maximus sat there in silence, eyes glued on the floor beneath him. he had nothing to say. he hadn't remembered any of that, and he honestly felt terrible about it all. well, mostly.
"well? what do you have to say?"
maximus looked to the demon that was previously speaking, watching the entity laugh in amusement.
"i don't have anything to say. i don't remember any of it. all i remember is the punishments, which i wasn't aware had really any cause for."
the demon scoffed as he shifted in his chair, grunting as he put his forearms on the table in front of him. "well, after scarring you from all of that, i do have some good news, fortunately enough for you."
maximus looked to the demon, eyebrows furrowing. "and what would that be?"
a wicked smile came to the red man's face, interlocking his fingers. "you've been doing such a good job with the tasks we've given you that lucifer has decided that you can go back to earth."
a look of astonishment came over maximus's face, and he almost stood from his chair in excitement. he was honestly getting real sick and tired of the heat, the non-stop jobs, and torturing others. which was his newest job he had gotten, by the way, and he was already sick of it.
"really?" he breathed.
"under one condition," the demon moved back in his chair before grabbing a file, opening it up and turning it towards maximus. with his long fingernail, he pointed at two individuals. maximus followed his finger, studying the pictures of two women. "you must kill these two. boreas and sekhmet. they're goddesses, and they're getting too powerful. lucifer fears what they might do next, because apparently they have plans to come to the underworld." the demon leaned back in his chair, raising his eyebrows at maximus. "and since you're big and strong, and you're a sick little snake, he's trusting you with it," he laughed afterwards, leaning forward quickly and slamming his hand against the desk, making maximus jump.
"and if you do that, he'll grant you immortality. you won't ever have to worry about not committing your previous sins because it simply wouldn't matter then!" the wicked smile returned, and maximus felt nervousness beginning to rise in his chest. he didn't know how powerful these two were, and he had no powers, so how was he suppose to do anything against them?
"if i fail?" maximus asked, voice quiet.
the demon crossed his arms, "you come back down here. you'll have a punishment, which i can't disclose to you, and then someone else will be assigned to it."
well... it was worth a shot, right?
swallowing, maximus slowly nodded.
"alright. i'll do it."
