What Is A Paperclip?

i see people do them alot and i dont know what it is o.O

Basically, people try to trade a pet for a little better one (like, for one from month earlier than the paperclip pet). The pet you get becomes the new paperclip pet. Then you continue on trading the paperclip pet always for something little better, until you find something you like. Or this is how I've understood it, ehh, so someone please correct me if I'm wrong. ^^;
