The night grew cold as the moon moved higher in the sky. The young black stallion trotted along the road, ignoring the oncoming traffic. The man riding his steed wore a long black trench coat to go with his black motorcycle boots and his long black hair that reached his back. No people passing by noticed the tiny bundle of blankets he carried in his arms. The little bundle started to wiggle in his arm and moved the blanket of its face revealing a face of a child. The man in black put his hand on the side of the little girls face as he made his way to the house.
When they made it to the house, the man in black left his horse behind the cluster of trees behind the house. He laid the child gently in a wicker basket and kissed it on the forehead making it laugh. A tear fell down the man's face as he carried the baby to the houses front steps and laid the basket down.
"Goodbye Luna." With that he turned on his heels and walked back to his steed.
Chapter One-Finding The Lost One
Luna slammed her hand down on the shrieking alarm clock beside her desk. She sat upstraight and rubbed her eyes and stared out the window. Monday. My birthday, Luna thought solemly. Dragging herself out of the bed, Luna rummaged through her closet and pulled out her jeans and light green hoody. Slipping on a pair of black converse and combing out her bed hair, Luna bounded down the steps two at a time.
As she walked into the family room she noticed her mother at the stove pulling banana nut muffins from the large oven. Luna's mother wasn't really her biological mother, but Luna loved just as she was. She was a plump woman with long brown hair that reached the mid of her back with grey streaks through it.
"Hey baby. Wanna muffin?" She asked while she handed out the basket full of muffins.
"No thanks."
"Okie dokie." She laid the muffins back down on thr kitchen table just as my father came barging through the door. He was the exact opposite of mother. He was fat and most of his hair apparently went on his chest and face as he was extremly bald on the top of his head. His wardrobe mainly consisted of greased stained tank tops that made sure every bulge showed and to short shorts. Luna tried to imagine what he looked like when he was younger but to no avail.
"Get me some food," he barked at my mother as he yanked out a chair from the table. Luna grinded her teeth as she glared at him. She hated him. She hated the way he treated mother. She hated his eating habits. She also hated the disgusting smell that he gave off. He smelled like cigars and puke.
Mother laid a plate of eggs, bacon, and toast in front of him and he grabbed his fork and jumped in making sure there were no crumbs left.
"Oh, happy birthday Luna!" Mother said clapping her hands together. She ran over to the cupboard and brought out butterscotch cookies and laid them in front of me. Luna really had no clue when she was born, but they celebrated the day when she mysterously appeared at her doorstep.
"Eat up! You gotta make it to your first day at school!" Mother smiled excitedly and turned back to the oven.
"Thanks mom," Luna said, faking a smile. In fact, she didn't want to go to her new school. She just wanted to pack up and move back home to their big house with the trees and big yards. Not here. Not here at all.
Luna finished up her breakfeast and threw some cookies in her backpack as she walked out of the house. Her mother kissed her on the chick and gave her a hug as she left. Her father just gave a grunt as he flipped through the channels. Luna jumped in her baby, a baby blue Ford mustang. She jammed her keys into the ingnition, making her micky mouse key chain spin. As Luna pulled out into the road she begin to feel something watching her. Like it hid behind a tree watching everymove she made. She felt this ever since she moved from her old home to the surburban that was dead center of her little town.
Ignoring this, Luna drove down the road. She had to admit that it wasn't so bad. Most of her neighbors were little old women who made the best foods she had ever tasted. Rain begin slighty come down and then it came harder and harder till she couldn't see out her window without squinting her eyes nearly shut. Just then, she saw it.
Hitting the breaks, the tires squeeled and the car came to a jolting stop. Taking deep, shaky breaths, Luna gripped the wheel till her knuckles turned white and stared out her window. The figure was tall and black except for its face. Oh, its face was a terrible sight to see. It was the face of a young women or man, whos lips were sewed shut with bloody string. Its eyes were black as a night and as cold as the air. And they were staring at her.
"Hello," Luna said shakily as the thing slowly walked over to her car making a stange noise that sounded like a pig squealing underwater.
"Hello," Luna called again. This time being more clear. The thing made the noise again and Luna realized it was actually talking to her.
"Forgotten child is found. Forgotten child is found." The thing reapeated this over and over. Luna found herself with tears running down her face as the rain fell harder and thunder shook the earth. The thing got close, and hands width from her hood. Trying to reverse the car and leave, Luna realized her hands shook to much to do anything.
Luna closed her eyes and covered them with her palms. At this time, Luna heard something. Not the squealing monster. Not another car. But instead she heard the sound of a hooved animal coming down the road and turned to see and black Arabian horse trotting down the road. It came up beside her car and she gasped at it's sight. It was the most beautiful creature she ever saw. It's reigns were gold as were it's eyes. White streaks fell through its hair perfectly and it moved with a grace Luna had never seen in such a horse.
"Magic horse," Luna whispered. She looked up and tried to see its rider but he or she was hid behind layers and layers of rain. She struggled to see the rider and in this process she never saw the person draw a sword and cleanly cut the head off the monster. Luna heard the monster give a horrifying squeal and collapse on the ground. Just in that moment the rain dissapeared, leaving a clear view of the rider. But the rider had already gotten quite a distance and dissapeared in the newly shown sun.
Chapter Two-Coming Home
Ever since that unenventful day, Luna has jumped out of her skin at every single time the shadows seemed to move. She felt excited and anxious 24/7. Not the every-thing-is-good excited, but the something-wants-to-eat me kind of excited.
"Hey momma! Where is my bag?" Luna threw her bed sheets across the room and ripped her closet to shreds looking for her messenger bag she got for Christmas one year.
"I believe it was in the shed," her mother replied.
"Shed?"
"Yes dear. The shed."
She was about to ask why it was in the shed but decided against it. Bounding down the stairs, Luna swung into the kitchen, nearly knocking into her father.
"Hmmph. Watch it girl," her father growled. Really growled. His eyes gave a sorta red glow and it quickly left just as it came. He pushed her aside and sat on the sofa growling to himself.
Now I am seeing things, Luna thought as she opened the backdoor. Walking down the stone path to the shred Luna noticed somthing. And that something was absolutley nothing. No birds sang, no cars went down the road, no kids played at all. Just nothing. It is as if the world was empty. The sky was cloudy and fog was heavy and getting worse. Goosebumps ran up her arms as she rubbed them to comfort herself.
Walking quickly, Luna opened the door of the shed and closed it behind her and turned the light on. She never went to the shed much so she never noticed the fact that it was in bad shape and getting worse by the minute. Just as her mother had said, the messenger bag laid on a old chest. Luna opened the bag and rummaged through it making sure everything was there. Everything was, including a new object.
It was absolutley beautiful, whatever it was. The chain changed diffrent colors in difrrent light, but was about the size of the band of a ring. The most beautiful part was the charm. It was a creature that looked like a cross between a white dove and a white bunny and it was made of Moonstone.
Luna tossed the item in her hands and laid it down beside a folded piece of paper that she had not noticed before. Unfolding it, Luna read what it said in golden ink.
Remember the star
Confusion. Confusion was all Luna could feel. Confusion and a surprising amount of anger. Why were these people bothering her? What had she done and who did they think she was? Luna crumpled the paper in her hands and threw it at the ground. Noticing the object again, Luna picked up the fragil item and toyed with it. On the back, Luna noticed a little star with the letter "L" in the middle.
"Who am I?" Luna whispered to no one in particular.
Luna hid the item in a special spot for safe-keeping, along with the note, and walked out side. The fog had grown so heavy Luna could not even her hands. The fog began to lessen and Luna walked quicker and walked in a strange room that should not have been in her back yard. The room was large and circular and was completly made of gold and black marble. Luna kept walking forward and her footsteps echoed through the room.
The sound of whispering filled the room, but Luna could not figure out who was the one whispering. Luna realized she was extremly thirsty and could not talk not one word. She kept walking toward large glass doors, but she didn't know why. When she put her hands up to open the door, she couldn't move her arms. In fact she couldn't move nothing on her body excpet her legs that only moved to one direction.
The doors flew open by themselves, which took Luna by surprise. Her legs kept moving forward and Luna was afraid she would go over the edge, but no. Her legs stopped in the middle of the balcony. She couldn't move, and she could talk. All she could do was wait and that did not take very long to do. Suddenly, just as if he was hiding in the shadows, which couldn't possibly surprise Luna at the moment, the man in black walked out.
