Okay, so trying to block all moving gifs in everybody's signature is fighting a losing battle, so yesterday I tried just blocking all gifs and found the medieval map doesn't work. Why? What does links have to do with blocking a certain image file?

It's because when you hover over a link (like the forest), a light glows around it showing you
what image you're selecting. The hover links were made using a gif file so that the glow
didn't look too abrupt.

As for the gifs in signatures, those are bothering me too. One is fine, but 5 is unnecessary.

yes i agree, and in my opion the HUGE pics they use bother me also for some reason, but one moving pic is fine XD

It uses gifs as a spacer so that the map continues to work with all images disabled - your blocking tool is showing neither the alt text, nor is it retaining the size of the blocked image in the layout.

I've replaced it with a spacer PNG instead.
