She tilted her head, surprised at his sudden barrage of questions, not that she minded. She loved talking but only those who liked talking to her and she was more than happy to answer his questions. "I lived with a family that had 3 little ones and one older son. The little kids scared me though, always pulling on my ears and screaming at me, not that they meant to scare me, but i just couldn't stand it." she said, a little embarrassed to admit that some little kids scared her. "But, the older boy, Jake, was very kind to me so i spent most my time with him. I lost them a few weeks ago when we went camping and i lost my way trying to get back." she said, suddenly feeling melancholy and homesick. "As for it being better, i think it was. They didn't feed me dry kibble like some house dogs, they fed me this wet food with chunks of meat and vegetables in it, i always had a warm place to sleep and Jake took me on long walks and to the lake to swim, it was great. But, out here.." she said and looked around. "I never know when i'm going to find my next meal, i have to sleep on the hard ground in hopes no humans see me and chases me off, and i'm all alone." she said, looking back at Chance. she gave a small laugh, looking to the side and at the ground. "I probably sound like a spoiled pup, don't i?" she asked him. He said he had been born on the streets, which meant he was used to this life, and her explaining everything probably made her sound like a scared pup, unable to make it on her own. She had heard criticism like that from other dogs she had passed along the way, but that's how she was. She wasn't born a rough and strong dog of the streets, she was afraid of little kids for hecks sake! But maybe, with time, she could learn to be confident and learn to be self reliant.
