Lucy sighed and tossed the backpack into the Van. Why had she asked to drive? She didn’t know it had sounded good at the time. If she wasn’t driving she could have used this time to talk to Kayden about how to pick a pony more. As it was he had chosen to ride in the truck with Joe. She nodded and slipped into the barn it was empty of most of the horse one or two where indoors. Kayden sat on the tack room floor looking at the neat pile of brand new halters in all sizes they always had spare halters.
“Are you ready?” she asked.

“I guess..” He studied the lime green halter he had picked.

“We will do fine.. You’ll be awesome and pick good.” She said she looked at the halter, “That’s a nice halter. You packed the breakaway one to get on the pony right away.”

Kayden got up and crossed the tack room to the halter holder marked Kayden and Lucy’s challenge pony. He hung up the halter and turned back to her, “Yes I did. I’m going to go say good bye to Sophie again.” He said as he hurried away.

Lucy nodded as her brother hurried off. His cancer had left him with a fear that short times away could turn long. She sighed he was a fighter that’s for sure. She headed outside and leaned up against the van door.
Joe North,14, Horses Cheddar and Panda, Tags Open, Outside
Joe checked that the trailer was all set. Plugged in to the truck, attached to the hitch and that the tackroom door was locked. He tossed his bag in the van too. It was cool and dark out.
