Sonja picked up her little cousin, then said sadly, "What will we do with Marcus? He's so young... I don't want to take him out to sea, but it would be awful for him to end up in an orphanage."

"My grandfather. We can leave Marcus with him." Rose said smiling. "We would have to take Marcus away from here of course. But my grandfather has an island with a house on it. There is plenty of food and water. There is even a small village for trading." Rose was excited at her thought.

Sonja hugged her young cousin close, biting her lip in worry. "Well," she said at last, "It's better than leaving him here. Much better." She looked down at her Aunt, who was still lying on the floor, then back towards the bedroom. "Come on," she said bitterly, walking out of the bakery. She took the battered door and placed it back on its hinges, then grabbed a hammer and nailed it shut. It was sloppy work, but nobody would be going in for a while anyways. She picked up Marcus and headed back towards the dock at a run.

John sat in a small alley.

Ingo sat down relaxed, then her body tensed up, her face clenched, she heard the screams. Ingo held on to the edges of the entrance, kicked the door open and flipped out. She had no idea who was causing the screams but Ingo vowed to kill them, she noticed the bakery door had bveen kicked in and that William's ship hadn't left port yet. She knew almost instantly that it was William and he was seeking revenge. Ingo slumped down on to the floor, she had loved a cruel man for so long, he had had a heart of gold but now his mind was spiteful. Ingo cried.

Sonja came up to the gallows and saw Ingo sitting, crying. She held Marcus tighter and rushed over, asking quickly, "Are you alright? Has anything happened-" she stopped for a moment, then asked, "Has William been here?" She hoped fervently that nobody had been hurt- and it was then that she vowed to change her way of life. No longer would she be a recluse, hiding beneath the gallows. It was noble work- she saved many of her people from death by hanging- but it was not enough. People she loved had died. She had to kill William before he killed anyone else. Ingo, or... The girl shivered. He's seen me speaking with Darius before. He knows my face. Sitting carefully beside Ingo, she held her little cousin tightly to her chest and tried to blink back the tears that were welling in her eyes. They weren't tears of sadness- not really. Her eyes filled because the man and woman who had raised her had been killed, and she had been powerless to help them. The girl was wrestling with a strange emotion that she didn't quite understand- it was a feeling of inadequacy, of failure. It scared her almost witless to know that she had been unable to control what had happened.

Rose couldn't stand to see Sonja like this. She dropped through the trap door and got Liza. She pulled Liza up.

Liza saw Sonja and the small child. "What happened Sabre??" she asked sitting next to her.

Sonja looked up at the captain who was standing over her. "This is what's left of my family, Liza." she said plainly. "My parents have long since died, and today I saw my uncle hanged. I saw my aunt shot to death, and my baby cousin killed in her crib." She hung her head, tears running down her cheeks and wetting the front of her white shirt. "It's awful," she said quietly. "To see them you love, buried in the back garden, or lying dead on the floor. Marcus was still trying to wake her up- he's too young to know that Jocelyn's never coming back."

Liza put her hand on Sonja's back. "I know exactly what you mean... it can only get better from here." she said. She looked at Marcus. "What's your name little one?"
