

"You have wolves here who can help," Cobalt promised. "Many of us know about dreamwalking. In the end, ultimately it’s up to you, and it can be learned at any point. If you don’t want to, knowing the risks, that’s perfectly okay. There’s no shame in changing your mind. It can be a scary thing. If you still do want to learn, I’ll still do everything I can to teach you to be both successful with it AND safe," He promised.

Oh it was terrifying, risking being caught between worlds with no way back. That was the one thing wolves had fallen to. Too often for his liking. Cobalt had long ago vowed not to let it happen to any of the wolves who learned dreamwalking from him, for such was simply not acceptable.

Before Rain could get off, Anna pinned her ears down against her head. "You have to hold for three seconds!" She reminded her, but in the course of saying so, Rain already had. She didn’t want the new Pup to win TOO easily, but it’d suck to lose as soon as she came up here too! When Rain finally clambered off the older Pup, Anna slowly got to her feet, ears returning to their normal position. She shook her fur out.

"I’m fine!" The Pup promised, after making sure that nothing was sore and there were no burrs or bugs crawling around in her thin, pale fur. "Are YOU?"

While Kai curled up next to his mother, Grace paused momentarily to reach over and lick his ear in turn. He flicked his other ear in acknowledgement, but said nothing, just watched her and the strange new Pup she had brought into their den. Yet she treated this Pup as if she were one of her own daughters. That was exactly how Grace had hoped to come across too, for that was exactly how she saw things.

She returned to gently grooming the Pup, closing her own eyes and focusing just on the gentle, rhythmic strokes of her tongue over the Pup's ear and the back of her head.

Denae curiously padded forward, though her entire body felt almost completely weightless. The Starris wolf had a warm smile and kind eyes. It reminded her of someone, but she couldn’t quite tell her. One of the adult wolves of her Pack? Had this male once been part of her Pack? And what was Starris? She’d have to ask her mother or father when she next got the chance. For now, she simply came to join the Starris wolf, craning her next to stare up at him in pure and unhidden awe. The young Pup also soon found that she could speak like an adult wolf here, rather than the choppy words of a Pup. Was her mind a bit more mature here than it was in the waking world?

"Do I know you? You have stars in your fur!" She stepped forward and curiously batted lightly at one of the silvery stars in the Starris wolf's fur.

Dyson chuckled as the pup reached up to his sparkling fur.
"No, I don't believe you've seen me before. I never joined a pack." The old wolf lowered himself to the ground, now on the pup's level rather than way up high. For a brief moment, he felt nothing on his paws.
In Lolan's den, his claws pressed even deeper into the soil, his individual toes moving around momentarily.
I think I almost drifted... He thought, a chill running down his spine. He noticed his face had contorted into one of worry, and quickly changed his features, in a faint hope that the pup didn't notice. "So, little Denae. How are your siblings doing?" Dyson remembered Lolan had said Denae was the calmest out of a wolf's litter.That meant there were more, right?

"Well...Galaxy and Aru mostly play. Naomi and Kioko haven’t moved since they were born, really, aside from to drink. I’m kind of worried for them, but the rest seem to be okay." Denae didn’t question how he knew her name. He was a star wolf! Of COURSE he knew her name. He had stars in his fur, he had to be a GOD of some kind!

Dyson's brow furrowed as he heard the young wolf's words. When Alita was what he assumed to be their age, she was up and romping around. Did they have parents that were taking care of them properly? The ones called Naomi and Kioko must've been sick... Or maybe that's just what some did. Dyson didn't know. He only had Alita's actions to go off of, and for all he knew, she could've been the odd one.
"Who is looking after you and your siblings?" He asked, tilting his head slightly."
