Emerald walked with Rebecca but paled slightly. Was Chris lost? Or worse, taken? She gulped. "We have to find him." she muttered to herself. Not an hour ago she had vowed to herself she was protect them with her life, and now look. She was failing again. She would not let anything happen to anybody in the Hood. She remounted Envy. "We've got to find him. Now." she said more loudly, addressing Rebecca before riding down the ramp. "Chris!" she called loudly.

Upon not hearing Chris call back to her she started to panic more, though she kept herself calm and collected. She thought she heard something up in the tree ahead. Was it Chris? With a burning hope that it was, she dismounted and hurriedly climbed up the tree. A few times her fingers or feet hit patches of ice on the branches and she slipped. But she recovered and kept climbing. "Chris!" she called again. "Chris!"

Chris heard Emerald calling to him and watched his kidnapper's crouched form through the leaves, wondering how he would react. There was no movement. Gathering his bravery, Chris worked his tongue around the gag in his mouth and shoved against it, biting and tearing quietly. The man couldn't carry out his threat to kill everyone if Emerald was awake. Then Chris noticed that the man had a crossbow with him and had it aimed down through the leaves towards Emerald. He was too far away to get a good shot, but as Chris watched he crept farther along the branch and appeared to prepare himself to jump to the next tree. Chris chewed harder, rapidly, panic swelling in him. When a chunk of gag was gone, he cough and yelled around the fabric to Emerald. "Get out of here! Go find Arowin! I'll be fine! I'll-" the man was back, his cold eyes glinting with fury, his crossbow aimed at Chris's head. Chris swallowed hard, and allowed the man to tie a fresh gag on him.

Sam was waiting. Though the boy Chris's shouting was disturbing and loud, the others would never be able to find or reach them. They were safe. Actually, a distraction would work nicely, so he could see if he could find their leader. Apparently, she was gone. They would wait until she was back.

Prince Stephan heard a weak shout and jumped, ducking behind the boulder. A man's voice, coming from high above them, and far away as well. A flash of the man in the woods appeared to Prince Stephan and he shivered, sneaking over to Rebecca when Emerald's back was turned and taking her sleeve. "Thank you," he said softly, his lips accidentally brushing her ear in his attempt to stay silent. "But I can't leave yet. I- I need to find out more about the Hood. I swear to you that I will never repeat the information to anybody. It is for my curiosity only. Can we speak again?" Without waiting for an answer, he locked eyes with her and turned and hurried back into the cave.

Emerald gave a quick sigh in relief. Chris was alive. The word nearly brought her to tears. Nothing seemed alive anymore. "No!" she called up to him. Arrowin was too far away for all she knew and if she was gone, who would watch the Hood? Sure there was Frank and Rebecca, but she only trusted herself for this job. She couldn't leave Chris alone with his captive. No way. Emerald started climbing up again towards the sound of his voice. She heard the sound of shuffling feet above but couldn't find them. "D*mn it!" she muttered. She had gotten this far, no turning back now. So she waited as the shuffling continued overhead as the man made it's way over to Chris. A small dusting of snow fell from the branch they were on and Emerald grinned. "Gotcha." she eagerly started to climb again after pulling a dagger from her belt. She quickly made her way up the branches, working her way far above Chris and his captor to make them think she had no idea where they were. Time to put her plan to action.
