Melody poked her head into the door and caught the end of Jack's sentence; to it she added, "You're to come as well, Emerald." Her voice was shaky, although she wouldn't admit to fear. "And Ingo. We need to go right now." She stood awkwardly in the doorway, obviously wanting to get started as soon as possible. There seemed to be a good amount of hesitation, though, as if she were afraid of what they might find. That was the truth of it; she didn't know what she would do or think if she found their navigator dead. She owed Sonja her life; if she had failed to repay her debt, who knew what might happen. Nervously, she unwound her scarf and tied up her red hair, then let it down and wound it around her arms as a shawl, then finally settled on using it as a sash.

Jack turned around once more, letting his gaze rest on Melody gently. With a small nod, he stepped to the side so that Emerald could walk past him if she wanted to go and help find Sonja. He had noticed the shaky tone and walked over to her, resting his hands on her shoulders. "Don't you worry, Melody. I'll come with you, if it'll help. More eyes will enable us to find Sonja quicker." He said softly with a small smile, swallowing after he finished to try and rid himself of that lump in his throat. Sonja was more than just a Navigator - Jack respected her beyond her position, and he was determained to find her.

Emerald froze, her eyes wide and she felt as if the breath has been knocked out of her. "What? No this...what?" she said in disbelief. She exhaled the breath she didn't know she had and then narrowed her eyes. She didn't trust Tessa Rose. Not one bit. She nodded to Jack as he stepped out of the way and she quickly walked outside. "Maybe Tessa left a blood trail we could follow." she said, looking at the ground and not realizing Jack and Melody were sharing a moment.

"That would be good," replied Melody with a smile that was more confident than she felt. "Thank you. Emerald?" She glanced at the lookout and then turned to leave the house, hoping harder than she had ever hoped for anything that she would find the navigator alive. Even if she was badly wounded, it would still leave room to hope.

Liam glanced at Tessa-Rose every once in a while as the wagon rattled on, making sure that she hadn't fallen unconscious. When they reached the town Gannet tied up the horses and jumped down from the wagon, standing awkwardly by as Liam got out and picked the gunner up gently. The farmer followed the blacksmith into the sickbay, and spoke to one of the nurses who worked there. "She's one of the pirates," he said, and the woman frowned deeply. "Put her in ward two with the other one, then." Gannet nodded and glanced at Liam, who had heard. He brought Tessa-Rose in and laid her down on the bed next to Indigo, who stirred as if she had been sleeping. The stump where her arm had been was covered in bandages, and she wasn't as pale as she had been when she first arrived. "Hey," she said, quietly, eyes still mostly closed. "Liam, is that you? And..." She glanced at Gannet, frowning. "Oh. I suppose we're all dead, then?" Gannet's eyebrows snapped together as though he were considering her question. "No," said Liam with a smile, touching the captain's shoulder. "We're alive. Me, you, and Gannet here." Indigo looked at him, then at the farmer. "Gannet? Oh. I could have sworn... but he's long dead." She smiled slightly and sank back into slumber. "We'd best leave her alone," said Gannet quietly. "And the nurses will take good care of your gunner, I'm sure of it." He was still frowning slightly, as though he had a headache.

Jack gave the women a smile and looked at Emerald. "It's a lot to take in, I know. You can come if you want, although I doubt that there will be no blood. With the sight of Tessa, there has to be some." He really didn't like talking about blood. Maybe he was trying to convince himself that everything would be fine, he couldn't be sure. The cook gave another, smaller, nod and started to follow Melody, increasing his pace until he was walking beside her.

Tessa stayed quiet for the rest of the journey and until she was settled in the hospital bed. Much comfier than the floor. She mused silently, wincing as sharp pain shot up her arm. The gunner let her head fall back on the pillow, looking up at the form of Liam. "Thank you." She whispered in a croaky voice, and turned her head slowly to look at Gannet. "Thank you too." She was a little bit thankful, but she couldn't wait until the moment when they found out that Sonja was dead.

"Maybe?" answered Melody, glancing at Emerald uncertainly. She knew very, very little about how things like this worked on land. On a ship, if someone died, everyone knew about it almost right away. There wouldn't be a blood trail because of the water, but there was a... a feeling. Everyone felt it, like a shiver that passed through the entire group. Melody was getting a shiver like that now, but it was less potent than it had been when the captain had been injured. "But I'm sure Sonja will be alright," she said determinedly, trying to force cheerfulness and nonchalance into her voice.

Jack looked sideways at Melody, a pang pulling at his heart. She was young. She didn't need all this drama yet. She needed to live out her life a little first. Oh, shut it. You were her age when you lost your parents, idiot. You were fine. And Melody will be fine too. So will Emerald. A voice in his head hissed, and he shook it away, even though he knew it was right. "I wouldn't be supprised if she did. She was bleeding a lot, so there should be a trail for us to follow. I suggest we look for any traces of one first." He whispered, not sure if it was right to talk loud. The whole situation felt wrong, somehow, like it had been planned.

Emerald nodded and scouted the area, her eyebrows furrowed in concentration. It didn't take long to find the first spec of blood. "Here!" she shouted excitedly. She knelt down in the grass the look at it closer. She rubbed her fingers on the grass and looked at her hand. Barely any blood came off. "It's dry." she said. It had been long enough already. If the blood had dried a lot already, who knows how much blood Sonja could of lost? She sighed and looked around the area for more blood.

Melody knelt down where Emerald was standing, and peered at the blood on the grass. She plucked one of the blades and sniffed it, then dropped it and sniffed the air instead. "I think... this way?" A hint of salt lay in the air in the direction she took, but there nothing out here except a field filled with tall weeds. Some of the dirt was churned up, but she didn't know what that meant. "Any ideas?" she asked aloud, then pointed at the ground to clarify. "Emerald? Jack?"
