James Henry Fletcher
[ twenty-three ] [ single] [ scottish ]

James continued to knead the dark airport carpet with his foot as he waited. He ran one hand over his short, black hair and scratched the back of his head. Then, he noticed someone else join the queue behind him. Just so that he could have something to do, he decided to try and strike up a conversation.
"A'right?" he asked. "We're gon' tae be 'ere a wee while," he added with another roll of his eyes and a charming flash of his teeth.
The black-haired man had his hands in his pockets as he rocked on the back of his heels to the balls of his feet as he continued to smile.

Kaytanah Dowling

Kaytanah looked up at the man who had begun talking to her. "Excuse me? Oh, right. Yeah, probably. These people are moving slower than my grandma." She smiled back, brushing her long hair behind her shoulders to pull it into a streamlined brown high ponytail, making it fall in a cascade down the middle of her back. "I'm Kayt. What's your name?" she asked. Even though she had learned all about 'stranger danger' in middle school, she was bored and needed to talk to someone for entertainment.

James chuckled at her comment on how slow the line was moving. 'She's prob'bly right,' he thought. 'I bet there's some auld biddy it the front ae the line.'
"I'm Kayt," she said, then asked him what his name was.
"I'm James, James Fletcher," he told her, feeling quite stupid since he was having a conversation with someone who was practically a kid. "Is yer Ma an' Da no 'ere?" James asked, guessing that she was about fourteen or fifteen. "Wee wans shouldnae be oot an' aboot by themsel'es."

Kayt's eyes flashed indignantly. "I'm not a wee one! I can make a grown man fall on his knees in front of me in pain if I want to. But no, they aren't. I'm meeting up with them in Wellington." She looked the man, James, over carefully. He was definitely Scottish, by his accent. He sounded very similar to the singer in the Scottish band she had just been listening to a few minutes ago. She straightened up so she was standing a bit taller, rather than slouching. Kayt wasn't a short girl, and didn't like to be considered small or weak.

James rolled his eyes; she sounded as arrogant and cocky as he did, although he didn't ever notice that in himself and only in others. "Aye, sure ye can," he said with a warm laugh.
He saw her straighten up and smirked. As the line shuffled along so did he. It had begun moving faster, obviously whatever was stopping it had been resolved and now they might actually get on the plane this year. There was only about half the amount of people left to go that there were when Kayt joined the line and James felt a lot less agitated since he had actually had some human contact instead of just being entertained by his own mind.

Laura sighed, grumbling at the long queue. Her feet hurt, and she shifted from one to another uncomfortably as she hung her heavy blue bag on her shoulder. Now she was beggining to think seriously about the advise her mum had given her: Don't take all those things, you won't need books, you won't need your computer, your bag will be too heavy.... She had been right. Laura held on to her passport as she nibbled her bottom lip nervously. She loved going in planes, but she had never done it alone before. Sighing, she walked forwards in the neverending line. Suddenly, pulled out from her thoughts, she saw a very tall girl, a year or two older than her by the looks of it, that was arguing with a man. She stood there a second, a bit too shy to come close, but when she saw that they were beggining to argue seriously she plucked up her courage.
"Why are you two fighting?" she said, standing on tiptoes to seem taller "I'm a little fed up with all the noise in the airport, you know. I live in the countryside, and all we can hear there is the sound of birds and wind. I have enough with all these people, let alone you two be arguing and shouting like that!"

James grunted. "We're barely shoutin'," he said. "An' I dinae much like gettin' tolt aff fae a bloody kid," he raised his voice slightly, just as a warning. Even he never told off people older than him, well never without getting a slap anyways. After a moment, when James had actually processed all of the words said to him, he started chuckling. "All we can hear is the sound of birds and wind," he mimicked in a mockingly high voice before laughing at it. "Welcome tae the city, wee wan. Get used tae it."

Kaytanah Dowling

I probably shouldn't prove that I can hurt people in the middle of the airport. At least my machete is in my checked baggage. Sensei Mike never showed me how to throw someone down when they are running towards you. Kayt thought, stepping forward with the line. Her pale green tank top and khaki cargo shorts went well with her Green Lantern converse shoes, which she always walked in proudly. She didn't care if others thought she was a geek. As the front of the line became visible, she shoved her sunglasses into her backpack and began concentrating on not flat-tiring James in her anticipation. When she heard another girl's voice, she turned and looked at her instead of James. "He thinks I'm too young to be traveling alone. And I'll fight all I want, thanks! Listen to music or something if I'm bothering you." Kayt snarked, getting a little testy with people hounding on her from two sides.

(it's because I have one, and this character is based off of me. It's a gift for her brother's birthday, and it's a weapon so it has to be in checked baggage. The fact that she's giving him the machete is really big for her, because she's not super generous, and he had wanted one like it after she got it and she decided to give it to him.)
