Shaped by Shadows

chronological order: Pre-Curse

The forest lay in an ominous silence. No bird sang, no insect buzzed, and the wind, which usually whispered through the canopy, had retreated. Raizan sensed it immediately. A disturbance in the balance, a dark wave seeping through the magical currents of the forest like poison in a wound.

His golden hooves barely touched the ground as he followed the invisible call. The trees, which normally welcomed him with a gentle rustling, seemed to shrink back in fear. Then he smelled it - the metallic scent, mixed with a foul stench that did not belong to this world.

He found the first victims in a small clearing: a stag with lifeless eyes, its body far off from what it used to be. A dozen crows lay around it as if they had fallen straight from the sky. The plants nearby were withered, as though an invisible plague had drained them of life. Raizan lowered his head, touched the ground with his horn, and sent out his magic. The earth spoke to him of a shadow, a beast that was no longer what it once had been.

      Then he heard the growl.

A wolf emerged from the underbrush. Its fur had once been silver-gray, but now it was dull and matted. Its eyes glowed with an ominous red light, and dark wisps curled around its paws like living shadows. Its maw was tainted in a rusty color, whether from prey or something far worse.

This was no ordinary animal anymore. It was possessed.

The dark nature spirits had made it their vessel, poisoning its soul with their hatred. It was now a tool of chaos, a hunter with no purpose but destruction. Raizan knew he had to act quickly before the creature could cause more harm.

The wolf leaped. A storm of shadows and teeth. Raizan dodged with the grace of a dream, his golden tail tracing a luminous arc in the darkness. But the wolf was fast, faster than any natural beast. It had not only strength but dark magic coursing through it.

Raizan could not simply defeat it - that would not drive the spirits away. He had to save it.

As the wolf struck again, Raizan lowered his horn. A brilliant flash of light surged through the forest as he touched the creature. The darkness hissed and writhed, as if he had burned a brand into the shadows. The wolf howled - a sound of fury and fear in equal measure.
Raizan stood firm. His magic flowed into the creature, searching for what was still pure, for the spark of the being that had once run freely through these woods. The resistance was immense. The spirits clung to their host, dug their claws into its soul, screaming in voiceless rage. But Raizan was stronger.

He saw the wolf as it once had been - a proud hunter, a protector of its pack. Not a tool of evil.
With one final golden pulse, Raizan tore the darkness from the animal’s body. It dissolved into a mist of hissing, smoky nothingness, sinking into the earth where it faded harmlessly away. The wolf collapsed, panting, its body trembling with exhaustion.

      Silence.

Then, slowly, the creature opened its eyes - no red glow remained. Only the clear, honest color of the wild. It blinked at Raizan, confused, weary, but free.
Raizan lowered his horn and stepped back. The forest exhaled. The wind returned, a soft whisper through the leaves. The birds began to sing again.

      Balance had been restored.

The Fawn in the Grass

Postby Toffi~ » Wed Mar 12, 2025 6:39 am

      chronological order: Pre-Curse

Morning light lay like a golden blanket over the old forest. In the tall grass of a sunny clearing, a young fawn was hiding. It was only a few days old. Its legs were still weak, and its big eyes were full of fear and wonder. The mother was gone - maybe looking for food, maybe scared away by a fox. The little fawn trembled in the cool morning air, alone and quiet.

Raizan stepped out of the trees. His golden coat shimmered in the sun and his horn glowed with a warm light. Where he walked, shadows faded, and peace returned.
He walked up, slowly, towards the fawn. It looked up but did not run. Something about Raizan - maybe his smell of flowers, rain, and safety - made the little creature feel calm.

Raizan lowered his head, gently toughing the Fawn with his horn. Light spread from him, warm like the sun. It moved through the earth and into the small body. The fawn stopped shaking. Its breath grew strong. Its tiny heart beat steady.

But Raizan’s breath became heavier. Every gift of healing took some of his strength. So he turned away as the fawn fell asleep ones more and he walked deeper into the forest.

He followed hidden paths, soft with moss and quiet like dreams. At last, he reached a secret place: a spring where a waterfall fell like silver glass into a clear pool. Sunlight broke through the trees and danced on the water. Flowers grew all around - some old as the forest, others blooming for just one day.

Raizan stepped into the clearing and lay down by the water. The power of this place wrapped around him like a blanket. The roots of the trees welcomed him. Birds sang softly, not from fear, but from love.
He closed his eyes. His breath deep and slow. The forest replenishing his powers. No spell, no words - only connection. Here, he could rest. Here, he could become whole again: guardian, healer, protector of the woods.

But he would not stay long. Soon, the forest would need him again - a hurt bird, a sick tree, a child lost in the dark.
And Raizan would answer, as he always had.

Because that is what a guardian does: give, protect, and know where to find strength again.
