"It's me." Ella said. "I'll find the keys and let you out." she said. "Alexa is gonna come in here to give more food. But a bunch of pillows and sheets under the blanket so it'll look like I'm still in there." she said urgently. "I'll get you out as soon as I can." she said.

"Okay," said Patric, scooting away from the door to do as he asked. He grabbed a pillow, then remembered something and scuttled back to the keyhole. "Hey, Ella?"

"Yeah?" Ella asked. She was about to turn away, but waited for his answer.

Patric put a hand up to the door, palm on the course wood, fingers spread out. "In case you get killed," he said. "I love you."

Ella stood back, shocked. "I won't get killed." she said. She stayed there out of shock.

"Promise?" said Patric with a small grin. He could just imagine the look on her face- he made a look of stunned silence to amuse himself, and chuckled. "Actually, don't do that. If you die, I don't want you to feel bad about it." He turned around and started stuffing pillows under the sheets. "Go," he hissed, hearing footsteps in the cabin next to his. The captain's quarters. "She's awake!"

"I promise." Ella said before running down the hall and up the stairs. She hid behind a barrel on deck where she could see, but couldn't he seen.

Alexa walked out of the quarters and went up to the deck. She was hungry.

Ella watched as Alexa came up the stairs. She heard no jingling and there were no bumps in her pockets. The keys were in the cabin.

Patric stuffed more pillows under the sheets, then grinned mischievously. He didn't feel bad about what he did next. Taking a stick of charcoal from the now-dead fire, the redhead traced several thin lines on one of the pillows to make it seem like a few strands of Ella's black hair were poking out from beneath the sheets. His grin broadened as he peeled back the sheet and deftly drew a pair of eyes, a small nose, and a thin sleeping mouth on one of the pillows. Then, quickly, he traced a ridiculous french mustache. He pulled the covers back up and placed the stick back into the fireplace.

Once the door to the kitchen was closed, Ella stood up and ran quietly downstairs. She ran hastily into Alexa's cabin and stopped. She didn't know where the captain would keep the keys. She started rummaging through drawers. She finally found them and went next door. She sshoved a key into the lock and turned it. She opened the door and walked to Patric. "I don't break promises." she said, tossing the keys on the bed.
