high king - the ruler of all highsun, known as elo
him when earned the rank. he is not to be questi
oned as he is chosen by the gods.

high queen - the mate of the high king, she has a
bsolute power over the kingdom, second to only t
he king.

advisors - chosen for their intelligence and cunn
ing they are highly respected by all, including the king
and queen. they advise the royal family and the war
lord.

heirs - the children of the king and queen, they h
ave power over everyone in the pride except for
the king and queen.

warlord - the commander of the vendettes, they
lead them in battle and advise the king.

forager - the commander of the hunters, they
organize hunts and advise the king.

warden - the commander of the officers, they
keep control of the pride and make sure rules are
followed.

high priest - highly trusted by the king and queen
and all of the pride. they have the most connecti
on with the gods besides the high king.

royal guards - highly trusted guards used to prot
ect the royal family and the rest of the nobles.

usually give messages from the gods, and keep th
e words of the gods alive.

vendettes - the fighters and defenders of the pride,
the most common rank, though they branch off i
nto different sub-ranks.

hunter - the hunters of the pride. they kill and
scavenge for their food.

officers - responsible for keeping peace within
the pride and reporting back to the warden with any
rule breakers.

conscripts - young lions under training, they are
named as one rank though specialize in different
things like vendettes.

mothers - the expecting lionesses, some lionesse
s choose to stay in the mothers den to help other
s and their cubs. usually a permanent mother hel
ps the queen during birth and does most of the b
asic caring of the cubs.

veterans - the old lions and lionesses that have s
erved highsun for all of their years. finally earnin
g a rank where they can laze and chat for the res
t of their days. though there are few veterans.

A3 - what does your pride value above all else? [221/200]

the kingdom of highsun values their religion and their king above all. not even each other can break their belief in both. the gods had a destiny for everyone, and what they say is considered law, as is the kings. but if it comes down to it, they will listen to the gods over the king, it has happened once before that the gods have called out an unworthy king, and in return brought death and destruction. the gods weren't, well, pleased. they worship their many gods, there is a god for almost everything. they fear but respect them, as they do with their king. even badmouthing the gods or altair, as they call their god, is punishable by exile or worse. they make sure the gods are always pleased, and when something like wildfire or sickness strikes them, they believe they are angering the gods are they are quick to change whatever they are doing. with that being said it is easy for said king or deities to manipulate their people, they believe everything is from the gods, and if something happens they mostly panic. despite this, they will always adore their gods, for they gave them life, they give them food. as far as the pride is concerned there will always be gods, and they will always worship them

A5 - where did your pride's name come from? [132/50]

the kingdom of highsun was, in honor, named after the sun god altair. it was believed that the sun was the mightiest of all. for it could start fires, cause droughts, it could even take away their precious light when it wanted to. so they named it high sun, after when altair shined brightly in the sky, and casted his golden rays across the land. it was 'the most heavenly part of the cycle'. for the glory they had when the sun was high in the sky, that was them. burning brightly for all to see, with a hidden message, light does not exist without me. as the king put it, the gods let me exist, and they let you exist. you only exist because he lets you, because I let you.

A6 - what sort of faith does your pride have? (100 exp)

the sun god, altair - the sun god, referred to as altair is their main belief, he
is all that is good and great in the kingdom, and to be blessed by him is the hig
hest honor. he usually appears as a glowing golden lion, with intense golden ey
es. his sigil is the sun with rays like flames. he also commonly is associated with
fire.

the moon goddess, skadi - the moon goddess, named skadi, is the second highes
t goddess. she is the sun at night, with the stars in the sky to guide them and give
them light. she is also very highly worshipped because the constellations are supp
osed to give readings and predict the future. she is the wife of altair, the sun god.
she is also commonly associated with water/ice, and the cold. her sigil is a moon w
ith bright stars surrounding it.

the healing god, thesde - the healing god, the most interactive god by far. he spe
aks to the priests and gives them words of advice and prophecies. he is responsible
for bringing sickness and plagues into the area. he is the son of skadi and altair,
and brother to amara. his sigil is a sapling with two leaves and thorns growing ar
ound it.

the hunting goddess, amara - the goddess of the hunt, she is responsible for bri
nging food to the lands and migrating them. she is the daughter of skadi and alt
air and sister to thesde. her and thesde work closely in bringing illnesses and de
ath to the pride. as they are quite mischievous. her sigil is an antelope with a li
on jumping on it.

the void god, sol - the god of the void, of nothingness. the blackness that covers
the sun every so often. he is the outcasted god, as altair shuns him. skadi pities
him as he is her son, the father however, is not altair. his sigil is a dark sun with
only the sharp lines of the rays and a circle showing. though he is not commonly
worshipped.

the water goddess, yela - the goddess of the river, and the lakes. she is worship
ped widely. her symbol is the ripples in the water.

the goddess of the plague, nefti - the goddess of sickness and the plague, she is
wife to thesde, but widely speculated to be the second parent of sol.

A8- what would the symbol of your pride and why? [107/50]

the kingdom of highsun holds a high understanding of the world around them, or at least they consider themselves to. everything has a meaning, big and small. their gods, for one, are highly respected, and understanding them is key. the gods communicate through many things, one thing commonly; symbols. it's not uncommon for a particularly sunny day where the sun takes on a most golden hue as it casts over the land to be seen as altair watching them, meaning he's pleased. the kingdom of highsun would take on altair's symbol, the sun cast high in the sky with long golden rays shining down on the land.

the kingdom of highsun is a nomadic kingdom slightly. they have one place they call home and when they go on one of their raids or trips they have a few lions who stay behind and keep things going with one of the altair's trusted advisors and a priest. however, their permanent land is settled in the savannah. they settle in a small rocky area, where they have made dens and such, though they mostly sleep under the sky when the weather will permit. to the northeast, they have a small oasis next to where mountains and such start, which also fades into desert eventually. the oasis is green and they find themselves going there daily. to the south and west they start going into desert land and to the north greener area. they have adapted to the savannah where they prey on whatever they can find. with that being said it is not uncommon for their members to wander, as long as they return the same night or a day later. apollyon has been stricter on the rule as he doesn't want any harm coming to them or making enemies with their constant wandering. the kingdom usually travels north as to the east, south, and west is primarily desert, though they are used to all sorts of terrains due to their traveling the one thing they do not adapt easily to is cold or snowy climates.

A7 - what hunting style does your pride employ to survive in their environment? [236/200]

the pride's territory is vast and has several different terrains. the mountains, the savannah, the desert, and the grasslands. each lion can hunt well enough in each terrain, but specializes in one or two. they most commonly hunt in groups, or patrols. though sometimes they will hunt alone, though not commonly. the groups will be picked based upon each lions skills and they will be sent to the part of the territory they excel in. the groups used many different tactics, though a most common one in the savannah is for the lions to pick one of them (usually a not very skilled lion) to distract said herd or animal. while the herd/animal is watching the distraction, the pride will sneak behind them and pounce. though sometimes it doesn't work the pride will usually set them off toward the distracting lion while the faster ones herd them together so to speak. they organize big hunts every month, while pride hunts are every other month, sometimes skipping a few. when hunting alone, most lions choose small catches and have many different techniques. some even stand still in the camouflage and wait for prey to come by- though that technique is very rare. the pride is expected to bring back all catches untouched (except for the killing) so that the high ranks and such can eat before. they also sometimes sacrifice their food to appease the gods.

A9 - what is your pride's biggest threat? [235/200]

the kingdom of highsun has many threats, not all animals of the savannah and desert. some lions like them. former lions who knew of the god and his reign over the lands he came from. they fear him, and when fear consumes one, aggression or cowardice is expected as a result. the latter preferred. apollyon made sure to cover distance before he settled down and formed his new pride, though the threat still plagues his mind. the gods are also seen as a threat, for their wrath is feared deeply by all. the pride makes sure to always please the gods, as the older lions tell tales of the gods wrath, fire raining from the sky and plagues consuming everyone. compared to the latter, their animal threats don't seem too bad, though they still have reason to be wary. snakes, boars, scorpions, and other predators still prove to be threats to the pride, and are killed upon sight. though the gods and other lions are still considered bigger threats. snakes are one of the top predators (the pride thinks they are) because of their poison and the ties of their gods. most of the animals are considered symbols of the gods, so that is greatly taken into consideration. they spare no mercy to outsiders, especially one not of their kind. the same goes for other lions and big cats. they are enemies until proven otherwise.

A15 - what sort of prey and predators populate your pride's territory? [259/150]

the prey that populates the kingdom's territory is vast and different. the desert part of their territory vary's from the oasis to the middle of nowhere almost. they feed off of gemsbok and ostriches, though most commonly the former. in the more common part of the territory, savannah, they feed off of buffalo, kudu, antelope, wildebeest, impala, zebra, warthog, and sometimes giraffe. most commonly they go after gemsbok, antelope, wildebeest and zebra. on group hunts they are most likely to go after larger prey for days at a time and catch as much as they can and then store it. singular hunts, pair hunts, or small group are most common to bring back smaller prey but enough to feed a few lions. if more than two lions go out to hunt, they are expected to bring back more than two carcasses and nothing less or they will get last pick to avoid starvation. they hunt for those who can't.

the predators that populate the kingdom's territory is also different as their prey. several other big cats are threats, as well as most commonly hyenas. they have most trouble with the former two and are very wary of outsiders, especially those who aren't lions. they can build tolerance for some other outsiders, though hyenas they do not welcome at all. hyenas are chased out on sight or killed. other prides are threats as well, and that is the most common. also, uncommon predators are snakes and scorpions, while small their poison is enough to kill or mortally wound a lion.

A16 - what sort of climate does your pride's territory have? [162/150]

the kingdom's climate varies, their land is a mixture of desert and savannah so it is very hot during the day. the few tree's and their rocky outcrop camp provide shade while the oasis provides a way to cool down. most lions have adapted to the dry and hot weather, they adapt quickly. the wind, when blowing is nice, but the sand that sometimes kicks up is not. the storms that sweep through do not flood any of their land except for near the oasis, and sandstorms aren't common, though they aren't unheard of. during the night, the temperature drops significantly to either cold or moderate. the lions too have adapted to that change. they herd together in little clusters for warmth or spread themselves out. the cave is good for shelter needed in all types of weather. mostly, all types of weather is seen except for snow. it is very rare and when it does come it is considered a blessing.

A11 - how does your pride band together in the face of danger? [210/200]

the kingdom of highsun presents themselves, always, as a united front. most definitely living by the saving 'united we stand, divided we fall'. they are not ones to feel threatened, even in the face of great danger. they believe themselves to be close to the gods and favored by them. their champions. so when a 'lesser' pride comes along, they have no doubt they will be able to overcome them. their king is reckless and impulsive, but he knows when to take precautions. usually he would provoke where it was unwanted and unneeded, now he thinks more carefully. when they do feel threatened, they act quickly. praying seems to be one of the first steps, the priests will speak words of courage and wisdom to help the pride and sacrifice items and food for guarantees of their safety and victory. although it seems unnecessary and they seem helpless in doing so, they are a proficient military 'unit'. they are led by the warlord who leads all major battles and attacks. when time can be spared, the warlord will send scouts out near the danger and then they will report back to him. the warlord will discuss things with the high king and his advisors and then act. if there is not enough time for discussions and scoutings, some advisors, usually the high kings most trusted and one that share his point of view of things, will help 'guide' the warlord and they will act quickly. they are cunning and will not back down from a threat almost always. their pride is both a great strength and weakness.

A14 - what does your pride expect of their cubs? [226/150]

the pride always have high expectations for their cubs, those who don't progress are frowned upon yet given time to sharpen their skills. each parent is different, and the pride usually doesn't step in for different parenting techniques. some make their cubs grow fast and they never get to become a child. some bicker and coddle their child, some let them be free. all cubs, however, are expected to follow a set of rules concerning their safety and well-being. most of it being 'don't leave camp unsupervised' and what not. most cubs don't follow the rules, but thats to be expected as well. mothers are responsible for the cubs, and while annoying, the pride allows the cubs to be cubs while they are. once they mature and grow up, they are expected to mature fast and stop their immature habits and what not. childish and immature lions are frowned upon when they get out of control, someone who knows when to stop is hesitantly accepted, one who cannot stop their childish antics are punished or exiled. while they are serious and intimidating, they understand a child has to be a child for awhile or it creates unwanted problems. again, when it comes down to it they do not have rules on parenting. they expect, when the time comes, that the cubs will serve the kingdom faithfully.
