"dammit, Jack, let me go!" cursed Indigo, thrashing against his grip. The Irishman was still pressed up against the wall, looking terrified. "Captain," said Melody, meekly. "Captain, this is Gannet. He's letting us stay in his house." Indigo whipped her head around to glare at the quartermaster, who shrank away. This was saying something; Melody was no coward. When faced with the captain's wrath, though, she'd rather be meek than dead or worse. Breathing hard, Indigo wrenched herself free of Jack and pulled herself up to her full height, not quite able to meet the Irishman's eyes. She didn't apologize; in fact, the only thing she said to him was "Take off your shirt." "What?" the man replied, obviously confused. "Just do it!" snapped Indigo, clenching her fists. "Alright!" he snapped back, undoing the buttons and pulling it over his head. He twisted it between his big hands, and Indigo took a step back. "It is you," she breathed, laying eyes on the scars that ran from his left shoulder to just over his heart. They were flaring and dark, like old bullet wounds. But nobody survived something like that. "We pulled you out of the water," Indigo blubbered helplessly. "You died. We wrapped you up in sailcloth and tossed you back into the ocean with a chain... how can you still be alive?" Now the man's mouth fell open and he gasped, "You know me! Please, I beg of you, tell me who I was. I washed up on the beach here a year and a half back, memory completely gone. I named myself after the birds, but apart from a few nightmares, I couldn't..." He trailed off, pulling his shirt back over his head and not continuing from where he had stopped. Stepping forwards carefully, Indigo murmured, "Patrick O'Hara, quartermaster and cook on the Maiden. You're a pirate, boy. You're one of us. And you're dead."
