Tessa turned her head to the side, locking her gaze onto the form of Sonja. Anger boiled just below the surface, and all Tessa wanted to do was wrap her hands around the navigator's neck. But, alas, she couldn't do that. Not to mention the others, and it would seem unprevoked. No, she had to have a reason, a clear reason. That, or she could wait until they were out on the fields and make it seem like it was a accident....
As her thoughts whirled around her head, Tessa took another, more visious bite from the skillydough, chewing quickly and swallowing. She needed to.... Remove Sonja from the picture. All she did was look down her nose at eveyone else in lower rank.

Sonja laughed when Emerald came in and spoke, then picked up the plate of potatoes and passed it across to the lookout. "Eat up," she said with a grin. "We'll be working hard today." She wouldn't readily admit it, but it was nice to have rock and soil beneath her feet again. She liked the ocean well enough, but farmlands were like a second home to her. She would have to ask Jack if it were possible to grow an herb garden of sorts at sea; just a little bit of living greenery would do her a world of good. It might even help the crew's morale, and it would certainly be useful for Betty and Jack. A good cook could do wonders with the right spices; so could a well-trained medic, like Betty.

Emerald laughed and brought the plate closer to her. She started hungrily on the potatoes. When she took the first bite her eyes went wide and she smiled. "Oh my gosh I haven't had potatoes this fresh since I got on the boat!" she said after she had swallowed. She slowly ate, savoring every bite.

Sonja laughed and nodded, then finished the last of her own breakfast and stood up, holding her plate. "Should I wash this?" she asked Gannet's grandmother. The woman nodded and pointed to a bucket of water that sat next to the stove. Then she sat herself down at the head of the table and started her own meal. Sonja squeeze her way between Jack and Melody, who had been sitting on either side, and went over to the counter. She scrubbed grease from the meat off of it and then wiped it dry with a cloth before setting the plate on the counter. She didn't know where to put it, otherwise she would have returned it to the cupboard. She watched the rest of the crew eat for a few moments, then decided that she needed a breath of fresh air. Turning, she stepped back through the front room, pausing only to pull on her boots. Then she opened the door and walked out into the morning sunlight. A breeze blew across her face, bringing not the scent of saltwater but rather the smell of rich farmland. Bending over, she yanked her boots off again and set them beside the door. She rolled up the legs of her trousers to her knees and set off through the nearest field, loving the feel of cool dirt between her toes. How long had it been since she had felt that? Months- maybe even a year. It was wonderful.

Ryder looked around the table once more before taking a bite of the food. His face immediately lit up- it wasn't all the bad. He smirked slightly and ate up almost all of his potatoes in two bites. The young man licked his lips and watched as Sonya left. Taking a bite of the skillydough, he sighed quietly, all his thoughts of farming gone.

Jack watched as his crew mates ate the food, having himself finished just after Sonja. The cook leaned back in the chair, lacing his fingers behind his head as his mercury eyes, letting these eyes flutter closed for a couple of moments before he abruptly sat up, picking up his plate and moving around the small room, weaving around Melody. Once he reached the counter, he dipped the plate in the still-warm water, picking up the sodden rag and rubbing it on the plate. Due to being a cook, he was used to this and had his place clean quite quickly.

Tessa's eyes lit up as she watched the navigator leave the room. Perfect. She reflected, following Jack and cleaning her plate. She was feeling rather full now that she had eaten a good, large meal. Nodding to Jack as he took her plate, the gunner walked after Sonja, pausing to watch the navigator as she removed her boots. Tessa prefered to keep her's on. Shaking herself from her thoughts, she jogged after her.
"Sonja!"

As she turned upon hearing her name, Sonja spotted Tessa-Rose jogging towards her and waved jovially. She stopped and stuck her hands into her pockets, waiting for the gunner to catch up. She didn't want to shout and disrupt the peaceful morning; instead, she turned her face up so that the sunlight could play across it. The day was just beginning; it was cool now, but in a few hours the sunlight would grow stronger and the whole land would heat up. She couldn't wait to start working, although she knew that it would be a good deal harder than the ship work that she was used to.

Tessa reached the navigator's side and smiled warmly. Might as well play it nice. She decided silently, brushing a dreadlock away over her shoulder.
"I'm sorry about yesterday. I was frustrated and wanted to get moving. Everything just sort-of built up, and I bottled it up." She lied easily, hoping that she sounded convincing. Well, she herself thought she did. Looking across in the direction Sonja was looking in, she continued to smile. If she could make it look like an accident...

Emerald finished up quickly despite trying to savor the food. She was too hungry to. She got up, handed her plate to Jack, and walked back into the room where she had been sleeping. All her movements were slow and lazy. Her belly was full and a content smile played across her lips. She gave a small burp and giggled to herself as she laid down. "Oops." she said to herself. Just a few more moments of sleep wouldn't hurt anybody, right? And everybody wasn't finished eating yet. She closed her eyes and adjusted herself to get comfortable on the small rug in the middle of the room. As she started to feel herself fall asleep she felt slightly guilty. Everybody else was awake and going out to work soon, she couldn't hide out and sleep, even if it was for just a few more moments. And besides, getting out, working, and stretching her legs would be good. Who knew how much longer until they would be at sea again? She sighed and slowly got up, stretched and yawned, and headed out the back door the way she saw Sonja and Tessa go out.

"Ah, ya know," replied Sonja with a shrug and a forgiving smile. "Life goes on. I was worried abou' the captain, her lookin' so bad like she did." The navigator dug one foot into the soft, dark soil and smiled. "Grew up on a farm jus' like this," she said, flashing back in her own mind to the days before she went to sea. When she was a simple farmer's daughter. She hadn't felt nostalgia before; it was a painful ache for things to be like they had been. She didn't like the feeling very much. "What about you?" she asked the gunner, trying to escape from her own sad thoughts. "I don't think I've ever asked where you grew up."
