Anuket is kind at heart, and though she can sometimes be a bit rude, its for the most part un-intentional. she can be lazy, and prefers time spent indoors, where a couch is always nearby. napping is definitely a hobby of hers. her friends describe her as funny, though she considers herself quick-witted; always ready with a comeback or a silly pun. clumsiness is constant, and she often times avoids embarrassment by cracking a joke to cover it. it has gotten in the way quite a lot, but she's learning to deal with it. she wasn't always confident, but she's built on slowly. it took her a while to learn that she can't impress everybody, but if she's confident and comfortable with who she is, the people she does impress, will be all the more worth it in the end. there are many aspects of her personality she is still exploring, but growth is natural, and she's not scared of it. who knows what the future will bring?

It was just meant to be a hike. A simple trip to the local woods with a friend. It was never meant to turn into something bigger.
Anuket had woken up on time; for once. It was unusual for her to be awake so early, but she knew it would be worth it. She had to admit that she was excited, not that she would ever tell Arwood that. They had been planning a hike for literal weeks, and she had done so much complaining, she was surprised they had managed to settle on a date at all. But the day had finally arrived, and she got ready as quickly as she could. Heading out the door, she raced down the street. She was a little bit late, but she Arwood would be too. He had promised to pack supplies, so all she had with her was herself. It was enough, she hoped. A hike in the woods. Sounds amazing, right? Wrong. Nature, trees, birds. It just all felt too, well, too much. It would be dirty, muddy, and outdoors. She was used to seeing trees on her screen, but in real life? Not so often. She arrived at the gate at 8:40, and let out a breath as she spotted her friend, sitting on one of the many benches scattered throughout the park.
'Arwood!' She called out, watching as his head shot up. There was a grin on his face as she raced through the gates, heading straight for him. Barrelling into him, she wrapped her paws around him in a hug, and he returned the gesture. When she pulled away, she was still smiling, as was he, and she took a deep breath. It was so rare that they got to meet up for any extended periods of time, so even though the idea of a hike didn't excite her, getting to hang out with her friend without having to worry about saying goodbye within the hour was a nice change. 'You ready?' He nodded eagerly, and without another word, the two of them headed off. Of course, the conversation started up again as soon as they had made it to the tree line, and it didn't stop the further into the forest they got. If it had, maybe they would have noticed themselves leaving the trail behind them.
They had been walking for nearly an hour before Anuket spotted Arwood slowing down. He seemed worried about something, and as he turned around in a circle, she realised exactly what had stopped their walk. The trail that they had been following seemed to have vanished, replaced by un-cut undergrowth, and a flowing river. A frown settled onto her features, and she turned to Arwood, sharing a mutual doubtful look. How had they not noticed the change in environment? Arwood kept looking, will Anuket took a different angle, taking in a few deep breaths in the hopes of catching the scent of food coming from the park, but any scents that may have been there were blocked by the smells of nature that surrounded them. It couldn't have been more than fifteen minutes, but if they were that close, she would've smelt something. She could hear Arwood breath in, before exhaling sharply. She looked to him as he turned to her.
'We're not lost, right?' He asked, but she didn't have an answer. He seemed to take her silence as an answer instead. She swallowed the lump in her throat, her shoulders slumped. She had never, under any circumstances, expected to find herself lost in the forest. She had assumed Arwood had visited the forest often, but it was becoming more apparent that he hadn't visited as often as she had presumed. Arwood shook his head, and turned away from her. She followed his gaze back through the trees. 'We should try and find it again, then.' She nodded in agreement, following after him as he trekked back the way she assumed they had come from. Oh boy were they wrong.
The rushing sound of water, cascading over the edge of the cliff was the first sign that they were nearing a waterfall. Beside them, the river gurgled enthusiastically, as if excited to be nearing the large drop. The once slow flow of the water was picking up its pace, crashing against the banks only to slide back down again. Their paws were soaked, each new splash catching them as they attempted to move from its path.
'Should we turn back?' Anuket glanced over to Arwood as he spoke, a small frown set on her face. For all she knew, they were going in the completely wrong direction. The path was nowhere to be seen, and no matter how many times she wished it to reappear, it never did. She could see him looking around as she tried to form an answer. If they got even more lost, that would be on her. Sighing, she shook her head, deciding quickly that if they kept going, they might have a better vantage point for seeing the entrance to the forest; keyword MIGHT.
'No,' Her words caught in her throat as she watched Arwood's shoulders drop, a look of concern flashing in his eyes. He was scared, but so was she. Clearing her throat, she continued, 'I think we should just keep going to the waterfall, okay? Once we get there, we should be able to see a bit more of the landscape, right?' Uncertainty laced her words, and she hoped that he wouldn't notice. Waiting for his response, she was glad when he nodded, and she let out a breath she didn't even realise she was holding. Glancing back to him as his shoulder gently bumped hers, she caught sight of a soft smile on his face, and she could only look away. He had hope, so why couldn't she?
The air got colder the closer to the edge of the cliff they got, and Anuket felt anything but relaxed. Her head was spinning, and she could feel her heart racing in her chest, beating roughly against her ribs in an attempt to break free. She was regretted agreeing to the hike. That is, until she saw the waterfall.
Her jaw practically dropped as she took in the beauty before her. Streams of light bounced off the water as it cascaded rapidly over the edge, crashing into the self-created pool below. She didn't notice Arwood looking at her as she stood, entranced by the natural formation before her eyes. For someone who didn't pride themselves on their love of nature, she couldn't get over how stunning it looked. It was soft, and strong, and dazzling, all at the same time. Her regret had turned to gratefulness. She would never have seen the waterfall had it not been for Arwood's insistence to get her out into the wild for a few hours. She had never appreciated determination more. Taking a step forward, Anuket tried to get a bit closer to the edge, to get a better look. That's all she wanted, a better look. And a better look she would get.
'Careful,' Arwood chuckled softly, and she turned to look at him, her smile lingering as she rolled her eyes. He turned away from her, and she gingerly took another step forward. That, was a big mistake.
'I'm caref- Ahh!' Her sentence was cut of as she felt the ground beneath her disappear from under her paws, and she didn't have a chance to grab a hold of anything before her body was thrown from the cliff edge. Her stomach flipped as she plummeted down, her scream caught in her throat. All of the air was sucked out of her lungs, and all she could do was try not to pass out. Roller-coasters weren't her thing, so falling from a high place? Not something she was used to. Not in the slightest. It only took seconds before her body hit the water, and with that, everything went dark.
Coughing and spluttering, she blinked her eyes open, trying to fill the space in her lungs with oxygen. At least, any of the space not filled with water. Beside her, she could see Arwood collapsing to the ground, obviously exhausted. She owed her life to him, and she wasn't going to forget that quickly. Taking deep breaths in and out, she rested her head against the shore, the sandy texture more of a comfort than the water that lapped at her tail. She was okay. He was okay. They were okay. Arwood rolled onto his side, and she turned her to face him. His half-smile was enough to get her trying to return the gesture, though she was still spluttering, water dripping from her lips. Rolling back to her back, she closed her eyes. The light disappeared from beyond her eyelids, and within mere minutes, she had fallen asleep. Her body needed it, though, so she wasn't one to complain.
It felt like seconds later that Arwood was nudging her awake. Going by the look on his face, it seemed urgent. She pushed herself from the ground, blinking sleep out of her eyes. She stretched her arms and legs out as she followed after him, yawning as her body adjusted to being awake. Everything was darker than it had been when she had fallen, and though the darkness brought comfort, it also brought danger. Nature was nice, during the day. But at night? Not as much. Her gaze settled on a patch of darkness before them, and she quickly realised that that was what Arwood's attention was on. Together, they made a b-line for it, and when they reached the mouth of the cave - as she learned it was - they stopped. Taking a deep breath, she followed Arwood inside. If they couldn't make it home during the day, what hope did they have at night? The cave might offer refuge, and shelter until the morning, and then, they would have to figure something else out.
'It's kind of dark in here.' The sound of Arwood's laughter reached her ears, she she smiled slightly. Laughter was good. Taking a few more steps inside the cave, she tried to avoid crashing into him, though to no avail as he appeared to have stopped directly in the middle of the entrance. She let her eyes adjust to the light difference, before she focused her attention on him. He seemed to be getting something out of his bag, and it took her until it was lit to realised what it was; a flare. He had maybe come more prepared than she had anticipated, but that wasn't a bad thing. It only took him four attempts before they cave erupted into light. A red glow spread around, but that wasn't the main focus. Rock formations, big and small, surrounded them, and around them, between the walls and ceilings, were enough paintings to fill a gallery. The different styles all told different stories, and both Anuket and Arwood remained in stunned silence. Each piece was filled with passion, with love, and with talent. It was breathtaking.
'Wow,' Arwood breath, and Anuket was just as amazed, 'This is incredible.' Anuket agreed wholeheartedly, though she her body was protesting the movement of just, well, being awake. She glanced at Arwood, and could see he was in the same boat. It had been a long day.
'Come on,' Arwood smiled softly, walking over to her, and nudging her gently, 'Let's get some sleep.'
Anuket woke the next morning to the sounds of voices outside the cave. They were partially masked by the waterfall, but they were still audible. Moving away from Arwood, she pulled herself to her paws, heading outside to see what was going on. She had to blink a few times to adjust to the brightness, but once she had, she spotted two viscets, looking around with worried expression printed across their features. As soon as they caught sight of her, they rushed to the edge of the water, were she jogged over to meet them. She had never seen them before, but they looked relieved to see her.
'We're so glad we found you,' One of them breathed out, and Anuket raised an eyebrow. The other viscet was quick to explain.
'We saw you fall, and called for help. You disappeared before we could get down, but we found you.' Anuket let out a breath of relief. Someone had seen them, and someone had come to help them. It felt good. She smiled softly, turning as she noticed Arwood's presence behind her.
'They're here to help us find the gate,' She laughed, and the relief was apparent in her tone. Arwood laughed too, the noise finally sounding natural. It had been less than twenty four hours, and yet, it had been one of the best adventures she'd experienced yet. But was she ready to go home? Heck yes.
