The low and tiresome moan of the cows awoke me from my slumber. Just like any normal day, they wanted to be fed. I gradually managed to sit up in bed, my head throbbing from a poor sleep and horrible migraine I had. Wow, the world certainly hated me today!
I perched myself on my knees on the bed and peered out of the window. As my room was at the back of our house, and at the back of District 10 for that matter, I could see out into the fields beyond.
And in the field directly outside our house, there was a herd of cows. As this is District 10 we are talking about, it is normal to own livestock and animals for farming and all that. But these cows, I swear, they don't like me or something. They wake me up early to be fed, want to eat all the time. All of them don't like me, except for one.
Normally cows are black and white, right? Well, that is dairy cows like mine, but the one that actually likes me is brown and white. I called her Ellyn. She was always smaller than all the others in the herd and gentler. Like me. So, me and her were good friends. I can pet her without being kicked off.

I was now out in the cow field, feeding all of these creatures, humming while I did. It then struck me like lightning.
It was the day of the Reaping! How could I have forgotten so easily?!
At that point I had stopped feeding and petting Ellyn and was now staring somewhere far away. My sister, Dawn, was only 4 years old, so she wouldn't be picked for The Hunger Games just yet. Callyum was 18 at the moment, so this was his last year in there and then he would be safe forever. But Callyum never took out Tesserae, so he would practically be safe.
Jerome was 16 at the moment and he always took out Tesserae for all the family so... He would be entered 9 times, I think.
I always took out Tesserae and I would be entered, 7 times, I think.

This would be a great day.
