A Tale of Two Packs: Sky-Dogs (RP Thread)

"It’s okay, Octavia," Acero promised. He nodded towards Lolan. "This's my dad. He was the Lightning Pack Alpha before Shadow," he explained. "These are my nieces by Shadow. The little ones are called Anna and Merida." He lightly nosed the two young she-wolves. "Their brother is still down on earth." He glanced towards the male of all different shades of grey, varying from almost white to almost black. "And this...is Fang. Unfortunately, he was not a wolf I knew very well before he died. He seems friendly enough though."

Fang dipped his head to Athena. "A pleasure." He thought Acero had called her Octavia, but he didn’t want to use a name yet and slip up in case he had heard wrong. This is my problem around she-wolves. I’m always scared I’ll mess up... He silently scolded himself. "I’m sorry that you’ve had to come up here, but it’s a good enough place, I promise! We still have winter, but prey is never scarce, and we can play all day in the snow and not at all get cold," he told her. That was one of the bright sides of things, in his opinion.

Octavia turned her attention back to Acero to watch him as he spoke. Octavia dipped her head kindly towards Acero’s father, showing respect. “How did the young ones pass?” She asked Acero quietly. She glanced at Fang and smiled slightly. “That sounds like fun. This is all still so... terrifying” she admitted.

"With me," Fang said in response to the question. He looked down at Anna and Merida, roughhousing again on the ground, not having a care in the world. "The former Beta of the Fire Pack, Claw, I don’t know if you ever got to formally meet her. Acero, you would've... well, Claw attacked my family on our own territory. She was angry, and under orders to be rid of Shadow's Pups," he explained, voice heavy with grief. "These Pups are not mine, but because for a brief time I was Shadow's mate, they THOUGHT they were. The truth is that my dear Shadow had...another relationship only a couple weeks before she and I were mates. She gave birth during our time together, and though they’re not mine, I love them as if they were. Little Leo with the earth-dogs, I’m proud of him, and his sisters, Anna and Merida..."

Fang's mind flashed back to that awful day. Shadow's cry for help. Leo's warning bark. The flash of claws and feel of blood. The rush of fighting, then the pain of falling. Then there was the screaming. He shuddered with the memories that refused to leave his mind, almost two years later.

"Claw knew what happened. She was angered by mixed blood. She tried to kill the Pups, and I fought back. I’d never let her harm my family. Her or anyone else. Even so, these two little ones got it in their heads that it’d be a good idea to help fight, and it didn’t take much for an experienced Warrior like Claw to be rid of them. Leo fled into the forest, and by the time Shadow recovered from her shock enough to fight, it was already over. Anna and Merida seem well enough though. They like it here. Never have they known cold or hunger. Danger or sickness."

(Can Octavia have an adopted daughter? Like if a pup dies, could she take care of it?)

Octavia felt her heart ache for the male wolf, her eyes growing with sadness by the second. “I hope that wolf is with the Moon Dogs. Killing innocent pups is disgusting, and if we’re to find her, I’d put all my energy into making her pay for what she did to those little ones” Octavia grumbled, glancing at the young ones. She smiled at them, happy that they were away from any other pain and hardship. Her own heart ached more. “I... I can’t have my own pups” she realised, and tears welled in her eyes. She let out a sad sigh and turned back to Fang. “I’m... incredibly sorry about your loss. I know what it’s like to be torn away from family” she mumbled, and her mind thought back to the wolf that delivered the blow that killed her not long after. Her ears flattened to her head.

"Claw? I know she died, but I haven’t seen her. She did nothing but commit crimes in her life. She’s not the kind of wolf who would be given a second chance." Fang took a deep breath. "It’s alright though. Even if she showed her face here again someday, I’d love to tear her throat out for killing the little ones and separating Shadow from little Leo." Although the Pups were not his by birth, they'd still grown up thinking otherwise. "Even if it sent me to join the Moon Dogs myself." He tilted his head to one side when Octavia spoke again. "I...don’t know if it’s possible to have Pups up here. Even if you did, they would never grow up. They would simply remain youngsters. I mean...these two," he nodded towards the roughhousing Anna and Merida, "should look like grown ups now, but they don’t. Aging and weather aside...things seem to work here similarly to on earth." He perked up brightly after that. "Oh yeah, that and we can’t die. Even if a Moon Dog escapes and kills one of us, we just regenerate back here, in the meadow."

OCTAVIA sat facing Fang so that she could pay full attention to what he was saying. She didn’t want to see rude and disrespectful. She took a deep sigh and glanced at Fang, her face creased with sadness. “You’ve been through a lot. That sounds awful” she mumbled, hanging her head slightly. “Do you normally go down to visit Shadow?” She asked.

"I did for three months, but it looks like she’s moved on. I don’t even know if she realizes I’ve stopped coming altogether, but Anna and Merida are more important right now. Shadow...has two mates now, if I hear correctly," Fang noted. "She’s moved on, and that’s good. I guess it means...I should too." Despite his sad words, his eyes were clear.

OCTAVIA frowned slightly at the mention of two mates. “I know she has Ash, but who’s the other?” She asked, almost spitting out the sentence, hatred in her gaze and voice. “I can’t believe she moved on so quickly. And she killed her own brother. She doesn’t deserve even one mate” the young she wolf muttered.

Fang nodded towards a pool of water, touching it with his paw. An image of Shadow appeared, with a smaller, brown furred she-wolf with green eyes. "Her. She was a Fire Hunter once. You might’ve met her, known her as Everest," he explained. "I saw what happened, but I’ve also seen her heart. Shadow...has her heart in the right place. She cares for her Pack above all, and the young Pups always have a place in her heart. I’ve been watching her since Acero's death." He looked into the pool a moment longer, wistfulness coming across his eyes. Then he shook it off. "Given her behaviour and how...withdrawn she’s been with her Pack since, I daresay I can believe her words."

Acero's face was calm despite the fact of his own death having come into things. "My sister valued her family above all else," he explained. "She killed me, yes, but it was my own fault, not hers. She never in her life would consciously have targeted me. Though it surprises me she went in for a killing blow at all. Something must have truly enraged her." He shook his head. "Up here, things such as that don’t matter though, I reckon. What’s done is done."

OCTAVIA narrowed her eyes angrily at the ground, glaring down at her paws. Anger simmered around her heart but she tried to force in down. It swirled around in her chest and nearly burst out of her mouth. She forced it in. She shifted her body slightly, feeling very irritated. “I know for a fact that my sister did not loose her best friend and I did not DIE just to have everyone forgiven. Shadow knew everything she was doing when she killed Acero. She took a life. She was meant to kill my sister. Shadow knew the rules and yet she still attacked” Octavia muttered, feeling stressed. “She should never have done what she did. It must be nice to have excuses” she huffed under her breath. “Sure, she’s sad. She’s REGRETFUL” she added. “What’s dome is done” she echoed, and shook her head.
