Jazz/14/Stallion/TB Appendix/Tags: Ylva
The cool, early morning breeze blew through the dark mane of a lone stallion by the creek. The blue roan stallion, named Jazz by his dame, moved towards the water hoping to quench his thirst. The creek was deeper than some in the area allowing the horse to move deep enough that the water covered his hocks. He lowered his dark black muzzle towards the water, allowing his tonged to roll out. Small little silver fish swam around his muzzle. The water was still cold from winter, not having adequate consistent warm temperatures to warm up again. The quiet peacefulness that surrounded Jazz was suddenly disrupted as he jerked his head back soon followed by his whole body as he sprung back, water sloshing everywhere around him. A large fish had come out of no where, snapping up the little fish that had previously been swimming around Jazz. The fish, though not serving any threat to the large stallion, had startled him. Calming down, the now wet stallion climbed the banks to the edge. He snorted at his silliness, but allowed his dark brown eyes to remain fixed as the large fish swam away looking for its next meal. Relaxing again, the stallion shivered as the cool morning breeze blew across his wet coat. Lifting his muzzle, the scent of several mares flooded his senses and his ears perked. Mares would be essential this season and Jazz had vowed to have a herd this year. His previous herd had been small and with the winter came their death. His single foal that season had perished in the icy depths of a lake after straying out on the ice in search of water. The fillies dame and his other mare had not found adequate food and could not obtain water. Eventually they had perished as well. The stallion had strayed away from the lake after that and now found himself here, where mare scent was plentiful but so was stallion. In the distance at the bottom of the mountain, the stallion dark eyes caught movement. The first concern was wolves or bears as they were plentiful in this part but upon further inspection it was a horse. Sniffing the air confirmed his suspisons of a mare. Taking off towards the tall peaks, his powerful dark legs propelled himself to the mare.
Rowena/10/Mare/QH Appaloosa/Tags; Cricket
Rowena had lived in these fields since the day she was foaled. The leopard appaloosa mare slowly picked her way through the tall wheat grass that had been her constant source of food through the winter. Though tough and brittle, the little mare had grown accustomed to it over the years. After grazing for a while, Rowena stopped as a predatorial scent filled her nose. A forest lay ahead of her, thick with tall oaks and pines. Gazing down at the dirt, Rowena noticed several imprints in the wet soil. Having seen a small fox earlier, the appaloosa had disregarded the original footprint back in the dirt. The ones she stared at now were large, with sharp claws; wolves, and beside the wolves where a pair hooves. Athena suddenly heard a loud, very frightened squeal from the darkness. Without thinking the little mare charged forward. Wolf packs were extremely dangerous for lone horses as just a single bit to the right place would end a horses life. Jumping over a fallen pine, Rowena came into a frightening scene of several large gray wolves, snapping a dapple gray mare. The leopard appaloosa reared up, letting her dark hooves slam against the nearest one, landing a surprise blow to its shoulder.
Aphrodite/14/Mare/Appaloosa Arab TB/Open
There was no greater word to describe Aphrodite except a drama queen. Her mother had named her Aphrodite because of her beautiful blanket coat, but soon her personality seemed to embody it as well. Getting dirty, getting too cold or hot, stallion fighting; the mare avoided all of that. Now that spring had come, flies emerged form their dormant state to torment her. The bay mare flicked her tail furiously, her agitation growing as a large horse fly landed on her speckled rump. Squealing frustration she darted forward, kicking out with her dark legs. Her agitation was further fueled by her deep heat which was being thrown around with her kicking and tail flicking. It was a wonder stallions weren't already swarming.
Corva/9/Mare/APH AQH/ Tags; Lucifer and Aspen
Alone was the way Corva had originally preferred it. During winter she had thrived alone, not having competition for food or resources and not having to nurse a foal. Spring however had changed all that. Her heat scent was driving her mad with desperation to find a stallion and to nurture a foal. The little paint was quiet beautiful with her unusually splashed coat. It was black and night except for her ghostly white face and her tall stockings. She had been grazing, her muzzle specifically selecting the thick patches to munch on. Gaining back the weight lost in the winter was essential if she wanted to carry a healthy foal to term. Corva had concieved once before. She had been excited for its arrival and had departed from the herd for its birth. The mare had returned alone. That was years ago when Corva had been a 3 year old maiden mare. Now that she had aged she was determined. A sudden stirring caughter her off guard as she raised her head. A black and white tobiano horse moved rather lazily from a near by stream towards the shade trees. Further inspection of scent revealed a stallion of some age by her guess. Corva let out a nicker of greating, hoping for a friendly stallion. She swished her tail, reveling a heat scent desperate for a foal. Another mare was near too also seeking attention but she looked much younger, probably a maiden.
Liberty/4/Mare/AQH APH/ Tags: Artax
Liberty was as young as she was naive. At just four years old, the little paint mare was entering her first heat season and had no idea what to expect. Currently she resided next to a large, very fast flowing river. Liberty avoided going in the water towards the center where the swift currents and deep depths would easily sweep her under. Instead she resided on the banks at the pools. Here the grass grew thick and lush with its plentiful supply of water an nutrients. Liberty's dame had foaled her near her four years ago and taught her about why this place was the best for winter. The grass still grew even in winter and the water never froze due to the swift movements. That was how the little paint had survived all these years. After her mothers passing, instead of moving on she stayed. While grazing on the thick patches, the little mare suddenly jerked her head up at the sound of movement. Noticing the scent and shape of a handsome red bay stallion, the mare squealed out a greeting not even thinking about any possible dangers.
Beauty/10/Mare/Clydesdale GV/Aurora and Open
Tall and beautiful, Beauty's name certainly suited her. She had been born to a majestic pure bred Clydesdale mare who had worked for the humans her whole life. Her sire had been a small but strong Gypsy Vanner stallion. Beauty had claimed almost all her mothers looks but her fathers height had shortened her. Now at the ripe age of ten, the mare had been lone for 7 years. She had temporarily resided in a herd from about 3 till she was 8 but the stallion that had sired her last foal had been killed, leaving the two alone again. Beauty gazed at her daughter who lingered no far from her in the sun. Her once black as night little filly had grown into a ghostly white mare. At the age of three, her daughter would be entering her first heat season and Beauty was excited to see what foals she would bring as well. The older mare let her forlegs bend as she lowered herself to the ground under the tall oaks to rest. Her eyes slowly drifted shut and dreams of future foals danced around her head.
Aurora/3/Mare/Clydesdale GV Percheron QH/ Open
Aurora flicked her tail as an unfamiliar scent drifted towards her nose. It was her own but unlike any she as familiar with. A heat scent is what her mother had described it. All Aurora knew was she wanted to find a stallion soon. The tall white mare stood watchfully next to her mother, studying her new scent. The air smelled of stallion but Aurora would leave her mother just yet. Maybe the two could find a suitor together. Letting out a sigh, she cocked her back hoof and allowed her head to lazily dip to the ground.
