The Coalition of Nomads
Also referred to as simply "the nomads"
They are a group of cats all joined together that live outside of the city in the wilds (usually to the west as far from the city as possible) trying to survive.
They have no set base of operations and wander wherever they please often where the prey is plentiful or wherever there is sturdy shelter. Within this faction is several other sub-factions that are supposed to be working together to create the coalition. It was an attempt much like Wildclan to unite all the cats of the wildlands together. But without any clear-set hierarchy or overarching power to keep things in check they are a disorganized bunch merely operating under one name without any actual cooperation. The many sub-factions within the coalition are often in disagreement with one another and small disputes erupt often but never escalate to full on battles or wars for sake of keeping the coalition and the strength of their numbers intact. Outside of the sub-factions and groups within the coalition there are the lone cats that tie themselves to the name of the coalition for protection while never dedicating themselves to a single sub-faction or group. They operate nearly independently of coalition as a whole and only associate with the sub-factions and groups when needed.

The Northern Strays
Also referred to as simply "the strays" unless distinction between the north and south is needed otherwise they're the "northies"
Once united with the Southern strays they ruled over the entirety of the city until a dispute over who would take over erupted and the two split. The Northies reside in the northern and oldest part of the city while also holding control over the western district and most of the central district.

The Southern Strays
Also referred to as simply "the strays" unless distinction between the north and south is needed otherwise they're the "southerners"
They are the other much smaller half of the strays that occupy's the southern part of the city which is much newer than the north and is mostly under developed. They also control the rather small eastern district which was the main entrance to the city right off the thunderpath. The central district is hotly disputed and neither faction completely controls it however the Northies hold most of it much to the Southerner's dismay. May attempts to seize the central district and finally gain the upper hand on the Northern Strays have been made but failed.

The Sewer Dwellers
Also referred to as simply "the sludgers"
They are an asylum for all of the non-combative cats that got caught up in the war between the Strays living underneath the city in the sewers. They are protected by what few combat trained cats they have that joined them after not wanting to pick sides in the war. Above ground they occupy a small section of land that is in the west of the Southerner's territory where they have a much smaller presence, however the majority of them stay underground in the sewers and tunnels. Contrary to popular belief the sludgers are not as dirty as their nickname or home suggest. With so many victims of war coming through (oftentimes young kits, or wounded) the tunnels must be kept clean to prevent infections and further deaths. Cats do not wander around with thick green slime coating their fur, the only time that happens is if a cat is clumsy enough to fall directly into the drainage canals.

The Junkyard Cats
Also referred to as simply "the junkies"
Being exiles from both the Northern Strays and Southern Strays you'd think this faction would be filled with the most infighting but they're surprising the most united. They are the cats that were cast out by the Strays for various reasons that do not want to live in hiding in the sewers but also do not want to risk it out in the unpredictable wilds with the Nomads. They are united in their combined hatred of the Strays and frequently launch attacks on the city trying to reclaim some territory for themselves.

The Loners
Also referred to as simply "hermits"
These are the cats that hold no loyalties to any of the 6 factions. They live alone or in small familial groups just peacefully living out their lives entirely separate from the politics affecting the factions. Loners can be found everywhere but there is a high concentration of them living up north amongst the mountains and inside of the mine. With the numbers they have they could unite and create a seventh faction but the cats are happy with their solitary lives away from all of the drama.

Territory size | large with a small fraction claimed
Wildclan inhabits quite a large area of explored territory however they do not own all of it and share the wildlands with the five other factions. Wildclan only fully claims the south and a small more southern part of the west however they do frequently travel outside of those borders into neutral territory or territory the nomads are currently claiming oftentimes to hunt as prey is scarce. Wildclan doesn't have to share territory with any factions other than the Nomads as the other factions are content to fight over the city to the north east and do not often venture into the wildlands. Nomad borders are hard to distinguish and properly map out as they change frequently and have multiple smaller groups and sub-factions that claim their own borders away from the main force. Usually a cat cannot tell they're entering territory of the coalition until they are attacked by a patrol.

Terrain | barren, hilly, mountainous
The wildlands has very little vegetation after the humans deforested and cleared the area in order to get land, materials, and money to build their grand city. It has been years since they abandoned the city but their mark still scars the land. Only a few shrubs and bushes have returned while the pine trees that used to make up a beautiful taiga are pushed back to the south and the mountainous west. Overall the terrain is very rugged and hilly with it becoming more mountainous towards the north and west and flatter and more plain-like to the east. The mountain springs flow down and feed into the many rivers and streams that intersect the territory with the largest running from west to east in the south just north of Wildclan's camp. It can get flooded in the spring during the big melt of all the winter snow and be dangerous to cross unless using the natural rock bridge to the west. It also freezes over in the winter if temperatures drop low enough allowing the cats to cross over easily at almost any point.

Camp
The campgrounds are located to the south within the territory Wildclan has claimed. It is sandwiches between the remaining forest to the south and the river to the north. The camp itself is on a rocky incline using the natural boulders and rocks as part of the camp walls and the shrubs and bushes as the rest. Dens are dug out by paw, each cat having their own space with same-ranking cats clustered together. The upper part of the camp is for the higher ranks or more vulnerable with the leader at the top, then the nursery, the medicine cat den, and the elders. The apprentices sleep near the bottom along with the warriors where attacks are more likely to be staged.

indent The too-close roar of thunder rumbled in Cloudstar's eardrums as he made a mad dash across the wide chasm that was the thunderpath, dodging lightning quick monsters that were eager to snatch him away. The other side was just in view under a small red monster and Cloudstar picked up the pace his hind legs kicking off behind him. The red monster sped past and he raced behind it only a few rabbit leaps from safety when a deafening blare came from his left. He barely had time to comprehend that a much larger and longer monster had been trailing the smaller red one and that he had just lept in front of it before something clipped the tip of his tail and a huge gush of wind knocked him off the thunderpath and down a shallow gravelly ditch. Is this the end? he thought, Have I already failed my mission from Starclan?

indentThe chilling autumnal winds breezed through the forest dislodging several needles from the cypress trees and raining them down onto a fluffy form ambling along below. Cloudheart shook himself from head to toe with a huff of annoyance, he knew how much time it was going to take to get all the tangles and debris out of his long luxurious coat.

indentIn his jaw he tightly grasped onto a small bundle of catmint; the herbs were his whole excuse for having being out near the western border. Hemlockstar had ordered all cats away from it unless they were apart of the search party - the same search party that Cloudheart had just spend several minutes pestering to see if they knew anything more about Lynxtooth's disappearance. The abundance of catmint that grew along the western border had prevented him from being turned away outright but as he collected more of the herb and his friendly conversation and innocent questions turned into a full-scale interrogation his fellow clanmates had to run him off in order to get work done no matter the importance of catmint.

indentCloudheart continued his pace back to camp in dejection. If Hemlockstar would just let him join in the search for his pseudo-mentor he wouldn't have to resort to such schemes. Lynxtooth was probably the most important cat in Cloudheart's life, not even his foster family came close. They shared a connection with one another that he didn't have with anyone else. It was no surprise really as Lynxtooth had been the one who had found him as an orphaned kit and brought him into the clan.
But he was more than just a good Samaritan who saw an abandoned kit all alone, he didn't just take him and drop him off at the nursery to be taken care of, he continued to be apart of Cloudheart's upbringing. Lynxtooth was like a second mentor to Cloudheart teaching him how to fight and hunt when he wasn't being mentored by Molewhisper on proper herb usage. A small part of him was envious of his foster brother Darkfoot for getting to be apprenticed by Lynxtooth when his entire kithood he thought that he would become this amazing warrior under the guidance of Lynxtooth. Instead in a twist of events Hemlockstar had given him to their medicine cat Molewhisper.

indentUpon reaching camp Cloudheart was immediately accosting by Bluetail his foster sister who grabbed him and dragging him further into camp.
indent“Where have you been!?” she hissed, “Hemlockstar is going to be holding a meeting and everyone has to be there, c'mon!”

indent Cloudheart shot her a confused look, the meeting had not been planned, but she just shrugged her shoulders sitting the two of them down in front of the Listening Stump beside the rest of their clanmates who seemed equally as confused and anxious to hear what their leader had to say. Distantly he wondered if there was an update on Lynxtooth. They couldn't have found him if the search party was still active, and if they knew there was going to be a meeting anyways it could be why they refused to give Cloudheart any information.

indent His mind continued to spew up scenario after scenario of how the meeting could play out when suddenly all chatter came to a halt in the camp as at last Hemlockstar appeared at the top of the stump and began the meeting at last,

indent “Hello, and thank you all for gathering on such sort notice for this meeting. Firstly I want to update you on the status of the investigation of Lynxtooth's disappearance.”

indentHope blossomed in Cloudheart's chest and he sat upright ears straining. Have they found a lead!?

indent Hemlockstar continued, “Due to heavy rains we have not found a definitive trail to follow. However, one of our best hunters was able to find a hint of his scent outside the western border. There are no other scents around it so a border skirmish is unlikely as is any other interference that may have drawn him outside the bounds of our clan's lands. Our present working theory is that Lynxtooth has simply decided to abandon our clan. However we are still continuing with our investigation and something new may still present itself.”

indentCloudheart instantly deflated, had Lynxtooth truly abandoned them? Abandoned him? Cloudheart had heard rumors that in his younger days Lynxtooth had been a wanderer and often disappeared from the clan for weeks at a time but in all the moons Cloudheart had been alive Lynxtooth had been nothing but a reliable warrior, it was unlike him to have just vanished without a trace. But by the murmurs of his clanmates it seems like they thought otherwise. He shrunk further into himself as one of the elders loudly proclaimed something slanderous about Lynxtooth from behind him.

indentHemlockstar cleared his throat his eerie green eyes glaring disapprovingly at the crowd quieting them once more.

indent“Moving along, we have our Medicine cat, Molewhisper who would like to announce something,” Hemlockstar announced.

indentWhispers broke out immediately as the clan's medic joined their leader on the Listening Stump - something that only happened when Starclan was involved. All noise quickly quieted down when Hemlockstar gave one dismissive wave of his tail allowing Molewhisper to step forward,

indent “The westernly lands of plague and war will spread forth and destroy all unless the chosen of the wilds can unite the five.”

indentMolewhisper retreated and Hemlockstar stepped in finishing the rest of the meeting but Cloudheart could no longer hear over the blood rushing in his ears. All around him his clanmates were chatting excitedly amongst themselves trying to discern who the 'chosen of the wilds' was.

indent “Cloudheart,” Bluetail mewed, trying to get her foster brother's attention by poking him in the side with her claw. “Who do you think it is?”

indentCloudheart visibly flinched breaking out of his trance. “I-I uh, I have no idea,” He lied, trying to look over her lithe frame to find the brown striped pelt of Molewhisper.

indent“I'm really sorry Bluetail but I have to go and talk with Molewhisper! Y'know prophecy deciphering business and all that,” He chuckled nervously, looking for the quickest way to break from the crowd and get to the medicine cat den.

indent“But I thought Molewhisper and Hemlockstar said they already had the prophecy deciphered and were just waiting on the . . . chosen one,” Bluetail called after him, the end of her sentence trailing off as she watched her foster brother briskly pushing through the crowd and rushing towards the direction of his den. The bundle of catmint was left forgotten in the dirt beside her tail.

indent“Ah, the chosen of the wilds, finally here to join us,” The mellifluous voice of Hemlockstar greeted him as he burst through the den. Cloudheart stopped short not expecting the two toms to be waiting for him let alone know the true reason he was there.

indentHe shot a confused look towards Molewhisper prompting him into an explanation, “I received this prophecy shortly after you were brought into this clan.”

indentCloudheart's eyes widened at the thought of His mentor carrying such a burden with him for so long. His own dreams hadn't even been happening for that long, the dreams only starting a few months into his training, and the contents of them took a toll of him, being unsure if they truly were visions or just an odd reoccurring dream. To think that Molewhisper knew about this prophecy since he was a kit-

indent“It did not take me long to figure out you were the cat of the prophecy and so I took you on as my apprentice to help prepare you for your destiny.” Molewhisper continued, “It has of course been many moons since then. If I am correct in my assumptions your dreams have become more frequent?”

indentCloudheart nodded hesitantly in affirmation, surprised that his mentor knew about his dreams. He never told anyone about them, and if asked about his nightly troubles he brushed them off as simple nightmares.

indentMolewhisper let out a pleased rumble, “I have conferred with both Hemlockstar and Starclan on this matter and it is my belief that you are ready to receive your 9 lives and begin your journey west.”

indentA startled gasp came from the entrance of the medicine cat den and all three toms turned towards it in unison. The small shadow hesitantly moved deeper into the healing sanctuary letting light flood back in and revealing who had intruded upon the meeting.

indent "B-bluetail!" Cloudheart choked out, hanging his head bashfully as he remembered his ungracious exit in the hurry to escape. He was about to ask what she was doing there when Molewhisper moved towards the young molly brushing her tail gently aside with his own and grasping the packet sitting between her white-mitted paws.

indent"This must be the catmint Cloudheart went out to gather?" Molewhisper asked, nodding to the cool dark corner that he stored it in.

indentThat broke Bluetail out of her stiff stance and she jumped up, "Yes! He forgot it when he left in a hurry to come here." Her head suddenly snapped to the side and fixed the tom in question with a fierce look, "You're the chosen one? And you didn't even tell me!?" She accused hurt leaking into her voice.

indentCloudheart shrunk further into himself stuttering out a few "sorry's" that became quieter and quieter as his face was engulfed in his thick chest fur.

indent"Were you even going to tell me yourself before you ran off on your own chasing some mission from starclan where you could get yourself hurt- or worse, killed!?"

indentCloudheart's head snapped back up, "Of course, I was going to tell you! I-I just needed some time to myself to think."

indent"What's there to think about? " A deep voice from the entrance called out. With a sense of deja vu all eyes turned towards the newcomer. Darkfoot emerged and Bluetail let out a squeal and bounded towards her littermate, chattering rapidly about the situation with him.

indentThe black tabby gently guided his younger sister off of him with his tail and fixed Cloudheart with an unwavering stare. "There is no reason to linger in thought about this, Starclan has given a mission to you, and you will do it, or else you bring doom to us all," He growled, "I think you should leave straight away, sentimentality and goodbyes are unimportant when destruction looms over us all."

indentBluetail let out a mewl of disapproval. Cloudheart looked aside a scowl forming on his face.
He never got along well with Darkfoot, and jealousy played a large role in it. He never understood how Darkfoot could be so pious and devout to starclan, seemingly more so than Cloudheart himself. His unwavering belief in Starclan, among many other things, was something Cloudheart envied. To have full belief in Starclan and stoic acceptance of what they said whether good or bad, even if it went against all forms of logic. To do what they said at a moments notice and without complaint even if it meant abandoning all that you knew. For not the first time Cloudheart wondered if Darkfoot would do better in his place. It was clear he was a far better and more deserving apprentice than him under Lynxtooth's wing. Would he be a better medicine cat apprentice than him? Cloudheart knew a fair bit about healing but Darkfoot was far more devout, a strong connection and belief in starclan was important in a medicine cat whos job was to not only heal the clan but help them spiritually as well.

indent"A fine idea!" Hemlockstar announced reminding those there of his presence after fading into the background. Cloudheart was momentarily confused as to what he was referring to before he recalled Darkfoots words.

indent "I was just pondering on who to form as a small team to escort Cloudheart to the moonpool and then to the far outskirts of our territory. It appears I have the perfect pair right in front of me." Bluetail and Darkfoot glanced towards one another and then puffed up proudly at being given the task.

indentHemlockstar nodded to himself, pleased. "You shall leave tomorrow at sunhigh to make it in time for the moon to pass over the moonstone."

indentIt took a few minutes of lying completely still in the ditch fully expecting his soul to leave his body and join Starclan that Cloudstar realized that he was in fact, not dead and if he had died from the monster then he would've came back using one of his 9 lives. Feeling a bit sheepish he rolled onto his feet giving a few licks to his white but dirt stained chest, flicking his tail experimentally and coming to find that it was still intact and undamaged. Bluetail has been so excited for him when she found out and if he went ahead and died before his quest even began she'd hunt him down. He didn't even want to think about what Darkfoot would've thought.

indentLooking around at his surroundings he was filled with a sense of familiarity and belonging. He had made it, he was finally where he needed to be.
While the geography looked exactly like they had in his dreams he had been expecting something a bit more different with some of the things he saw in his visions and Molewhisper's description of the lands being that of 'plague and war.' Maybe it was his naivety with the world at large but he had been expecting to be greeted by piles of bodies and hundreds of battles waging around him. Instead he had a thunderpath to his back, a looming metal forest to his right, wide open plains with sparse vegetation in front of him, and not far off to his left a place that smelled strongly of crow-food. It wasn't the most pleasant place when compared to the forests of Cypressclan but it seemed to be more at peace than it did in his dreams which was a good thing.

indentHesitantly, he trekked onward towards the south where he could smell the sweetness of sap. On his way he kept expecting to be stopped by the factions that inhabited the area or stumble upon a raging battle but he managed to safely cross over the large river that separated the south from the north and make it to the edge of a pine forest. While it wasn't the cypress trees that stood abundantly in the forest back home the pines were similar enough that it made Cloudstar at ease. He picked out a small alcove carved into the rocky incline that would make a good den before setting out to patrolling the area to make sure it was safe enough to make as a camp for his future clan.
