"It says, Captain Marx, the captain feared by many. I'm sorry to have offended you, I didn't know you were once a slave." Alexa said. She handed the dagger back. "You know, I that was the first dagger I ever used, I remember it well. Nice for shifting and fast lunges." she said.

Tess bobbed her head respectfully and almost fearfully too. "Miss Liza bought me off of a rich slave trader. I owe her my life for this," she said reverently as she took the dagger back. "You... you've used this before?" She stared down at the dagger in confusion. Her old master must have stolen it from this Captain Marx at one point or another.

"Yes. I have my own now. Liza is kind, she would do it for anyone." Alexa said. She smiled at Tess, wanting her to know that she wasn't mean. She looked overthr ocean.

[Falls]

Tess cast her gaze towards where Alexa was looking as she tucked her dagger back into her belt and leaned against the railing once more. "So..." She began, not quite sure how to make conversation. "You know about about my routes, so where did you come from?" She gave a nervous smile, encouraged by Alexa's friendliness so far.

Alexa turned to Tess. "I was one of those rich girls. I had parties, money, and boys. We had a party, Cap'n Marx came, took me. I started as a slave on his ship, then worked my way up. Theiving in the night, practicing my sword fighting below deck when everyone was above. I was his first mate before he retired. he came to see me as a daughter. At first, I was just a slave girl. He retired a few years after and I was left mwith no one. On the port, back were Liza found you. I was just a poor girl, stealing money and food. The Liza found me and knew immediatly that I was pirate material. We have shared this ship for 8 years now." Alexa said. She recalled all the memories of her captain, they were good ones.

Xaria looked out at the sea, leaning against the wood of the boat. She had no idea what to do and had had, so far, no instructions. She had just taken to watching the rest of the crew but since everyone seemed to be just talking, she had turned to watch the glittering ocean.

Tess heard the word "slave" and immediately identified with Alexa. Here was someone who knew what kind of stuff she'd been through. "But I don't get it. You talk of this Captain Marx with fondness, but he took you from your rich life and made you a slave at first. You don't resent him for this?"
