As they made their way up the porch, the two boys never looked away, staring at them intently. Alex stared back and pushed open the door. The sound of loud screaming and yelling immediately escaped from the room and he was bombarded by three other boys. They yelled a lot of things at him at the same time but he was able to understand what each one was saying. He didn't reply but continued on. They shouted some other things and left the house, slamming the door shut. The house was clean, decorated simply with a few abstract pictures and flower vases. A tight frown was plastered on Alex's face as they traveled from the front to the back of the house. People were surrounding a door, some worried, some saying insults like 'stupid', 'mental', or 'insane'. Making sure Sophie was behind him, he slowly opened the door. The room was painted a bright yellow and decorated with zoo animals. There was a small bed and a toy chest but that was it. No TV, not even a window. Alex whispered to Sophie, "Don't get too close." He let go of her hand, easing forward. There was a girl, yelling and throwing toys everywhere, some breaking, and some bouncing back and hitting her. Through her small blue shirt, her stomach was tucked in and her ribs stuck out. She had bruises and wounds all over her arms and legs.

Sophie walked in she was about to say something to the boys but didnt she looked down at the girl and gasped she pulled Alex back looked at him "be carefull too" she said and ksised his lightly he looked down at the girl at her arms and legs seh now the pain she was in, she had that pain so many times "maybe i can help" she said solfty she slowly walked over tot he girl smilign "hey there" she said kneeing down to her level "what you doing with all the toys there, dont you want to toy with them?" she asked softly not wanting to scare her to wanted to her she rolled up ehr sleeves shwoing her to scars also the bruises and other scars on ehr arm from glass

The girl sniffled, frantically stepping back, standing on her toy box. She stared at Sophie with tear field eyes and at the sight of her scars, she seemed to calm down. Her hair was matted and tangled and her eyes were red with tears. She got off of the toy box and slowly walked up to Sohpie, pulling up the sleeve of her shirt and showing her arm. "It hurts." She sniffled, a few cries escaping her mouth. Alex walked in, kneeling down beside them.
"This is Rosary." He said to Sophie. The girl just continued staring at the scars, sniffling occasionally.

Sophei nodded "i know..." she said she leaved up ehr top showing her also showing ribs and the hand mark "i knwo just how you feel" she said she wrapped the end of her top around her finger and wiped away the tears "shh...its ok" she looked over at Alex then back at the girl "would you liek to tell em whats the matter" she asked softly

Rosary looked down momentarily and then at the door. The family's faces crowded the opening, staring in shock. Some flashed mock smiles. She started breathing heavier, until tears started flowing again. "I'm not theirs. We're not theirs." She looked at Alexander. She clenched her fists, putting a hand on her stomach. She knelt down in a fetal position, clenching the side of her head with her hands. Alexander gently patted her head. He turned towards the door, glaring at those observing. "I'm not home." She whispered.

Sophie hugged her "shh..its ok, you want to come with me" she asked softly just wanting her to be safe and not in pain no more "i will take you somewhere safe, and loved Alex wil be there too i promise" she held her close

"And we're not waiting." Alex stood up, grabbing her toy box by its handles and turning towards the door. "Move." He said simply. When no one moved an inch, he growled. "Move!" He began walking forward shoving them out the way. From the front door he went to the backyard and to the garage. Opening it, there were a line of different cars. Choosing a random one, he pushed the box into the car and grabbed the keys, pulling it to the front. Rosary nodded, her eyes still squeezed shut.

Sohie carried her holding her close "its ok, would you like to have a bath, then you can get into some clean clothes then you can get to sleep in a warm bed, does that sound nice?" she asked getting ino the car she looked over at Alex "drive to the school" she said softly

Rosary nodded and about time they had begun driving, she had drifted off to sleep. The left side of Alex's face was a dark purple, slightly swollen. He lay his head on the window to cool the bruise down and drove carefully, not wanting to wake up the little one. "All that was unexpected." He said softly, stopping at a red light.
