- Nathan raised an eyebrow as Matthew approached before snorting. "Doesn't count if it's not a lady," Nathan responded genially, a sleepy and bored sort of grin on his face. He shrugged easily as Matthew suggested a real smack-down, saying, "Sorry, I don't really do fights. Physical ones, that is."
He was probably coming across as a coward and not overly manly, but Nathan liked to play smart. He was a total wuss compared to these guys, although it wasn't like he was without muscle. It was just that in a purely physical fight he'd fail. It was just how it was. Besides, Nathan enjoyed more intellectual fights than ones where you roll around in the dirt for a while. It was rather degrading, actually, to do such a thing. And if he was going to lose...well, there went his legitimacy. Between turning down a fight and losing one, Nathan would take turning it down.
With some amusement Nathan watched Jace stalk off to whatever crevice he was from and Matthew stepping away, as did Lidia and Rose. Well that was fun. Smiling and humming an aimless tune, Nathan slunk after the other stragglers to join the school in the gymnasium for the announcements. Seeing that most of the seats were filled and all of the available ones were next to the people he hated, Nathan settled for leaning against the door frame, watching the crowd and podium patiently.
