We need your feedback: Bigger, less frequent pound openings?

New players are totally at a disadvantage with the pound having pets visible, there's no question in that. Players who have checked the pound's available pets, maybe even memorized what's there, or who in general have been here long enough to know what the rarer pets look like, obviously they will have a better chance than any newer players in picking up rare pets of any kind. It's a bit silly to pretend that's not true. Geez, I've been here for? Wow, is it TEN YEARS already? Never gotten anything good from the pound, couldn't even tell you if I'd seen anything worth anything in there either, since rarity bars exist for a reason I've never in any other situation had to check what rarity a pet is so my long-term memory isn't wasting any space on whether a random pet in the pound is worth something or not.

A solution to this, I feel, would be making it a blind pick. Or listing the rarities under the pets, like you're making a trade. I'm still erring on the side of "no, it's not fair", because of what's discussed above. No one will argue that lowballing Dec 18th pets owned by newer players is taking advantage of them and thus unfair, so I'd find a hard time arguing that this is fair. Even if the new players happen to figure out that you can see what pets are in the pound, even if those new players make a chart to reference every time the pound is open, they won't recognize it before an older player that knows how to recognize older pets instantly.

Also more openings is just better- there's such a huge repository of pets in there right now, which isn't such a bad thing except that the ratio of low value to high value pets is so weighted that we'd be lucky if any of the older pets get in any of the openings to even find them in the first place. And then there's people like me, who always lose the Timezone Draw, and don't have a chance to begin with since the timezone only agrees once in a blue moon that I'll be available and have time to sift for something I actually want in the first place.

Overall, my experience with the pound is bad and change is clearly needed to make it more fair for everyone.

As much as I loved having the larger supply during pound openings, I think it’s overall better to have the pound open more often. I’m a full time college student, and I know a lot of others are in a similar boat with school, work, etc., and we’d hate to miss our opportunity if the pound is only open once a day.

Also if you multiply the numbers you can see exactly how many pets go out "per day" through the pound with each suggested ratio.

1800 x 1.7 = 3060
1300 x 2.4 = 3120 (more opportunities to grab pets, and more pets available!)

I think abandoned accounts that have been left for 7+ years should be donated to the pound. There are accounts that started in 2008/2009 that have been left to rot since then. Maybe send out emails to them and if they dont log in within a 6 month period have them be sent to the pound. Just a thought, that way no ones making more pets for the pound (although i do think there should be another dec 18th 6th months from that date to produce more activity but thats another topic)

In re: bots, I have no proof, but years ago opera used to have a web extension called snaplinks that would allow the user to select multiple links and have them automatically open as new tabs.

Im not sure how, but I figure an extension that allows links to be activated when the page loads would be able to act upon "Adopt a pet" on the top row to land at least one of the pets.

I currently don't know if such a web extension currently exists, but in the past snaplinks was fairly close.

I’m kind of bummed so many people are against the 1800 pets in the pound one. Do you really think the pound opening 0.7 times less a day would make such a difference that you would never catch the pound?
I guess my thinking was it was really nice during Easter when there were 2,000 pets in the pound every opening and it actually let more users get good pets. Because then there are more options. More people get good pets on average because, on average, the people with super fast clicking get less of the really good pets because the pets are spread out more. If the same people are getting really good pets every time somehow, they get a chance of a really good pet 1 out of every 1300 pets. But if we lower there odds by having them only get a really good pet every 1 out of every 1800 pets, everyone else could have a better chance.
That’s just how I think about it and it makes sense to me but I know not everyone could understand my reasoning and I’m not sure I explained it right. This isn’t an attack on anyone else’s posts, I just wanted to share my thoughts.

I second this! It’s a lot more difficult to get a pet I really want when there are less pets in the drop, and the pound empties in a relatively few amount of refreshes.

keeping it as it is, with the higher frequency of openings, is more fair for users with different time zones.
