[I] name

"So, you've named yourself after a human tragedy?
Why would you do such a thing to yourself?"

Othello has been assumed to be a possible diminutive of the name Otho, which is a name of a short-lived Roman emperor, while the name Othello is primarily known for being used in the Shakespeare play of the same name. In this play, the character of Othello was a general that was manipulated by one who he assumed to be his friend, leading to the death of his wife as well as himself in the end. The character of Othello was a kind man often looked down by the rest of society due to his appearance and race, not by who he was or how he could assist those in need. Othello in the play was naive and full of trust, respect, and love towards his supposed friends as well as his wife.

The Othello in our story, however, gave himself this name after being shunned by his former group of friends who lived among the stars. They had claimed that Othello had turned cruel, that he had changed, and that them leaving him alone would be the best for everyone. Othello knew what they had meant, and was hurt that they had believed such a thing about him, assuming that they only were friends with him for his appearance and his assistance. They had left him in his most unfortunate moment when he needed help, and for his friends to return the favors he always tried to share with them. When asked this, however, his friends simply stated that Othello had turned greedy and that they should leave so he can better see how he is not to ask for anything in life, even in his darkest hour.

Nobody can hear this name, except for him. Nobody dares listen to his words, and nobody wishes to be near his voice. The land he protects is only populated by the wild canines and precious stones. A wolf cannot say your name and tell you that all is going to be well in the end, and a diamond cannot claim to know how it feels like to be abandoned and alone, and it cannot say your name in pity. The only thing left is the echo of his name as he speaks to himself, hoping that one day he will hear his name back to him, and he will recognize it as someone wishing to see him.

[ II ] purpose

Postby bakuraas. » Sun Apr 29, 2018 12:05 pm

"You protect a planet covered in diamonds and wolves.
What kind of satisfaction does such a small thing bring?"

Othello's Purpose is to protect 55 Cancri-e and the Snowoltors which live there.

55 Cancri-e is twice the size of planet Earth, going around its star center a large amount faster than the earth most know. It has a surface temperature of nearly 4,900 degrees Fahrenheit, though it somehow sustains life on its surface, as Othello has found out on his own. He himself has watched humans attempt to figure out about the planet, and has felt a bit humored by their results. For a while it was dubbed the "diamond planet" because scientists suggested that it was composed of diamonds and graphite, this was not wrong, but Othello watched as the 'theory' was 'proven wrong'. While that theory is not as popular today, the planet still remains an interesting object of study on earth due to its high density and its very close proximity to its parent star. Othello however, is more interested with the creatures and land that he protects, as while it is close to the sun and is said to be very warm in earth standards, it in fact is very cold to him and to the creatures living on the planet.

The creatures on the planet, called Snowoltors, or Snowols, are a species that is similar to earth wolves in stature, though their eyes are replaced with gemstones, commonly diamonds, but others can be seen as well. They are very impervious to the cold, except for their face areas, which have little to no protection to the cold and are often in the air to attract sunlight. Their tails, however, while standardly shaped, and often styled, are completely made of snow and slush held together by a glue-like bone connected to their spinal cord. They communicate through clicks, and nowadays, through a language created by Othello, called Snowtheli Cancrinish. The Snowols feed off their own kind and diamonds, diamonds being the main food source of their satiation. The snowols used to only follow eachother in packs of 2 or 3, but since Othello's influence, the groups have grown larger, up to 20 Snowols in size, all at peace with eachother. Othello's influence has both caused peace between the Snowols, much more than before, and has increased the Snowol population thanks to his care of the past population, and protection of the environment.

"What fun is there in being all alone?"

Othello's joys in life are simple in nature, and often simply found in nature as well. His likes in life are often found in his own surroundings. He had a particular affection towards the state of being he has as the guardian of the formerly poorly executed ecosystem of the planet of 55 Cancri-e, as well as keeping the planet in balance in it's own orbit. The cold winters of the Cancri-e landscape are quite welcoming to the space baby, enjoying how a planet considered so warm, downright burning, to an individual out of the solar system, can freeze and have snow fall upon it's landscape like a true winter wonderland. Over time, such can create a magnificent landscape of snow and ice, which Othello can't help but be in awe at.

Along with this, Othello is also quite adoring of the creatures of Cancri-e as well. The snowols are one of the creatures that Othello has learned to love the most out of all creatures he has ever laid his eyes on. The other creatures he has encountered in life are wonderful, and others he has cared for are also close to his heart, but the smaller insects and plant-like organisms he helped grow and bring to flourishing ecosystems never exactly had the same connection to him as the snowols did. He adores them all, but the love for the snowols, a species that he had brought out of possible extinction sometimes overrides his love to the other species who could have very well found their way on their own.

But one true experience he has had over him time of caring for the snowols truly brings him to smile brighter than any star. The Snowol puppies, which he nicknamed 'small yappers'. Such creatures, tiny Snowol with clear eyes and no tails quite yet, darling creatures that he knew needed to be protected and cared for in order to escape the innocent and defenseless stage of youth with their full health intact. Though nowadays, snowols have seemed to take the virtue of 'it takes a village' to raise the young, making Othello's interference not as needed as before. At first, the care of the puppies fell on Othello, and he was more than happy to assist. Caring for these creatures, and being in the silence and the calm, almost as if he had a family. That was one of Othello's main joys in life.

[ V ] dislikes

Postby bakuraas. » Sun Apr 29, 2018 12:18 pm

" There must be pain in such a bland life.
Please, explain how painful it truly is. "

Othello doesn't dislike much, sure he certainly has a scale of things he enjoys, but he wouldn't call something he slightly doesn't enjoy a ‘dislike’. He considers this word like the word of “hate”. He often just sees things that he dislikes as things he doesn't enjoy as much as other people do. For example, he doesn't particularly loud music, particularly because his home on Cancri-e is most often silent and if anything, only as loud as certain orchestral pieces over a small radio like device.

Many of his dislikes of sorts were based around the sort of opposite from his home. He doesn't exactly enjoy the warmth, it makes him feel scared and often makes him feel as it he is going to be injured, sometimes it even makes him pass out due to fear. His home is very cold, so the contrast is clear compared to a land where cold, freezing in some areas, in fact. Though following this, Othello also tends to feel unnerved and unhappy about creatures and plants from typically warm areas. Especially so for ones that increase pain.

Othello can't truly say he hates loud music, or warm weather, but he dislikes the feeling that such things cause him. Most things in this category could harm him, to the point of passing out, comatose, or something much more fatal. All these dislikes seem to follow the most extreme of his fears. Death. He fears death more than anything. And all of his dislikes follow the fear like a tail follows a snowol.

[ VI ] fears

Postby bakuraas. » Sun Apr 29, 2018 12:20 pm

"What makes you cower, boy?
What's your true fear in life?"

There is only one real thing that Othello fears, and all of his little small worries compile together in one large fear, one phobia that connected to him and never let him go, no matter how much he tries to hide it, no matter how much he tries to hide it. Thanatophobia, otherwise known as the fear of death, or ‘death anxiety’, is defined often as the anxiety caused by the thought of death. This is often confused with fear of the dead, or decaying objects, which is described as necrophobia. However, Thanatophobia is based around the fear of dying, specifically of the person with said phobia dying.

Othello never really felt affected by this phobia, and never felt he had it in the capacity that he did, that is, until he was abandoned by his former friends and left in his home in 55 Cancri-e. The planet itself is very barren, and it makes Othello not have much to think of to escape the thought that kept coming to his head. “What if I die here?” Such a thought has always brought him to the same conclusion; not feeling anything, not seeing anything, not smelling anything, and not being able to recognize if he was even in existence anymore. He would be cosmic dust, and he would mean nothing.

Because of this fear, he is scared, and therefor dislikes a lot of things that goes against the objects on his planet that he knows cannot kill him. He fears dying of a coma from passing out due to high temperatures, He fears dying from having his hearing taken away from loud noises, and then being caught in a dangerous place without knowing it. He fears dying from creatures he has no knowledge of. To simplify, he sees death as the only true thing to fear, and everything else he is afraid of are just because he fears death.

[ VII ] positives

" My boy, you're heavenly.
An angel from another world."

A very selfless creature, Othello often shows himself as someone who is happy to help others, or, well, at least he used to show himself in that way before it began to not matter anymore. Nowadays, he’s is still very happy to help others, even if those ‘others’ in the phrase is nothing more than the snowols he lives with. He acts very selflessly, saying how his time is better spent helping others and those around him instead of on his own actions and his own desires. He also tends to listen more than he speaks, even today. He likes talking to the snowols, sometimes claiming he can hear them speak to him in their own language that he created mostly as a humorous experiment. Besides that, his lack of speech isn’t quite as useful as it could be if he actually had someone to communicate with besides the snowols. Often times, Othello is perfectly happy with what he has, even if nowadays, it isn’t as much as before. Especially when he compares it to when he used to live in a location filled with gemstones and jewels used for spiritual purposes.

He doesn’t dwell on the past as much as some others tend to do, however, as he says that those who do such a thing have a lesser quality of life, and that he doesn’t want to have such a thing befall him. Though, internally, he wouldn’t lie to himself that sometimes he does look at the past, and feel a large amount of sadness over the losses he’s had over his life. He sometimes will hide his true emotions and his emotional state in general. While he hides his emotions, he makes a facade that will make himself look admirable and acceptable as a person in the universe. He also does this to make sure others do not worry about him or his personal issues.

He wishes to use his time wisely, and to not truly do something to waste time in his life. He does things like art, writing, and snowol care in his ‘free time’, even if this makes his free time turn into more time for work. This unfortunately makes social situations for him almost impossible. Othello finds loyalty to his new planet, and to the snowols that live there, much more important than taking his free time to rest, or perhaps to wander out of his planet and find his own life filled with his own friends.

[ VIII ] negatives

Postby bakuraas. » Sun Apr 29, 2018 12:23 pm

"But you're something else, something darker.
You can't hide from that, boy."

While normally kind, often selfless, and extremely kind towards others, especially animals, even Othello has his darker side to him, though it’s not exactly a dark side, just something he can’t control quite well. Pride always is the sin that brings other sins towards it, and while Othello tries to be humble and calm, he always thinks that he is a cut above the rest, that he is somehow better than those who refuse to help others. And this pride, this sense of being better and deserving more, that is how the true sin Othello suffers from attaches to him. Greed. The feeling that everything in his world belongs to him, and only wanting more.

As a result of this, Othello would sometimes become enraged when unable to take out his emotions, and rant about how he deserves so much and gets so little. How other Space babies have so much to do with their lives, friends, planets, hobbies, while all Othello has is a single planet covered in snow and snowol. He is envious as well as greedy, and tries to bottle these feelings up in a way that makes them explode, often times being worse all at once than over a longer time.

The key moment that the Snowols discovered that their life could very well be in danger if they are near such an angry Othello was when Othello had taken one of their own kind and used them for his own benefit. He claimed it was for the better, only to have the snowol taxidermied and colored to look a certain way, and displayed outside his home. Such an intense action caused by greed, wanting more and more, is part of what makes Othello anything but angelic.
