Darius fought bravely, lashing out with his sword to the keep the guard at bay. Then, somehow, he managed to lock the hit of his blade around the guard's sword and draw him close. He reared back, preparing to thrust his sword through the guard stomach, but suddenly felt a searing pain and then a dull ache in his chest. He looked down and gasped, breath bubbling in his throat. The guard's hand, holding Sinbad's bloody dagger, was stuck into his chest. The glistening hilt of the dagger remained even after the guard drew away, still holding his sword. Darius staggered back a pace, dropping his own blade, hand going to the dagger hilt embedded between his ribs. He dropped to one knee, then fell to the side, blood pooling beneath him.

[Anomaly]

Sinbad's eyes widened as he slit the guard's throat and went over to Darius. "I'm so sorry." He laid Darius down. He didn't know what to do. If he pulled the dagger, it would be worse.

"Don't be," bubbled Darius. "But... tell Sonja..." He tried to take a deep breath, and felt a creeping chill covering him, like a shroud of mist. He suddenly knew what to say, as if in his last moments the perfect words were made clear. "Tell Sonja... I love her." His eyes looked over Sinbad's shoulder at nothing, and he smiled slightly, blood on his lips. "Mum?" he whispered, seeming to see his mother. "I thought... you were... dead." Darius' eyes hazed over and with a last sigh he went completely limp, head lolling back so that his open eyes stared unseeingly at the sky above.

[Anomaly]

Sinbad grounded his head, bowing his head. "I will..." He gently closed the eyes of Darius and shook his head. Sonja didn't deserve this. He pulled out the dagger and picked up Darius. He knew a proper burial. He went to the pier and muttered a few prayers. "Thank you for saving my life friend. I hope it was for the best of it." He tossed Darius in and watched him float away. He dighed and put the dagger away. He went to the blacksmith and tapped it.

From the back of the shop a loud noise was emanating, like metal being struck with a hammer. Indigo was sitting in the front room when a tall man came up with a dagger and rapped on the door. She glanced at him through the window, then opened the door. "Welcome to Raven's Loft Armory," she said. "If that dagger needs repairing, I'm sorry, the blacksmith and his brother are both away." From the back the hammering stopped and Sonja's voice called, "Indy? Is that Sinbad?" Indigo turned her head and raised an eyebrow at the man, obviously expecting him to answer the question."

[Anomaly]

"Yeah. It's Sinbad." Sinbad's eyes were full of guilt and bad news. He looked at Indigo, hiding his bloody hands.

"Well, send him back!" called Sonja, beginning to hammer away at the blade again. It was red hot, almost white, and sizzling as sweat dripped onto it. Sonja had traded her tunic for a shirt that was far shorter, exposing lean stomach muscles and the bandages that swathed her ribs. The hammering might have sounded like a funeral march, or the drumroll that leads one to the gallows.
Tank, tink, tank, tink, tank, tank, tink...

[Anomaly]

Sinbad bit his lip and went past Indigo. He didn't know what he was going to tell Sonja other than Darius's message. And where he buried him. For the rest of his days. "Sonja..."

"Hey," said Sonja with a bright smile, pausing in her work to look up at Sinbad. "I suppose Darius needed rescuing again- he's the blacksmith here, but Liam's the one who really knows his swordplay." She glanced past Sinbad to the main room, but didn't see Darius. "Where exactly is he, anyways?"

Sinbad sighed slightly. He trailed a finger over and scar over his eye. "He's not coming back, Sonja. He said one thing. "I love you."" Sinbad looked at her.
