To be honest, Thea had completely forgotten about the fact that she was being sent off to some castle today to find suitors. She was currently in her library, trying to find a book to read. She finally spotted the familiar spine of a worn, leather book. She pulled the book from the shelves and opened it to the first page. She loved the feeling of the crisp paper between her fingers and the smell of the ink. She was snapped out of her euphoric bliss by the call of her mother. Her eyes grew wide with realization.
She quickly began to grab her favorite books. She hadn't even packed yet! She hoped that her mother and father were at least on top of that. She stuffed the books into a leather satchel that crossed her body. She quickly descended from the ladder she was on and rushed down to the foyer. She noticed that her trunks were, in fact, there. She greeted her mother and father with an apologetic grin.
"Mother, Father." She nods her head. She purses her lips, the enormity of the situation hitting her. "Do you promise to write? Every month?" She had never been far from her parents, and wasn't sure what that'd be like. She hoped she would at least have some more time to explore the world. She had heard of the magnificent gardens and grand ballrooms of the castle.
"Of course, darling. Just as long as you promise us that you won't spend all your time in those books." Her mother says. Thea nods, and quickly hugs her mother and father. They were both so proud and stoic, Thea just hoped that she'd be as good of a ruler as them, one day.
She quickly hops in the carriage just outside the gates. As the sound of hoof beats carries her away, she waves her final goodbyes to her parents, and begins on the journey.
The ride was long, but scenic. Thea quickly realized that she was exhausted, and fell asleep. She was woken up when they had stopped. She looked outside. They were here! She nearly hops out of the carriage before it had come to a full stop. She had pushed passed the nerves, and breathed in fresh and fertile air. The castle before her was magnificent. She couldn't believe it. There had to be so many exciting things to do here! She noticed a village not far in the distance. She noted to herself that she should visit.
Guards on both of her sides lead her inside. She was never a very social person, but hopefully this experience would help her open up. There were people behind her who were towing her trunks in after her. She saw the bustling state of the castle. There were servants coming and going from each direction, preparing for there arrival, no doubt.
She is lead to her chambers, and gaped in awe. There was a foyer to her chambers, which lead into her bedroom. To the east was her bathroom, and to the west was her dressing room. The room was adorned with mahogany and gold detailing, the walls were made of fine and precise cut stone. They began to immediately unpack, one of the first things they unpacked, of course, being a bookshelf, and several trunks of books. She placed her favorites on her bedside table. There was her family portrait directly across from her bed, and many rugs and other furniture placed around the room. She was whisked into her dressing room, and changed out of her travel clothes into something more presentable.
She caught word of a feast tonight, to introduce the princes and princesses. That should be interesting. She thought. She had a bit of nervousness and anxiety in the pit of her stomach. She had to marry someone. For her people. She was no longer a child, and had to now think of adult matters: marriage being one of them.
