Vulture stared at the corpse that lay before her; another goddess gone. 3 small, newborn kits wriggled by her belly in hopes of finding something, whether it be warmth or milk, it didn’t really matter. Vulture felt a raging fire burn as she turned to the Palatine; her father. “How could you let this happen? We have lost yet another goddess because of your twisted sense of strength. The shaman could have saved her.”

“Silence; know your place, Regent.” the palatine growled. “She was not strong enough; the weak are weeded our. The kits; kill them.”

“You monster, we’ll have no seekers at this rate. The clan will die out.”

“If you’re so concerned for them, then you care for them. You will be stripped of your position and instead be placed as a goddess.”

Vulture grit her teeth. “I will do as you ask. I will take them to the plains, then kill them there.”

Vulture carried the three kits one by one to the dead fields. The yellowed grass and dusty soil gave the feeling that none could survive here; that’s why this place was perfect. The three kits cried for their mother, a mother that would never return to this earth. “I cannot care for you there, but I will do my best to care for you here.”

Vulture was never the caring type; she hated kits. She never wanted them, and she didn’t plan on caring so much for a litter, but with the dwindling numbers of the tribe, as well as the cruel ways of the Palatine, she couldn’t help it. This was the best thing for her tribe. “You three; I will do my best. I suppose I should name you.”

The kits simply cried out, although Vulture didn’t seem to mind. “Shriek, Growl, and Whisper.” She murmured. Two lighter she cats, and a darker tom. Her new kits.
