The Champion Roller Maze Race (Accepting!)

Postby Consulting_Angel » Sat Feb 15, 2025 11:48 am

I cannot think of a better title lol

Welcome to the Championship Races. Whether you've already competed or this is your first time, you're in for a week of tough competition, extra training, and intense rivalries. Friendships can become fragile, but new bonds can become equally forged. All that really matters, though, is making it through the heats and into the final race.

In this competition, four pairs of competitors skate their way through a maze of obstacles - ramps, near-vertical slopes, hurdles and more - in which they make two laps of, before crossing the finish line. Both members of the pair have to make it across the finish line. The layout of the maze is changed for each round, and is entirely a surprise until the race starts. Any foul play such as tripping a competitor and you're out, but plays such as pushing and blocking are valid.
There are four starting heats, the first two teams that cross the finish line in each make it to the second round. The second round of heats takes place a couple of days after, and has two races, again the first two teams from each making it to the final race - which also takes place a couple of days after the second round.
Competitors can enter as pairs before they arrive, or they can pair up on the day. When racing, one of two methods are typical - either the pair skates separately, or one holds onto the back of the other (otherwise known as 'the leader') and they skate together. Both have their pros and cons. Partner changes are uncommon, but are allowed between rounds - but only with competitors that made it to the round that the change is taking place, with the exception of injuries or illness.

So - hope you're ready, because the countdown is about to start...

Character Roles

Postby Consulting_Angel » Sat Feb 15, 2025 11:49 am

You may have up to three characters. PM to reserve, all characters to go in the discussion thread.
If the roles fill up, I will add more, so feel free to suggest titles/character types when there's only a couple left.

The Underdog
Underestimated and overlooked,
no one really expected them to
make it to the Championships.
But with so many other, more
predominant competitors, will
they even make it to the final race?

Jimmy Himinez | Spiritstar3

The Rising Star
This is their first year in the
Championships, and has quickly
become well known in the skating
community. They are slated to place
high, and doesn't let themselves get
pushed around.

Name | User

The Reigning Champion
As their title states - they are the
current reigning champion and the
favourite to win again. They are tough,
agile and strong. Anyone would be
lucky to partner up with them,
especially after their previous was
forced to drop out this year due to
an injury.

Morgan Uzcatia | Consulting_Angel

The Mysterious
Just as entries were about to close,
this person entered. They may be
mysterious, but they also have an
entourage that follows them. Rich
and powerful, they are extremely
cool and is confident of their ability
to become champion - much to the
ire of some.

Tom Pilgrim | TheRegularTerrarian

The Devoted
They are devoted to the roller
maze game. It's pretty much all
they've known since they started,
but in the past has not even made
it past the first round of heats.
But if they play it right, then this
year... perhaps things will look up?

Oscar King | TheRegularTerrarian

The Schemer
They always appear to be smiling,
warm and friendly - if occasionally
abrasive. But beneath the smiles and
fun, they have a scheme up their
sleeve. For the right price, they'll
help anyone win - or otherwise
ensure their own victory.

Name | User
The Veteran
They used to be a champion
years ago, and this year, they're
back on the rink to prove that this
'old-timer' hasn't had their day yet.
But will they struggle to keep up
with the younger competitors and
lose steam before the final?

Jade McCoy | Consulting_Angel

The Outcast
They are not popular in the
community. Whether it's because
of their unusual technique, or have
just been deemed as odd, they've
persevered through to the championship.
But what does that mean for finding
a willing partner?

Asher Raine | Consulting_Angel

The Dreamer
They can hardly believe that they've
actually made it to the championship.
While they have quite the habit of
daydreaming about winning, will they
be able to focus enough and actually
get the win? Or will their dream remain
just that?

Anna Miles | Spiritstar3

The Wild Card
With an unpredictable play style, they
could end anywhere in the rankings. But
given they're at the championship, it's
currently working for them. But they are
only really loyal to themselves, so there's
no telling if they'd leave their partner
in the lurch for their own gain.

Name | User

The Outspoken
If they don't agree with you, then
you can be sure that they'll tell you.
They are stubborn and opinionated,
but will try and stand up for those that
are being treated unfairly. Will this
controversial person manage to make
it to the final race though?

Name | User

The Aggressive
Known for their more aggressive style
of playing, any race that they've been in
has usually lead to least one person being
injured - even if mildly - but they play
within the rules enough and have the
plausible deniability to not be
banned from the competition.

Name | User

NPCs
These characters can be played by anyone as and when needed. They will for the most part remain nameless, but feel free to give them a name if you'd like to.

Other Competitors - the miscellaneous competitors in the championships. Because we all need some NPCs to lose against us (or temporarily team up with).
The Mysterious' Entourage - a squad of four that go everywhere with them. They are not competitors, and act sort of as security, personal medic for them and their skates, and hype men.
'The Reigning Champion's Crew - a team of skaters that are also competing, but otherwise view The Reigning Champion as their leader, often hoping to be chosen to race with them, or will cheer them along.
The Commentators - they commentate on the races and hype up the crowds. There's two of them.
The Race Marshalls - they closely follow alongside the competitors to ensure no one is breaking any rules. They have full power to give penalties and disqualify those deemed causing trouble, as well as getting those that are injured out of the way. There's three in total.

Information

Postby Consulting_Angel » Sun Feb 16, 2025 10:37 am

Roleplay Information
Taking place at a competition centre that has been set up as a roller maze, with a gym and training arena, and stadium-type seating for an audience.
Competitors have been put up in a nearby hotel, and are from all over the world. Some are, naturally, more well known than others.
Competitors use quad rollerskates, not in-line skates.
There are no pre-set pairs, we will decide in the discussion thread for pairings just before the roleplay starts - as well as shuffles in the pairings, if any.
Some roles are on the more antagonist side, so please don't choose those roles if you're not comfortable with playing as an antagonist. Such roles that are currently open are The Schemer and The Aggressive (& The Wild Card if that's how they're chosen to be played as).

Re: The Champion Roller Maze Race (Accepting!)

Postby Consulting_Angel » Mon Mar 10, 2025 3:07 am

Starting with competitors arriving/meeting in a training area, set up with a variety of obstacles to be practiced against - hurdles, ramps, slopes, railings, and even a makeshift bridge over a large, but shallow, pool of water (and towels on the side for those that fall in). The lobby of the building has two of the organisers of the competition signing competitors in, and directing them to the locker rooms so they can change into their skates and protective gear before going into the actual training arena. Sign ups for qualified skaters are about to close, and competitors are free to train and practice while the organisers finish with the sign ups and arrive in the arena themselves.
The race marshals are observing the training arena, to make sure there's no foul play even before the competition begins.

Morgan Uzcatia
The Reigning Champion
Location: Training Arena
Tagged: Open
"Out of my way! Get out of my way!" Morgan yelled, as she skated into the training arena
quickly, past a few competitors that were milling about near the entrance of the training arena, just talking with one another. She would have barged past or otherwise pushed them aside if they hadn't moved, and such an outburst had drawn the attention of a few of the other competitors that had heard the shouting. There was little surprise to her as she noted some of them whispering to one another - she was the reigning champion, after all, and she was so ready to kicked butt again this year.
She didn't slow down as she took a lap of the perimeter of the arena, carefully assessing the obstacles that had been set out, before starting with the hurdles, pulling herself over each one with ease and skating to the next one. She had no time to take things easy or slow - or, worse yet, stop and just talk to the others. She was here to make an impression and win.

Morgan then went over to the shallow pool with a makeshift bridge - a couple of planks of wood - which she skated up onto and glided over. This she was a little more careful on, as the bridge was narrower than usual, not quite wide enough to have both feet together, but still plenty wide enough that you didn't have to skate perfectly straight. Once she got to the other side, she let the momentum of the small slope on the other side of the bridge bring her back up to speed, and she went for the largest obstacle at the other end of the arena.
A long ramp that curved slightly as it went upwards, then a curved flat section, before another ramp that mirrored the other one going down. There were some railings along the ramp, and at the top, with a central, wide slope that spanned the flat section - so one could either skate their way around the edge of this, or skate up one of the sides and then go back down in the middle. It was large enough that it took up much of the width of the arena, and could easily have many skaters on at the same time.
Morgan skated up one of the side ramps, and then skated into the central slope where she turned around so she went down it backwards, before taking a wide turn as she was back on the ground level and made her way back up one of the side ramps. This time, however, she stopped at the top, leaning on one of the railings where she would observe the other competitors, to decide who would be worthy enough to be asked to team up with her.

Jade McCoy
The Veteran
Location: Locker Room
Tagged: Open
Jade sat on a bench in the locker room, tying up the laces on her skates. She'd watched some of the other competitors already, and she was a little shocked by how fast some of the others were. Even in the competitions and qualifiers leading up to the championship, she wasn't sure that anyone else had been quite as fast. Well - she was here, wasn't she? It still meant she had it in some capacity. Hopefully. She might have been a champion when she was in her 20's, but it hadn't been a sustainable career, especially as she got a knee injury and had to retire at 30. Though she'd spent time coaching instead, it wasn't the same as actually skating and competing, and she'd really missed it. She honestly didn't think that she'd ever get the chance to compete again, let alone make it all the way to the championships. Maybe she'd even get to the finals... or win - that would show everyone she was just as capable as she had been when she was younger, despite being the oldest competitor now. The only other thing would be to find someone willing to team up with her - she hadn't managed to convince her forming racing partner to return to competing, and she was a little concerned that no one would want to team up, given her age.

She strapped on her knee and elbow pads, her wrist guards and her helmet - the standard regulatory protective equipment that all skaters were required to wear. It was more important to be safe than anything else, after all. Jade looked forward to getting out into the training arena and practice the obstacles that would be set out. She stood up, and took a few, slow, practice spins and a skate around the locker room. A little slow, but that was because the space was small. Then, she started towards the door of the locker room, which would lead out into the corridor and down to the training arena.

Asher Raine
The Outcast
Location: Training Arena
Tagged: Open
Though it was a racing competition and not about style or tricks, that hadn't stopped Asher from taking advantage of the space and equipment to perform a few tricks. One-footed spins that he seemed to be able to keep up for several in a row without getting dizzy, or even skating up ramps fast enough to do a flip mid-air, Asher was admittedly being a bit of a show-off. He'd not had access to such equipment before, even in the qualifying competitions - which had not really allowed much in the way of free practice on anyway - and he had not been able to get some at home. Most of his tricks, he'd learnt at a skatepark, copying the skateboarders as they did their ollies and kickflips, trying to figure out a way to do them on rollerskates (and YouTube tutorials, of course).

Maybe he wasn't taking the competition as seriously as some of the other competitors, which had caused them to avoid him much of the time. He'd overheard a conversation earlier about some of the skaters discussing who they wanted to try and team up with, and his name was considered one of the least desirable team-ups, because he didn't seem like he was serious about winning. He didn't see the need to be so serious about it all - he would certainly try his best to win, of course, and did want to win, but he also wanted to actually have fun with it. And that fun included performing a few tricks, both in training and during the actual races. If anything, it'd helped his balance immensely, but that didn't stop others from being so wary.
Asher hummed to himself as he skated across the makeshift bridge over the shallow pool, trying to glide over on one foot without needing to put his other foot down for another push, his mind entirely occupied by this.

Jimmy Himinez- m- 24- The Underdog- Porsche- homosexual; Asher- Tags: Asher

The handsome tanned (but slightly lighter) male hummed a bit. He looked around the area for a short moment. Dark eyes looked at a couple of the others that were in the practice area. He brushed at his shoulder length and curly, dark hair. He then looked around at the others again. He saw a girl at the course, and another girl with long red hair and gray eyes. He tilted his head as he studied them both. He then shook his head and looked away, the clean shaven and medium lashed one looking around again.

He saw a guy on the practice course as well. He tilted his head as he watched him…then he shook his head a couple times. He checked his pads, one on each knee and one on each elbow, and checked the wrist guards too. He then adjusted his helmet just in case. Before blinking a couple times. He shook his head again, and studied the practice course. He noted the hurdles, ramps, slopes and railings. He also noted the bridge over a large shallow pool, before skating over and saying “Hey,” to Asher, who’s name he didn’t know yet.

Anna Miles- f- 22- The Dreamer- Greyhound- bi- Abramm x Amy: Adam, Alliie, Arkk- Tags: open to tag

The beautiful creamy peachy skinned girl hummed. She glanced around the locker room a moment, her slightly longer lashed gray eyes catching sight of another woman. This one had the air of a veteran. She watched the other woman a moment. She then shook her head, and made herself focus. She’d already done the crown braid in her hair, the rest of the hair left loose. She put on her skates, and tied them, securing the skates. She then stood and skated out, getting her pads and guards and helmet secured as well.

She’d placed her glasses in their case in her bag. She’d put the bag into a locker, since her phone and keys and stuff were in there. She didn’t have a lot of valuables, but the phone was valuable and the bit of money and her keys. She’d put her contacts in. It wouldn’t do to have problems seeing…She saw the woman from just moments earlier, as well as another woman and two men. She watched one guy skating, and the other approaching. She assumed the one greeted the other, as the one went up to the practice course.
